Brilliant location, atmospheric old style boutique hotel, very cozy and relaxing place

Some room features need updating, but add to the charm

York House has excellent facilities with a lovely patio and also separate reception rooms. There are two styles of bedroom: the original converted convent rooms which are decorated with period furniture and more recently renovated modern rooms. We had the former which was spacious, quiet and clean ... the bathroom was a little oldfashioned and also the cupboard but the beds were very comfortable and overall we were very happy. Delicious and plentiful breakfast with everything you could wish for! Unfortunately the restaurant was closed otherwise we would have eaten in on several occasions. Great transport right on the doorstep and several good restaurants within a few minutes walk.

Bathroom needed updating and the shelving in the bedroom also. There are a lot of steps from the street up to the main reception area which can be a challenge if you are older or have very heavy bags!

Very atmospheric premises with beautiful courtyard, both peaceful and quiet. Attentive and helpful staff. Very comfortable beautiful large bedroom and well presented and stocked buffet breakfast.

The bedroom was quite difficult to heat, but we were staying towards the end if November.

We paid extra for a more spacious room. Like the rest of the property, the decor was wonderful, the floorboards were very squeaky which might put some off (not us). The shower was powerful. Breakfast on the terrace was very enjoyable. Beautiful walkway up to the building (not many steps but would suggest elsewhere if you have mobility issues) and a nice touch to have staff wait with us at the bottom when leaving to ensure the taxi turned up

Nothing to dislike, though the foyer at the bottom could benefit from a sign proposing guests phone reception using the phone there to get support with luggage (I walked up without luggage at first to assess the step situation for a friend who is less mobile, and they immediately sent someone to collect the luggage)

The York Hotel is on the border of a more residential area of Lisbon, which we liked. We had excellent sleeps with no noise. The bed was very comfortable, and the junior suite was very roomy. I can not speak to the regular size rooms. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The Continental breakfast was served from 07:00 to 11:00 every morning with adequate options. The courtyard is a lovely place to sit and relax with a glass of wine in the afternoon or evening before heading out for dinner. You can have your own bottle or there is a staff member for serving. It is a short walk, relative term, to the city center, which we did every day, approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Dinner is not served at the hotel, but there is an order in menu, if a person wishes to do that, but with the copious amount of very good restaurants within walking distance why would you do that. It is a hotel more like a country inn, so if you want a 5 star posh hotel, this is not your place. Also, note that there is a significant set of stairs from the street to the hotel. If a person has some physical disabilities they would pose an issue. A staff member carried our bags up to the room, which was very nice. When I'm back in Lisbon again, this place will be high on my list.

The bathroom, though clean and roomy, could use an updated shower. I know Europe in general does not use screens on the windows. However, with the small lizards present in the outside screens, it would be nice so we could leave some windows open occasionally without having an unwanted visitor. :)

Beautiful traditional hotel - rustic and authentic Portuguese building, lovingly converted into a hotel with lots of original features. The courtyard is beautiful and a delight to have breakfast in. We found our room surprisingly quiet - beds extremely comfortable, rooms light and airey. Location was excellent - some local bars a short walk away and good transportation connections and easily walkable.

Bathrooms were gorgeously decorated but our bath had a large crack in it and must have been leaking water into another part of the building. We also found a used bar of soap left in the bathroom but these are small things, that didn’t really impact our stay and would still return in a heartbeat.

The bed was super comfortable! The best on our trip around Portugal. Staff were good. Room was nice and a good size and a good location for where we needed to be. I have given 8 but this would be high 8. I would go back again. Point to note, but this has been the same for our whole time in Portugal, everywhere we stayed there are lots of stairs. There is someone to help if needed, at York house.

We could hear the people above us ( only for a short time, when they came in a night and got up in the morning) they were a bit heavy footed. Husband is a light sleeper, I'm not.

characterful in a great area with local atmosphere free from global chains and brands, and walking distance from the centre, the river and lots of family owned cafes and restaurants. I have stayed here before - first time more than 30 years ago - and have loved staying here every time.

Not a criticism - but to note - the hotel is a little bit “lived in” with obvious repairs and marks - but nothing that bothered me. everything was clean and fresh, but don’t expect modern and pristine. it’s a very old former convent, so with the character you get patina. But hey - first world problems! I would definitely return without hesitation.

The property is lovely, with a calm peaceful vibe to it. A walk up the stairs to the inner courtyard, which is delightful after a long day. The room was fabulous, large with an enormous bathroom. The hotel has a very elegant old European charm, while being very modern. The pastais de nata in the lounge were a special treat and the breakfast was great.

Waiting for our room to be ready. We couldn’t access it until an hour after check in. They may have had a staff shortage though. Charging 5 euros for a tea that was free during breakfast was excessive.

The location was out-of-the-way, but in a interesting neighborhood with a lot of restaurants. The Hotel was unique with a lot of charming character. Great old furniture and cozy nooks. So fun! We loved it!

The shower water pressure was good but the bottom of the shower/tub was cracked. When we arrived the bottom of tub was filled with little dead insects. We asked the front desk to clean it while we out but they didn’t. Maybe they didn’t understand. At 15 euros breakfast was too expensive but the French Breakfast tea was delicious.
