The staff were excellent; so friendly and helpful. The location is across the road and about 100m from the train station. Staying in Chinatown means access to that neighbourhood for great food and fun vibe. Sure, the rooms are a bit small, but hey, look at how reasonably priced the hotel is. Today when we left after our four night stay we kept our luggage there all day and came back around 6pm for a shower before heading to the airport. In the room there is a complimentary bottle of wine awaiting you AND the bar fridge gets replenished each day free of charge. This place! It’s fantastic value for money. The folks who complain about things might not have done much travel.

Honestly there isn’t much to complain about. This isn’t a five star hotel. It is a small boutique hotel very, very reasonably priced for a dynamic city like Singapore.

What a great hotel! We liked everything and enjoyed our stay very much. The rooms were lovely and the beds very comfortable. The location close to everything: Hawker centre, underground, busses, tourists attractions and lovely restaurants and cafes. We liked having a nightcap at the rooftop bar on the fourth floor of the hotel to unwind after a long day of exploring - Singapore Sling, of course. And the staff was amazing: Always very friendly and helpful, going out of their way to make your stay as nice as possible! They helped booking busses, finding ways, calling grabs and so much more. As our flight was leaving round midnight they watched over our luggage and we could even have a shower before leaving. Thank you so much Hafiz, Puri, Samantha and the other lovely people whose names I cannot remember :) We will stay with you next time we come, and so will our friends and families.

Location is excellent, away from the tourist milieu and very close to MRT. Located in Chinatown is a way better option than one of the mainstream hotels in shopping alley (Orchard Rd) - unless you are a shopaholic. I liked the idea of the hotel being in remodelled shophouses - this added to the quirkyness of the interior layout. The mini bar provided soft drinks and a couple of beers each day (without charge) and the rooms were small but comfortable with a bit of an 'olde world Singapore' look and feel to them. Staff were very friendly and helpful. If you like Hawker Centre food, the Maxwell centre is 5 mins away and Chinatown proper only another 5 mins away. We were there for five nights and being Durian fruit lovers were able to end the day with a different type of durian fruit feast each evening prior to our return to the hotel. Overall, different but better than a stay in the mainstream tourist hotels... We would stay here again.

Our initial room (310) was located next to the main airconditioning units for the hotel. These were very noisy and we relocated rooms after one night. Avoid rooms 309 and 310 unless you like external air conditioner unit noise !

The hotel provided free small extras like a mini bar which was restocked daily. Very helpful staff with information and maps. Very clean, good sized room with balcony Great location in Chinatown with dozens of bars, cafes and restaurants within 10 minutes walk

The only complaint was that a lot of building work was going on across the street. Very noisy during the daytime. However, I fully accept that this is beyond the hotels control

Great location, very close to Maxwell station, easy walk to Clarke Quay, interesting area. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Beds were very comfy and everything in the fridge was complimentary.

There was no outlook from the room - we actually seemed to be below street level with just a high window letting in light, although we were only staying overnight, so it was not an issue for such a short stay. The door between the bedroom and ensuite was frosted glass and the position of the toilet meant it and the person using it were visible… I thought that was a bit awkward for everyone!!

I stay there since many years when in Singapore and I love the location in Chinatown. It is beautiful from outside and staff is very friendly and supportive.

It was not as clean as it was before. The carpet at the first floor after the stairs was not cleaned over my four days there. It remained dirty over the whole stay the same way. And the hotel was more tastefully coloured years ago. The red painted corridor is beyond a good taste. More of a red light district place. My room was small but nice and as I expected it to be. A cave in a very positive way. Overall the place could be much nicer with a more tasteful decoration and painting.

We arrived 2 hrs late (after 1 am) because of a late flight departure. We arrived at the smiling face of Puvan Arjunan (one of the property managers). We had booked a mid-level room and were pleasantly surprised to upgraded to a suit for the 5 nights. Lots of room, a nice big balcony. There was a complimentary minibar (beer, water sodas, etc.). We drank both bottles of Avian water one day and returned to 2 cold ones in the fridge and six more on the counter. The rooms and property were spotlessly clean, and the housekeeping staff were fast and excellent. The hotel is quaint in not a cookie cutter modern cement box. It is in a well-preserved, updated old-school 2-story building right on the edge of the China Town district. It is 100 m to the metro, and 100 m to the Maxwell food hall. The location is fantastic but on a quiet street. Ayub Shakirah helped deal with any issues we had during our stay. Thank You! This is our 3rd or 4th stay and we will continue to stay as long as this little gem is there

Giving a good review may mean it fills up to much for my next stay

The location was an excellent platform for walking into the city around China Town and Marina Sands Bay. The hotel we think was undergoing some refurbishment which had little effect on our stay. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The complimentary one off bottle of wine and the daily free restock of the mini bar was a very welcome feature of the hotel. The decor of the hotel was very bohemian and I guess a history lesson lies there somewhere 😊 One would never starve in Singapore as food availabilty was everywhere and perhaps this explains why there were no restaurant facilities in the hotel itself. Literally on your doorstep. If a swimming pool and all the modern trappings of bling is not on your list of must haves, then this little oasis is for you. And walking to Mount Faber is do able at 2.5 miles even in 31°c humidity !! Would definately stay here again. Thank you Scarlet ❤

Having to leave .

Phenomenal location - ½ block from the Maxwell MRT (metro) and a block from one of Singapore's most famous hawker markets (Maxwell). Located in Chinatown and a block from Singapore's most famous Buddhist temple (Buddha Tooth) and 3 blocks from the most famous Hindu temple (Sri Mariammam). Also a 6 min walk from the Chinatown MRT and a 15 min walk from the nation's overwhelmingly and largest hawker market Lau Po Sat (the "satay market" opens after 7pm and stalls 7 & 8 seem to grab all the attention - expect a 20 min or so wait for food). The Scarlet is a classic boutique hotel. It's quiet and rooms are beautifully decorated in vibrant colors. I had thought I wanted a sitting balcony when I arrived, but kind manager showed me several types of rooms and with the Singaporean permanent-heat and humidity, you don't need a balcony. I got a premium room (which I didn't book initially because some come without windows and only a skylight - they can't promise a room with windows) which was spacious and beautiful for my needs. The hotel is undergoing several renovations: the restaurant is closed but just go to Ya Kun on the corner for classic Singaporean soft eggs, kaya toast and soft boiled eggs. Also the jacuzzi is out of order and it appears they will be removing it. The rooms oddly don't have USB plugs, so bring your own. The staff could not be kinder - they're wonderful. But this isn't the place that will reliably recommend restaurants, museums/galleries to visit and so forth The National Gallery is a wonder over by City Hall - best collection of modern Singaporean and Asian art in the world in an incredible structure - go). The hawker markets are great and as it's Singapore, everything is clean and the tap room is totally drinkable.

No USB plugs but into the rooms. Coming soon I'm told as they upgrade their tech.
