The Host was well organized. Everything we needed was provided for us. We stayed at the cottage during the time of widespread electricity loadshedding in SA. However, the Host provided us with the daily schedule, so we knew when power was out which helped in planning our day. We appreciated this very much. The Host was very helpful in organizing transportation such as Uber drivers for us which was a bonus and unexpected. This made our stay there very easy and enjoyable. The Host was also very attentive and accommodating to our needs during our 2 weeks stay at the cottage. She went out of her way to make our stay there very pleasant. We felt very much at home the entire time we were there. The grounds are well manicured, beautiful and serene. By the way, you can also do bird watching in the beautiful grounds of the cottage which was totally unexpected!!

There was nothing we didn't like about the cottage or the Host. The cottage was clean and the beddings which my husband and I are very particular about when we travel were clean and fresh all the time. It was a very good experience for us being at the Cottage the entire 2 weeks.

I enjoyed the reception, the support and without forgetting the lovely big sis Lulu ( Dog ), she was so caring checking on me every morning.

Issue of electricity, the property advised to have at least gas cooker/ stoves to save during loadshedding.

There was nothing we didn't like.

Edith was our host and was simply wonderful and accommodating. She managed to arrange for my mum to also stay (at an additional cost). She warmly welcomed my family and I and always had our best interests at heart at all times. She personally met us and offered us juice on our arrival. We felt very welcomed and at home. Her staff Rejoice and Oscar are also extremely helpful and obliged us with any requests we had. We thought we would have a braai on the property and Edith immediately arranged for a braai stand with extra seating for my other family members that were staying nearby in the area. The property has a large backyard that can be used in extreme privacy. Unfortunately, the lights in that area were not functional. So any night time activities would be difficult in that area. The bathroom was fully stocked and accommodated for all our needs including air freshner, toilet rolls, towels (including extra towels if needed), body wash, body lotion etc. I was amazed to find toothbrush also available for guests (this was found sealed in plastic). The bedroom has plenty cupboard space, including a safe. There was only one bed lamp on one side of the bed. Possibly maybe look at two for each side of the bed. The entire unit is fitted with asbestos heaters and there is an aircon as well in the main bedroom. The kitchen was fully stocked with all the necessary utensils, appliances, table and 4 chairs, fridge etc. including tea bags, sugar etc. I unfortunately did not find a toaster which was disappointing. The selling point of the property is the well manicured gardens that is taken care of by Oscar. We enjoyed the tranquil peace, quietness and security of the property. Lastly, there is ample parking for all guests. The price is definitely the cheapest around for what is offered and I would definitely book again at Private Cottages.

The brochure states easy to find - this is not so as the physical address of the property is 9 Halifax and not 7 Halifax as stated. I had great difficulty in finding the property as there is no clearly marked 7 Halifax on the property. Access to the property was not the easiest as I had to whatsapp the owner everytime I needed to get access to the property stating the time I will be coming in every night as there was no remote available for my use due to none available. This property shares the same access as the owner. It would be advisable to have separate entrances for the guests with their own remote and not be obligated to the owner to open and close the gate. I booked the pool view room. The room itself could do with a headboard as the wall is very cold especially during winter. The curtains in both the bedroom and lounge could do with a rehang as the hooks are not properly installed. I also suggest a garden chair to be installed outside the patio door area. One of the selling points of the property is the tennis courts. However, the tennis courts do require some maintenance.

Location to St Stithians couldn't be better! We didn't pay a lot for the accommodation so got fair value for money. Our unit was very clean & hosts very hospitable

Unfortunately the lack of decor detracted from the comfort of the unit...it looked terribly sparse & bare and lacked soul. Having only a single curtain in the bedroom which had to stretch the entire window compromised privacy. I have decorated many homes, B&B's etc and know it could be inexpensively improved (buys from marketplace & auctions, Mr Price etc). Not having our own remote & having to phone to be let in & out was also quite frustrating. Having a double bed (as opposed to queen or king) was really a tad too uncomfortable. Only 1 pillow each, no headboard, only one sidetable with only 1 lamp. And the single curtain (a pair is needed) The swimming pool is evidently being fixed, but in the meantime is green & unsightly.

The location of the place was spot on and the facilities were welcoming and in order. In addition, I felt safe in the location. Furthermore, I liked the parking lot for my car.

I did not like the fact that my privacy was invaded on; needless to say that I had to let the staff know anytime I was leaving the premises or arriving at the premises.

The owner was welcoming, warm and friendly. There were also two large dogs that we got to know and love. Parking for the car was off the street and secure and we felt safe at all times. The property is large and had a lovely garden and areas in which to sit outside.

Sadly, we were confronted with power outages and water cut-offs for several hours of every day. There was no fan in the room and it was warm and uncomfortable without any air flow at night during the power outages. The swimming pool was in a bad state. We cut our stay short here to find alternative accommodation.
