March 2024

The hostel La Moraga de Poniente is pretty cool. I've felt very welcomed and safe there through my whole stay, which is great coming from a female solo traveller. The beds are comfortable and you're able to have a bit of privacy due to the curtains. The staff is amazing, especially the hostel manager Jonny, with whom you can have very great and wise conversations. Moreover, the hostel is pretty clean with a good kitchen, which has everything you need. It's a great place to socialize with like-minded people. The location in the Pedregalejo / El Palo neighborhood is pretty nice, because those are the more local neighborhoods of Málaga. Near to the hostel you can easily find a Mercadona and lots of other shops and bakeries to buy food and daily groceries. Also, the beach is pretty close to the hostel, you just have to go down the street, perfect for watching the sunset every evening. Furthermore the hostel offers a bike rental service.

It's nothing bad, but you have to know that the hostel is located a bit far off the city centre, which is why you have to take the bus using the bus lines 3, 8 or 11 for about 15-25 minutes, depending on where in the centre you want to go. Travel tip: every bus ride costs 1.40€, they accept card payment. There is room for improvement in terms of activities offered by the hostel, e.g. city walking tours to get to know the area and other hostel guests a bit more or cooking tacos or other big meals together. Also I would suggest the hostel to put up a board with information about free activities in the area, e.g. the Alcazaba is free on Sundays after 2pm. All in all the hostel has great potential!

I don't know why this place is being rated with only 8,2 when it deserves to be rated much higher. It has everything, and it's beautiful. The beds are extremely comfortable, I slept like a baby even though we had a roommate who snored so hard. The kitchen is fully equipped, and there is enough space for everyone. You can get a locker for free, you get a towel for free, you get a hair dryer for free. We need to be grateful for the fact we don't need to pay anything extra because the price is already so cheap. The check-in process was smooth, just make sure to mention your arrival time to the staff. The location is distant from the city center, but it still does not matter because there would be a bus every time I stepped outside. Also, if you want to go to Nerja, which I recommend, the bus stops nearby the accommodation. Last but not least - explore the neighborhood, it is beautiful, safe and peaceful. Also, the beach is much more beautiful than the public beach in Malaga.

It is well located, the area is residential and quiet. The beach is just a couples of blocks away! - gorgeous and peaceful! You can see it from the terrace! The bus stops are just around the corner. It’s less than 15 minutes away from the city center. There is a Mercadona less than two blocks away, as well as other places for your everyday needs. The room with curtains is super comfortable, and even with the street next to it, you can sleep very well. The staff is really nice, always kind and helpful. You can do your laundry as well as cook in the kitchen.

The labeling of the food can be improved.

Such a lovely relaxed atmosphere perfect to chill out, the balcony & terrace areas are just too easy to while away the time on, great if you're needing a bit of a break. Great location near the beach, and right by a bus stop to catch the bus into town - really easy to navigate from. Staff are all really friendly too.

The only thing I'd say here is that the ladies bathroom could do with a little upgrade, the cubicles were very small so a little tricky to get changed in as you end up hitting the sides. The showers could've been better, but overall the basics are there and it's decent for the price.

Great area for a chilled holiday and the perfect hostel for that as well, everyone keeps to their selves not a very social hostel I would say. Literally a five minute walk to the beach that was perfect, but a lovely walk to the centre that took an hour but buses are available everywhere. I did one night get a takeaway and chilled on the rooftop and I stayed there the whole night which was perfect the views are lovely, so even if you didn’t want to go out every day the hostel has loads of options for you to chill and relax.

Only problem, I will say the toilet (cubicles) itself was very small and the showers had a dip in the floor where your feet would be in water the whole time.

It's very close to the beach and a Mercadona. The terrace is nice too. WiFi works well. By pure chance I had the whole room to myself all week until the weekend.

It's very far away from the center. It can feel more like a house than a hostel, the room I was put on had a double bed and a bunk bed, the bunk bed didn't have any curtains like the big shared room does, but it was ok since I was a alone most of the stay. The manager lives on site, so he's always there, which can be good and annoying haha.

I had trouble at the bus station getting a ticket for the next leg and this took time so was bit later than I had given as the time of arrival. I have no internet on my mobile by choice so had no info how to get the key to get into the hostel. I knocked on the door and the manager who lives in the hostel opened the door. I never print my confirmation, I just make a note of the number and this so far after +/- 15 bookings was never a problem. Lucky the manager has a can do attitude and sorted all out.

I had a look at the beach and didn't like it.

The hostel was overall really nice, it is not a party environment and it is very quite and peaceful to have a relaxing holiday. The beach, supermarket and bus station is super close. I stayed in a single room, it is small, but more than enough space to be comfortable. The beds and pillows where super comfortable and it was clean. The bathroom and kitchen are not new, but everything is clean and works as expected, maybe only 1 remark the cooking pans are usable but are ready for replacement. The staff was really friendly and will help you where they can. Prices are fair and towels where free (In other hostels they charge you extra). Would definitely recommend it!

Hostel was outside of the city centre but easy to reach via bus (€1,40 per journey). We LOVED not being outside of the city centre as we had the real Andalusia experience. Short walk to the beach which was clean and busy with local Spanish families who enjoyed the sun after work. the restaurants along the beach were lovely, all have little huts outside to grill fresh fish. hardly any tourists, sometimes no English menu which we liked as we could ask for recommendations from the waiter. Food prices were half the price than in Malaga centre hostel was very clean and beds were comfy. bathrooms were very clean too. Only minus point was what the shared bathroom was a floor lower than our twin bedroom but it was manageable. Overall very good value for money.
