The architecture of the hotel was beautiful and helped me reconnect with nature. The rooms come with all modern amenities including a french press. The beds are super comfy and helped ensure a great night's rest for every night we were there. The staff are great too and they go above and beyond- for insurance, they removed their shoes before entering the rooms. And finally, the food, although a bit overpriced is fresh and gives you a great flavor of Sri Lanka.

I really wish the property had a swimming pool and the bathrooms had a ventilation mechanism without opening the windows. I'd take 1 point off for both so Dunes is still a 9/10.

The hotel is absolutely stunning. The room is decorated with impeccable taste, it’s spotless, spacious, beautiful, and has everything you need and more. I also love the location — it couldn’t be better, right in the heart of Unawatuna, yet it feels completely secluded thanks to the jungle area with plenty of monkeys and a lake, giving you a true sense of disconnect. I really appreciated the thoughtful touches, like the beach towels, hats, and beach bags they provide. They really pay attention to every little detail. I would absolutely stay here again without any hesitation, and I will if I return to Unawatuna. Out of all the places we saw in the area, this was by far the best one, hands down.

The only thing I would improve is the breakfast pricing. It’s not included, and you have to order it the night before, but in my opinion, it’s slightly overpriced. That said, it was still absolutely delicious.

Absolutely loved our stay at Dunes, it's everything we needed in Galle/Unawatuna, despite not having a pool the beach is literally down the road so you don't even need the pool. The hotel is in the middle of everything and yet it is very quiet away from the main road. I absolutely loved staying here and wished I could stay longer. We opted for breakfast in the hotel in the morning and it was so entertaining to watch monkeys play in the trees and listening to birds chirping was my favourite part of the day. The room was big and spacious also

Great location (in the main strip with bars/restaurants, but just far enough away from the road to feel like miles away). The hotel is well designed - using a combination of traditional architecture and modern comfort (i.e. full mosquito netting hanging from a natural tree-branch frame). Good, reasonably priced meals. Beautiful pond/trees makes it feel like you are in a jungle - but still be a 5-minute walk from the beach. Lots of birds to watch while enjoying a cup of coffee on your balcony.

Check-in was slightly mismanaged. The room was not available at the scheduled check-in time (even though it was within standard check-in hours and communicated/accepted in advance). Then they gave me the wrong room (small). Eventually the error was corrected (and I did get in my room about an hour later than initially planned).

Such a beautiful property away from the chaotic streets of Unawatuna. As soon as you walk in you feel calm. The room was huge with free tea and coffee restocks daily . We loved the outdoor shower. Super easy walk to the beach, heaps of restaurants and shopping just outside the hotel. The staff were so attentive and friendly.

The only thing that I didn’t like was that our “king” bed was two singles pushed together. Not a huge deal but if this is something that bothers you then book a double room instead.

Great location just 5 minute walk to the beach and close to shops and restaurants. I liked that they provided free filtered water refills so we didn’t need to keep buying plastic water bottles. The shower had great pressure and hot water. Big comfy bed with mozzie net. I’d read reviews about hearing noise from neighbours but I did not experience this. We used this location as a place to stay near the beach on our final 2 days of our trip for its proximity to the airport. We also visited Galle from here which is an easy 15 minute tuk tuk ride away. Would stay again

The entrance off the busy street took you into a hidden garden, which felt relaxing immediately. And you're only minutes from the action. The tea and strong coffee is excellent, and the the food was filling, tasty and well presented. There was a crazy storm on arrival and we were trapped in our chalet (furthest from the main building), but the manager made a big effort to deliver us food and drink (they don't do room service due to the possibility of ants) I loved my outdoor shower and the water was hot and strong. Perfect during the storm. Beach towels were supplied - such a small detail but very welcomed.

You have to order your breakfast the night before for Sri Lankan, and not everything on the menu is available. Lots of rules about the menu. You can hear your neighbours talking in the next chalet, but we were prepared for this from other reviews. The beach is touristy and busy, but we got there early and left by midday.

Great location, walking distance to a lot of restaurants and the beach. Beautiful rums. Beautiful garden. You get to borrow towels for the beach and has great variety of brunch foods. Very helpful and available staff. Recommend strongly.

Be prepared for the occasional lizard in the room, but they dont usually bother you. You can really really hear the people in the upstairs rooms, just normal walking sounds like a cabaret. Either choose a room in the upper floors or use the earplugs the hotel provides and you'll be fine

A wonderful oasis of tranquility. The beautiful kingfisher who was often to be seen perched above the pond. The only place in Sri Lanka I heard good music playing! (Quiet, mellow, cool stuff). Excellent food, coffee, staff. The only place in Sri Lanka I found where the toast, bread and jam actually provided pleasure as well as calories.

As soon as you leave it’s bedlam! Fighting the mad traffic in the narrow lane to the beach.

So close to the town straight out of the driveway but tucked away as a little piece of paradise to the rear with wildlife and peaceful nature! Lots of restaurants a stride away and also the beach, but without the hustle and bustle and big unwelcoming hotel feel of the usual beach front accommodation. Gorgeous breakfasts available ! and well equipped room with emergency toothbrushes and toothpaste, toiletries, kettle and mini bar. Friendly helpful team and also a little library section and sun creams etc left by previous tourists. Wish we had time to stay longer
