I recently spent an incredible seven days at the Maharaja Hotel for our honeymoon, and I can confidently say it was one of the best experiences of my life. From the moment we arrived, the exceptional service set the tone for our stay. The staff, including Anita, Mashk, and Shaban, were warm, attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure we felt right at home. Every day, our room was meticulously cleaned, and we were pleasantly surprised to find fresh towels and beautiful towel swans arranged on the bed. These thoughtful touches made our honeymoon even more special. One of the highlights of our trip was a special dinner arranged right on the beach. The ambiance was simply magical, with the sound of waves creating a serene backdrop. The food was nothing short of spectacular—each dish not only looked amazing but also burst with flavor. It was clear that every meal was crafted with care and skill. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, offering a perfect blend of luxury and comfort. Every detail was thoughtfully considered, making our stay even more enjoyable. I can wholeheartedly recommend the Maharaja Hotel to anyone looking for a slice of paradise in Zanzibar. Our experience was truly remarkable, and I can't wait to return!

The airport transfer, even at 3 am, was smooth. Despite the late arrival, we were pleasantly surprised to find a snack waiting for us, which was so thoughtful considering the late hour – a lovely touch. The next day, the hotel staff kindly offered us a different room when they noticed the initial one wasn't quite to our liking – a lovely gesture that really showed their attentiveness. We were also very happy with the excellent internet signal throughout our stay. It was a nice touch to have our water replenished daily in the room, along with some biscuits. The hotel itself was generally very peaceful and quiet, providing a truly relaxing atmosphere. We did notice that the hotel seemed to be quite empty during our visit. However, what truly stood out was the incredible attention, friendliness, and helpfulness of the staff. A special mention must go to Anita, the manager, who was exceptional, as well as Cecília, the supervisor, and the ever-cheerful Issa and Leonard, who were always so kind and attentive during our meals. We also had a wonderful interaction with Ismail, a gardener, who went above and beyond by climbing a coconut tree to get us fresh coconut water one afternoon – such a treat! On a particularly rainy day, the lovely manager Anita did everything she could to make the situation more enjoyable for us. We also really appreciated Leonard, the waiter, who took the initiative to note down our breakfast preferences and share them with his colleagues for the days he wasn't working, so we didn't have to repeat ourselves. The proximity of the beach and the pool was fantastic. And the massage I received from Janeth? Honestly, it was the best I've ever had. And believe me, I've had massages in Bali and Thailand, so that's saying something!

It’s an amazing hotel. Really liked the place. It’s small and cozy resort. During my stay all staff used to address me by name. Thank you so much to Anita for assisting and attending all my needs and Yaya for arranging my tours. Especially I liked the house keeping. It was not just clean but always decorated with flowers and bath towels in a different shapes on my bed. Looked really awesome. The place is really like on the picture provided here on booking.com. WiFi was perfect working on a whole territory of the resort. During your dinner you can enjoy life music and traditional dancing. Food was always fresh and tasty. The bar is just next to the pool and staff can attend you even during your sunbathing.

If you’re seeking a quiet place with friendly people, this is the perfect spot. The peaceful atmosphere allowed me to fully unwind and enjoy my holiday. The property is beautifully maintained, with comfortable rooms and lush, landscaped grounds that make it feel like a true escape. One of the highlights was the stunning beach view—it was incredible to wake up to the sound of the waves and watch the sunset from my balcony. The amenities were excellent, especially the pool area, which was always clean and never too crowded. The staff were outstanding and made my stay unforgettable, especially Mr. ETo at the bar, who was warm and attentive. Overall, an amazing experience in a beautiful setting.

There wasn’t much I didn’t like about this place. However, it would have been nice to have a TV and a fridge in the room for added convenience. The only real drawback was the WiFi connection, which kept dropping intermittently. Other than that, everything else was fantastic.

Five star hotel. The best hotel we could have dream of. The emplacement, the attention, the services was just extraordinary, everything was meticulously cleaned and tidy. Anita’s attention made our stay even better, she was like an angel to us. The staff attention and help was also incredible. The hotel has an amazing view and private beach that we high recommend to use when the sea level is low. You can ask to have lunch outside when sea level is low and have the most romantic and best view ever. The landscape from the hotel is breathtaking. The rooms very extremely cleaned, we had to services per day to prepare the rooms for the day and night. Breakfast was extremely generous and delicious. The bathroom it’s European very clean and luminous, as the rooms. Water was also given by the hotel in the rooms. You can also have coconuts for free during the day freshly taken and cutted which were delicious. Food is generous and very well presented and high quality the breakfast was excellent, you can order whatever you want on the menu and everything we tried was delicious.

This was such a peaceful relaxing place, the staff were lovely and helpful, we especially wanted to highlight Anita and Cecilia who were so welcoming and made sure we were feeling at home. The hotel is super quiet with monkeys and turkeys roaming around. Really nice pool and most notably every meal was a gourmet feast, food was so beautifully presented, tasty and fresh - praises to the chef! We loved how everything was so simple yet so tasteful at the same time. The hotel is new and is being expanded, hopefully it maintains the peaceful and quiet nature that we loved!

As mentioned in other reviews, the beach is not the best to swim in as it is very tidal. The water was a bit choppy as it was windy. Location is a bit far from everything but that was also the charm. The guy who was offering excursions and taxis was unfortunately quite expensive, we ended up going for significantly cheaper deals we found elsewhere. Lastly, things included and not included in the full board plan were initially not super clear. With that said, we had no major issues and we would definitely recommend this place!

We had a lovely 5 nights here for our honeymoon, and were made to feel very welcome, including a complimentary private beachside dinner which was outstanding! We stayed in the deluxe room with private pool/beach, which was absolutely excellent, spacious/clean, and they even offered us a private breakfast on our terrace for the last day! The service was great from all members of staff, and the food was absolutely amazing - 3 course a la carte for lunch/dinner every day, with a wide range of different choices each day. The pool, beachside area and bars were quiet and laid back, can’t ask for much more!

There is no cash machine nearby, so bring some cash if intending to do some activities - having said this, they organised a free taxi for us to go to nearest cash machine (20 mins away), which was much appreciated! Generally the place was excellent, but it is evidently a new hotel and they’re getting used to things i.e. playing music from non-premium Spotify at the poolside with adverts or random song changes/repeats. There was also nowhere to exchange used pool towels, although the staff were very accommodating at getting us fresh ones when specifically asked. These are all just minor points and by no means affected our stay overall!

Staff was very nice, especially Leonard, Kite, and Anita. The food was very tasteful and served well. Received a complementary romantic dinner on the sand that was very good. Not too many people made the stay more pleasant and personalized. Only one restaurant with menu changing every day was a good setup.

The all-inclusive package seemed oversold as the alcohol vatiety was limited to mostly a few local variants and honestly not worth the extra charge, also given that drinks were chargeable at only 5USD. Service was slow, and it could take half an hour to get an omelette in the morning.

It is a small hotel with an amazing view and services. I recommend booking the room with direct sea view. Rooms are very romantic. Dining experience was superb. Chef Suleiman really amazed us with his dishes. I definitely recommend booking at least half-board package. The restaurant offers a la carte menu with different items every day. On some nights they arranged local shows (thanks to Cecelia for the services). Staff are very helpful and kind.

pillows are a bit hard. No shattaf (toilet hoses) in bathroom. No gym yet.

We stayed at this beautiful resort for 10 nights and had an amazing experience. The nature and surroundings are stunning. Anita and the entire team were incredible—so kind, always happy, and truly made us feel like part of their small family. :) We loved that it’s a small resort, which makes it so peaceful and never crowded. It’s the perfect fit for a relaxing vacation. The food was delicious, and the rooms were spotless. I highly recommend staying here!
