Although basic, my unit was comfortable. The complex was historic which always makes the stay unique. All the staff were top notch and so friendly. The terrace and the breakfast was great too. The locale was excellent near the Old Fort area.

A small thing but in the bath, they only provided a soap bar which was used and was incredibly tough to get even a tiny lather. Please change your soap brand! Please provide a small nite table beside the bed. The value- the nightly price was a bit steep given room condition. Figure out the route before hand to get there. I came through town and my tuk tuk driver had a really hard time finding it!

Staff were extremely helpful, they even walked me to a local electronics shop in stone town when my phone charger broke. The location is brilliant, right in the heart of stone town but only 1 street back from the water so easy to find and remember where you are. Also quite near to the ferry terminal so no taxi required if you’re arriving by ferry. Facilities are basic, but still good for what you pay for. My room had a fan and air conditioning which both worked well. The terrace on top is absolutely beautiful, you can only really see the adjacent buildings but they all the quintessential stone town architecture so it’s still very nice. It was a bit noisy but considering it’s in the middle of stone town it’s actually pretty good. I also got washing done there which was reasonably priced for hotel standards. The breakfast was quite basic but it’s included so can’t complain! I was tossing up between staying here and somewhere slightly more expensive a bit out of stone town, very glad I chose here and you will be too!

The location of Kiponda is perfect for exploring Stonetown, being near the water and right amidst the alleyways we wanted to follow, and is also near the wharf if travelling by ferry. The staff are extremely helpful and upgraded our room to make sure we were comfortable. They led us to a great restaurant on arrival, and booked the spice tour for us, making life easy. Breakfast is served in a delightful, airy, open area upstairs with fresh tropical fruit, freshly brewed coffee, warm chipatee, cereals and eggs if you wish. A relaxing , hospitable place to stay. And the ceiling fans were great to keep us cool in the bedrooms.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Kiponda B&B Hotel in Stone Town, and I must say it was a perfect experience from start to finish. From the moment I arrived with my big luggage, my first priority was finding a safe place to store it for the duration of my stay in Zanzibar. They not only offered secure storage facilities but exceeded my expectations by providing a reliable solution for my needs. Due to a delayed flight, I arrived at the hostel much later than anticipated. Despite the inconvenience, Salma, the owner, went above and beyond by offering to refund the cost of the missed day of my reservation. This gesture of understanding and flexibility immediately made me feel welcomed and valued as a guest. Upon my return, with an early morning flight looming, Salma surprised me once again with her exceptional hospitality. She kindly arranged a room for me, ensuring I had a comfortable and stress-free stay before my departure. I cannot express enough gratitude for the level of care and hospitality I experienced here. Salma's dedication to guest satisfaction is truly remarkable and sets a standard of service that I have rarely encountered in my travels. For solo travelers who want to explore the island like myself, navigating with a large luggage, Kiponda Hotel is an absolute gem. I wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone seeking a hassle-free stay in Stone Town, Zanzibar.

the WiFi is not available in the rooms, but it didn't significantly impact my experience.

While we’re not talking high end accommodations here, what I am saying is that I received great value for the price. Mohammed and staff went above and beyond in anticipating and meeting our needs. If you’re going to Zanzibar for an all-inclusive beach stay, this is the wrong venue. If you want a perfect location to experience the life and culture of Stone Town, then this is the absolutely best place for you. A truly unique adventure.

As a cooler temperatures loving Canadian, the heat and humidity at the end of February in Zanzibar was tough to adjust to.

The staff were incredibly friendly, the location is fantastic (especially when we wanted to freshen up from the heat multiple times a day), and overall it was exactly what we needed! It is in the heart of Stone Town, and easy to find if you don’t use Apple Maps haha! They were even kind enough to store our bags after checkout and offer us a shower before we travelled.

There were only a few minor improvements I could see being made, as our twin room only had one plug socket (which isn’t great for two people), the bathroom door was very loud, and the wifi occasionally dropped out. But this is somewhat expected for a cheap and cheerful B&B. (The steps are quite steep too, just to be wary for accessibility reasons)

The location is fabulous. Very very close to the sea as well as many historical buildings of stone town. Within 3 minutes walking distance from Zanzibar ferry terminal, the harbour & forodhani park (night food market). Built in traditional Zanzibar architecture, loved the old house feel of this place. Wifi was good. The ladies at the reception are very helpful.

No telephone in the room. Sorry but breakfast served was below average. Only cut fruits and cornflakes/oats and tea/coffee. I had to ask the staff to make Omlette for me and they obliged - which I am happy about. Some people might feel uncomfortable in the night coz of the dingy narrow and not so well lit street where it is located. But this is not the problem of the property. Most of stone town is like this in the night.

The staff was extremely wonderful and the location was great. Everyone helped us from baggage to tours. Best location ever, can walk everywhere, near the ocean. This part of the old city is architecturally and culturally exquisite.

Because of bad knees I couldn't climb the stairs so took a room on first floor. There was no internet in my room so I had to sit in the courtyard to use my phone. Upstairs room had internet. The staff brought me breakfast from the top floor which was great

The location is great. The staff were also helpful and nice. Breakfast was simple, but included a great selection of fresh fruits which were a huge bonus. We booked spice tour and transfer via the hotel.

The hotel is a little worn-down/shabby, but everything was functioning ok at our stay.

Wow, what a little gem of a place. Perfect spot to get lost in Stone town and the staff are just amazing! The basic but perfect breakfast was lovely too.

A bit noisy in the neighbourhood because, well... People live close together there... I wish bottled water was provided but nearly every little shop sells it though.
