Very friendly and helpful owner; clean and comfortable room with nice hot shower; excellent location right beside transport hub (but not noisy) and convenient for town. Could leave luggage after checkout to collect later, allowing me to take a day exploring comfortably (I took bus to Abbotsford House). A great economical alternative to staying in Edinburgh (was going to football at Murrayfield!), with the train providing a good transport link in just 50 minutes.

Maybe somewhere in shower to rest spectacles and shower gel/shampoo? Otherwise no problems; breakfast isn't supplied but this was made clear from the start on booking and there are plenty of places nearby to get supplies or have a café breakfast.

I recommend this guest house provided it doesn't matter to you that some rooms, possibly all, are not ensuite, and they currently don't do breakfast (I guess that might change). The room was clean and comfortable, including the bed. Little details were well attended to. That is, more than enough tea bags, coffee and milk sachets with the tea maid for my three nights, plus chocolate biscuits. The shared bathroom with another room was clean, and the shower was probably the simplest I've ever used! It was a friendly welcome, and the proprietor obligingly locked my bike in the former breakfast room, making it very secure. Location-wise, for me, it was perfect. Just a short walk to the town centre but more importantly, for me, it was immediately opposite the reopened Galashiels railway station and, likewise, reopened Borders rail line, Tweedmouth - Edinburgh. It is also just two doors from the bus station. It was a pity they no longer do breakfast, but I respect their probable reason for it and it wasn't an issue (I used the Wetherspoon). The property is for sale so I infer the proprietors are winding down to retire. If new proprietors continue it, I guess it's possible they will reinstate breakfast. As things stand, however, I recommend it provided you are comfortable with the two points.

Lovely cosy warm property on a cold winters day/night. Malcom the owner was exceptionally friendly and greeted us sincerely. The room and bathroom facilities were a welcome from the cold, comfortable clean and homely. Tea/coffee facilities with a small array of biscuits in the room. Small things such as the home made handkerchief box case that shows the care, details and attention the owners take within their establishment. Would 100% recommend the Monorene Guest house for a warm, clean and exceptional value for money guest house in Galashiels & would stay again if visiting the area.

I liked the location of the guesthouse as it was so close to the town center. The bus station and also the train station I also like how close Tesco and Asda are to the guesthouse

Although I did not take my car I think the car parking facilities could be better. As there was no direct access to the guesthouse from the car park For exame the car park is round the back and the access to the guesthouse is round the front

brilliant place to stay.minutes from.amenities..bars restaurants. very clean..had everything i needed. tea coffee biscuits..car park..i used the shared bathroom .it was very clean and the shower was fab..the hosts are lovely friendly and informative..cant do enough for you. i stayed 2 nights and felt very comfortable.exceptional value for money. no breakfast but there is wetherspoons minutes away ..i would highly recommend staying here.

The location was perfect for everything and training into Edinburgh. Lovely people and such a comfortable bed. The fellow who owns the place went out of his way twice to help. One involved taking my friend in the car to another village to pick up her bag . Many many thanks for the kindness !

I received a really friendly welcome from the staff, who were chatty and amiable throughout my stay. The room was basic, but I have stayed before and knew it would be clean, the bed comfortable, and the building would be warm. Parking is available at the property.

Ì prefer wnsuite rooms, but having to share the facilities with one other room went smoothly.

Lovely stay and very accomodating hosts! We arrived late at night and they still allowed us to check in and left little chocolate bars with the kettle for more enjoyment..I was happy to have our own private bathroom. Which was perfect for getting ready before our friends wedding and the beds were comfy. Pleased with our stay and perfect location. Parking too!

Owner was very informative about the accommodation & provided useful advice on where to eat locally. We were also pleased to receive an upgrade from a twin with shared bathroom to an en-suite twin room. We were also able to store our cycles securely within the house.

The decor was somewhat dated, though the property is currently up for sale.

Pretty conveniently located with a few spaces for off street parking behind hotel. Good basic accommodation on 2nd floor. Host was accommodating to our lack of cell service/ non response to his messages and late arrival.

Bathroom light went out after we arrived. We were honestly too tired/ it was too late to bother our host about it but did let him know when we left the next day. It is on a main road with a train station/announcements until quite late across the street and a fair amount of traffic noise.
