Great budget hotel - no issues with check in - was told on arrival that our allocated room had issues with broken aircon but we were immediately reallocated to a new room. Comfy bed, no issues with noise, friendly staff. We used the room as a base to explore which worked well for us. Little shopping centre really close with shops/supermarkets and some places open very late at night for last minute things if needed. Room was basic - no tea/coffee facilities etc but we weren’t expecting this as not advertised. Room wasn’t huge but spacious enough and worked fine for what we needed. Did have a hair dryer and plenty of plug sockets, TV, DVD player. Air con was a dream in the heatwave!!!! Around 30mins via public transport to central London - but lots of buses within a few mins walk of hotel and regular service at all times.
Room could have been a little cleaner in bathroom area and the water temp in shower was a little hit and miss. This was not enough of an issue for us to raise it with staff to put this in perspective. The area did feel a little sketchy later at night but having said that we were back late both nights of our stay and we had no issues what so ever. Lots of stairs - but to be honest expected this from the reviews and corridors were not as narrow as other reviews described - normal house type so as long as people were courteous (which they were!!!) this was not an issue at all.

1. The shabby chic, Mexican Day Of The Dead, Frida Kahlo aesthetic and religious iconography. 2. The location, especially its proximity to so many great places to eat. Next to Camberwell Leisure Centre. 3. The dining room area.
A guest left the tap running in their room on the 3rd floor. I was staying in a room on the 2nd floor. The water leaked through to the floor and electrical ceiling wiring, which includes the smoke detectors. The water made it extremely hazardous to walk along the corridor. I was forced to vacate my room earlier than anticipated because of it. Whoever did this, had to have done it deliberately in my opinion. I was saddened this incident negatively impacted a perfectly enjoyable staycation.

This is a real gem of a place - when booking such a good rate so close to central I wasn't sure if what I was getting into would be exactly as told on here and, it is. This place is a real gem and Camberwell has a plethora of amazing places to eat - I recommend the falafel place literally next door, and Moloko across the road. Church Street is lovely, quirky, clean, breakfast is great and the DVD selection is top-notch. I was sending pictures to my friends and family and will definitely be coming back :).
Not really a complaint because it *is* mentioned on the checkout but just a reminder, you do need a £50 book in fee on the day that is completely refunded when you check out (unless you use the honesty bar)- just a damage deposit. Also, I have physical disabilities and the stairs are quite steep but there's banisters the whole way and the staff were very helpful in helping me get to my room :).

Nice neighbourhood, not that far away from Westminster/Mayfair, nice breakfast places nearby. Though the room is small, everything was clean and we got a change of towels after a day or two.
The room was quite small and we got the attic room, so we had to carry our heavy suitcases along the very narrow stairs all the way to the top (2nd or 3rd floor i think). Additionally, the temperature of the shower isn’t able to be regulated very well (mostly it was too hot, and it was already hot/humid in the room). Otherwise everything was fine.

We have stayed in this hotel on numerous occasions and we like its individual character. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Compared to other places we have stayed, Church Street Hotel is excellent value for money.
When we first stayed at the hotel, I think it had recently been decorated/refurbished and I loved the quirky, creative atmosphere. I just wish whoever runs the place would keep up a bit with the overall maintenance. Through everyday wear and tear, paintwork etc is bound to get tatty and fixtures get broken but then they just need attention!

A fabulous little hotel; really fun decor with nice quirky touches like leaving Tunnock's Tea Cakes in the rooms and a DVD library in the restaurant (the rooms also have DVD players if you find something you'd like to watch). Breakfast is good and there is an Honesty Bar where you can get drinks and snacks 24 hours a day. Location also really good; Camberwell is a trendy part of London with great places to eat right on the doorstep of the hotel.
Not a major issue with the hotel itself but just be aware the hotel isn't particularly near any Underground stations so you need to catch buses to get into the city. Buses go frequently and run through the night but leave plenty of time to get anywhere if travelling at peak times as London traffic can be heavy.

Well above what I expected given the price. Clean and comfortable room with private sink. Shared shower was very clean. Great option of paying for breakfast if you want it with free coffee and tea and honesty bar. I worked from the common room for a few hours in the morning. Staff were really welcoming, love the little touch of chocolate in the room! Would definitely stay again if in London.
Location is quite easy, but with everything in London it depends where you are visiting.

the decoration in the room was rather quirky and interesting - Mexican-style decor and the walls had illuminated cubby holes filled with ornaments. The bed was OK in itself - it wasn't a memory foam-style mattress, but comfortable nonetheless. The room I had was facing the main road, and initially I found it rather noisy, but after closing the internal secondary double glazing, it was quiet enough. Good location to stay if you have an early morning hospital appointment, and there are plenty of diverse restaurants within a 5 minutes walk. I would certainly use again if I need to stay in the area.
Car parking is very limited. It is possible to park in the street over the weekend, but a pass is needed if you want to park during the week. However, there is an option to park at a local church (5-10 minutes walk away) for a fee. Plus, there was no coffee available when I had breakfast (there were no coffee beans for the machine!)

A really great find. Lovely quirky decoration Moroccan style, spotlessly clean and immaculately tidy. Friendly and welcoming staff. Great little thoughtful extras, quality coffee available, and lovely communal areas. Decorated and accessorised with real character. I had a single room with a shared bathroom, but it was just a step away from my room and not a problem. Peaceful room at the back of the property, plenty of towels etc. I really liked it. Great choice of restaurants and eateries within 100 metres of property. Perfect location for a trip to Burgess parkrun. Easy walk from Denmark Hill tube station and felt very safe to me. Bedding was high quality. Two comfy pillows.
the actual mattress had seen better days. It was 'ok' and the rest of the room and facilities made up for it, but that wasn't to the same standard as everything else

Loved the decor. Loved the simple late night check in system Loved the cleanliness Quite liked the breakfast room being available for making complimentary hot drinks all day.
The lighting level in the ensuite was poor. Missed not having drinks making facilities in the room in the morning. Didn’t like the noise from the adjacent car park that started between 5 & 6. (It was hot when we stayed so we did have the window open.) Didn’t like that breakfast was included if you booked direct but not if you used booking.com. Also suspected that the best rooms were saved for direct bookings - our second room was 3 floors above the ensuite room even though it was booked at the same time. Didn’t like the worn out sofa in the breakfast room - gave a bad visual and not suitable for sitting on.
