This was my second stay at the Rose and Crown, 11 nights this time. I chose to stay there again because: 1) the staff are outstanding, friendly and helpful at all times 2) the pub maintains its old-world charm while offering comfortable accommodation 3) the location is excellent if you like staying in an ancient, historic village. It's right across from the village green. 4) the food is excellent 5) the credentials of the pub are obvious: not only is the accommodation fully booked at times, but the pub itself is very well patronised by the locals for meals (also fully booked at times) and pub services, and the village green is also well-used by the locals. It is clearly a hub for the locals in this very charming village where there there are other pubs serving meals. 6) the staff were all very kind to me when I had a brush with the C virus
Nothing!! By the way, you ask whether I visited Sandy Bay Beach which you state is one of the closest beaches. I did not. I visited Rest Bay and Pink Bay beaches which are far closer to the Rose and Crown.

The bedroom and bathroom were spotless and the beds were very comfortable. The shower was over the bath. There was ample storage space in the carpeted bedroom. Each room had a name, and a little poster next to the door offering a little snippet of Nottage history. Our window, at the back of the property, looked out towards countryside. We had booked the last room I think, and so had room 5, which has been mentioned by a previous guest as being noisy (rolling of barrels is the sound), but I had brought ear plugs just in case. The member of staff who checked us in came across as a very warm person; similarly, the cleaner I spoke to upon checkout. Staff were friendly in general. I spent a short time in the bar and found the real ale to be in excellent condition. The local area is interesting historically and not far from some holy wells (you can't access the water.) It's a 15-20 minute walk to Porthcawl Esplanade.
There wasn't anything I didn't like. I didn't find the bar area to be particularly cosy; nevertheless, the pub is clearly popular with both drinkers and diners.

Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Nothing too much trouble. Food was delicious with plenty of choice. Lovely breakfast to start the day. Good location for walking. Footpath quite close by to take you to Rest Bay and beyond towards Kenfig or go the other way via common towards Porthcawl itself. Amazing walk. Cafe at Rest Bay offering wide range of drinks and food with stunning views out to sea. Ideal for watching surfers. Loved Porthcawl, will be back as soon as able and would definitely stay at Rose & Crown.

My partner and myself stayed for the weekend as he was taking part in the Dragon bike race (My in-laws stayed in their motor home just around the corner at a campsite). I pre booked a table for dinner for both nights online and we all had something different both nights, all meals were spot on! The service was above and beyond by all staff members. Our room was lovely and clean. The pub is in a great location and it had a lovely, busy atmosphere all day/evening! Our breakfast was included in the reasonable price and that was also very nice too! We would stay again and we would recommended to anyone else too! :-)
Nothing not to like! :-)

Staff were excellent, very attentive and accommodating. Extensive choice of food and very good standard too. The location was perfect only 20 mins from waterfront. Our rooms were clean.
The rooms are desperate for a revamp at least some re decoration. Wall and ceiling paper are falling off. The shower kept running too hot and cold. The cask Ales needs to be managed a lot better. The Best Bitter and Brains SA were poor even when the barrels were allegedly changed for the next day, they were cloudy and tasted slightly vinegary.

Loved everything about this place. Super friendly and welcoming from the minute we arrived. Pub/ restuarant and rooms set opposite a lovely village green. Beautiful proper pub with large real fire set in a gorgeous bar. We had a lovely large comfy family room with a proper bed for my son - not a pull out or sofa bed. Large warm bathroom with shower and bath. We had dinner in the evening which was just lovely and breakfast which was absolutely amazing, Brilliant value, excellent service and we are already planning to return. Must mention the young waiters and waitresses on a super busy night. Unfailingly helpful, friendly and chatty. Loved the place!!
Nothing. We all agreed everything was great.

Good value for money and lovely staff. The pub itself was very nice, with a good selection of beers. The room was perfectly comfortable. Breakfast was also good value, and good ingredients.
The bathroom was a little dated, and the shower tended to alter temperature quite suddenly by itself. The hotel is also more than a mile walk to Porthcawl pubs, restaurants etc. so be prepared to walk as taxis are tricky to get.

Fantastic Staff - Friendly and helpful. It's such a change to find hotel/pub staff who seem to enjoy their work! Restaurant Menu was varied and excellent quality/value for money. Comfortable bed and nice hot showers (but see what I didn't like)
The price of drinks - but that's just a hazard everywhere when eating out! The age of the property means that the bedroom floor boards creak - a lot. In the bathroom, the hot water was hot - but so was the cold!

Beautiful old pub, dating back to the middle ages. Apparently Ann Boleyn stayed there. Unfortunately I didn't get get to sample the beer or food as I was gone from about 9am until 1am each day, but everything looked great. Room was way bigger than I needed and priced accordingly but at the time of booking that was all that was available. Plenty of parking.
It's a bit out of the way if you're on foot. About half an hour from Porthcawl town so it's a very dark walk back.

The dinners were very good. The room was fine and so was the shower. The room provided nice large towels and breakfast items (coffee and tea bags, milk and sugar) with electric water cattle very helpful when the morning were a little too cool for us.
The view from our window. I guess the only room available was not the best because the view was the roof top occupied by the exhaust of...heaters? Kitchen stoves? However, we did not mind the pleasant smell reaching from the kitchen below us when the preparation for the day meals were taking place :)
