Friendly staff. Reasoable priced hotel 2 miles from scrabster ferry to Orkeney. We were given massive room with 2 settees on front of hotel.!! And massive disabled bathroom . Clean enough. Meal in restaurant was good and reasonably priced . Breakfast was good too. Motorbike friendly although bikes parked opposite hotel on road . Seemed secure enough but we locked bikes up and i put cover on mine.
Bedroom was fine and big. But bathroom was a diabled one. Sink was tiny as soooo low. Im 6ft 2in tall and had to kneel down to use it. Our room was on road front and we were woken up to a police car at 4am parked outside for 10 mins with its lights flashing! Then an hour later we were woken up with cars racing up and down the road. So not the best nights sleep!! Hotel covered in scaffolding due to referbishments. Ceilings on ground floor and our bedroom had obvious water damage with wall paper peeling off etc .

The staff was incredibly friendly. There was a charm associated with staying at a small, family business. We appreciated that the restaurant was available. The food was great - had the lamb! We booked just a few minutes before arriving and the room was prepared for occupancy which was great. The parking was convenient and free. A well rounded and straight forward experience.
Our only area of dislike was the eco toilet. My partner was super excited to finally see one of these toilets with a built in sink. Unfortunately it did turn out to be disconcerting in real life and not as great an experience as anticipated. There was also a slight sewer gas smell in the bathroom - not sure if it was the toilet or something else.

Great location for town centre/railway station. Lovely family run hotel, made to feel welcome. My on-suite room on the top floor was spacious, comfortable, warm and had everything you’d need for a pleasant stay. The view was wonderful. Super value for money. The hotel restaurant was quiet but great fish and chips. Breakfast was an available option but I was leaving early so didn’t have any.
If I was being picky the only thing stopping this hotel from getting full marks is the lack of attention to detail in cleaning, wipe the skirtings, polish the mirror!

"My stay at the Manor Hotel was delightful, as I spent a night there before catching a ferry the next day I was there for only 1 evening. The hotel was housed within a historic building that, while not modern, boasted amenities such as a good TV and excellent Wi-Fi. Dining at the hotel's restaurant was a highlight; I indulged in one of the finest fish meals I've ever had, all at a reasonable price. The location couldn't have been more convenient, with ample parking available right outside. They did offer breakfast however I unfortunately did not try this. Overall, my experience was truly exceptional. I couldn't have asked for more."

It was very central to town, easy 5-10 minute walk to train station, big old stone house with nice view of river. Really friendly, relaxed welcome in this family run hotel. Food available till 2030, we had the fish and chips, beautifully cooked fish although too big a portion for me personally. Well stocked bar with delicious Orkney beer on draught. Our room was small but comfortable bed with fully functioning modern en suite and plentiful tea making facilities. Suited perfectly for our overnight stay. Excellent value, lovely atmosphere.
Our room was too warm even after turning the heating down, a unusual issue in the far north of Scotland!! Didn’t want to make noise trying to open the window. I’m sure the owner would have sorted this if we were staying longer. If you’re looking for a sterile, immaculate, characterless hotel this one is not for you but if you want friendly charm, with really decent facilities at an affordable price point - book now.

The building has some lovely features and my room was spacious and comfy. Did not have breakfast as I was about to travel on a ferry and the sea was a bit choppy, however I had dinner the previous evening which was delicious and reasonably priced.

The location was good for my needs. I had a warm welcome. The bar looked inviting, although I didn't use it. It seems the hotel is still a work in progress as it had scaffolding around it.
The weird eco basin/toilet in the bathroom, it may be ok for a small cloakroom at someone's home, but not a hotel bathroom The mattress was very soft, and it seemed a budget one with few springs. But I did sleep ok. That was probably due to the 515 mile drive I had just done in an electric car!

The hotel is situated in central Thurso, at a particularly beautiful stretch of the Thurso river lined with old trees and small tributaries which makes for delightful promenades. Manor House is part of a row of large Victorian houses, and has been lovingly renovated to a good modern standard whilst keeping many period features. My room was large and flooded with light, with a beautiful chimney and a river view. All attractions - the Thurso estuary, Old St. Peter's Kirk and the local museum are in walking distance as well as the bus service to other North Coast attractions (Castle of Mey, Duncansay Stacks close to John O'Groats) and the station.
To be truly 'continental', the breakfast could have provided some cheese, boiled eggs, 'normal' bread and rolls.

The hotel owner was very warm and welcoming, and we really enjoyed our dinners. I especially liked the fish and chips—it was perfectly cooked, with fresh fish in a generous portion. The hotel itself is a beautiful Victorian building, with a lovely staircase and intricate floor tiles in the hall and bar area. Our room was cozy and warm, which was especially nice for October. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Manor House Hotel.

Nothing was a problem, the owner and his wife were very honest in their approach to running this boutique hotel, true to their Irish heritage. The daughter booked us in, the father was chef, mum ran the day to day business and the son made us coffee and tea while we waited for a taxi to the railway station, which is not all that far away, but being old and using walking sticks, trudging our luggage was just a bit too far. The room was set up for disabled people and was lovely and clean, a pleasure to stay there. They serve a great menu for dinner and have a full bar for the drinkers. Breakfast was served with all the bonhomie the Irish project, and you won't go away hungry! Highly recommended.
There was a problem checking in at 3pm, the sons vehicle had broken down and Dad had to fix it before he could get back to the Hotel. In saying that, we were given free breakfast for waiting a bit longer! Other than that, absolutely nothing!
