Nearly everything about this hotel is wonderful. The staff was extremely helpful, the room was comfortable and quiet, the breakfast was very good. The location is good, too, just a 10-minute walk from the pier where the ferry from Buenos Aires docks. The hotel faces a charming little public square with big trees.

At this price, I would've expected a coffee-maker in the room, although that wasn't a big deal. The only real weakness is that the wi-fi wasn't very good.

We came here on our honeymoon, and our so our stay started out with them messaging us about giving us a great room with a balcony overlooking the nearby park. So kind. Then upon arrival, the gentleman who greeted us was incredibly kind and hospitable, helping with parking and bags. We arrived exhausted and asked where we could get an espresso. He was kind enough to offer us nearby coffee shop recommendations as well as offer to make them for us in the hotel - we opted for this route and they were delicious. The breakfast was also out of this world - they’ll do made to order eggs that were fantastic. We watched the sunset over the water and then had a cocktail in the library before heading out to dinner. it was pretty magical, and all close to the port for our early morning departure. It was a perfect stay. We had one small issue with the room I normally wouldn’t even mention, except to commend the staff on the way they handled it. They took care of the issue swiftly and while we were out at dinner so as to not disturb us.

The room was very nice (including nice balcony) and the whole hotel is very pretty and comfortable. The location is very good, the breakfast as well. The best of this hotel are the 2 gentleman Enmanuel and Nelson, who were great and helped us with so many nice recommendations and reservations!

it would be nice if the jacuzzi on the rooftop could be repaired, and if the balcony could have some more convenient chairs. On our last day, we had an early leave and it would have been nice if breakfast would have been better prepared. furthermore all was perfect!

A great historical property overlooking a lovely park in the viejo ciudad. The room was spacious with updated facilities. It was a great location for our departure via ferry the following morning - a mere 5 minute taxi ride to the port.

The lovely park is unfortunately home to many homeless people who kept us awake at night. We stayed on a Saturday night and there were no bars or cafes within 10 blocks of the hotel and we were very glad to have made reservations at Jacinto which is the only restaurant nearby. We were surprised that there was no lively street scene nearby since there are many young people living in the area.

Location is great. Lots of travel books talk about the old town being dangerous. I disagree. Felt overall as safe as any large city and safer than many. The property is expertly detailed. The staff is meticulous. Nelson the concierge will make you feel like you are the only guest he has no matter how busy he is.

The front door is always locked. But this is not uncommon.

Lovely breakfast and excellent concierge. We also liked the terrace. The historical touches are much appreciated and give some welcome context - each room is dedicated to a significant Uruguayan figure.

Not the hotel’s fault, but the area’s undoubted problems with street crime seemed all too obvious during Carnaval with so few people on the streets and a.noticeable police presence. That said, plaza Zebalda itself is lovely.

Nelson was a wonderful host and true gentleman. He made us fell very welcome and went to great lengths to explain the theme of our room and how to enjoy montevideo. It's a really classy hotel.

Nothing.

You will find a rare combination of historic charm with conveniences and a welcoming staff. Set in the middle of the Old City, this hotel is accessible to restaurants, shops and plazas. Breakfast was excellent. It also has a lovely, old-fashioned library not he second floor.

We liked everything

Breathtaking views of landmark buildings, blue skies and the port from suite Don Carlos’ terrace. There is also another great communal terrace. I loved the wooden floors throughout the hotel. The light flooded suite was in very with good taste and practical decor. The themed rooms featuring Uruguayan personalities add to the experience. The staff is very attentive and accommodating. Excellent breakfast with fresh farm products. Some of best scrambled eggs I ever had.

there wasn’t anything I disliked.

The Alma Hotel exceeded our expectations in all regards. The hotel, our room, the staff and location were all superlative. Hidalgo and Nelson booked us with good restaurants, were so helpful with travel plans, and went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Breakfast of omelets, baked goods, fruit and coffee was generous and delicious. The Cuidad Vieja was a lovely place to stay, plenty of restaurants within walking distance, and it was quiet and safe.

cannot think of a thing!
