The room was better than I imagined! Very modern/appeared to be new and was a good size including a kitchenette fully appointed! We asked for a King room and we were given a King room with a pullout sofa which housekeeping dressed daily. The location was one block away from a main interest area with loads of shopping and dining options. There is also a laundry across the street which is brilliant if you have multiple destinations and want to wash during your stay. We read concerns about the street feeling unsafe; and were mindful about that. We had no issues during our visit.

Housekeeping had to be reminded to refill bathroom supplies (towels, toilet paper). The room was clean but we had to ask for what we needed as opposed to basic items always being replenished. The hot water temperature did not get as hot as we like. If you are a light sleeping, the street noise may be a nuisance. We were located on a high floor but we still heard that street noise.

The hotel is well located in the old town. It's close to squares, restaurants, and theater. It's walking distance to the Mercado del Puerto. The room is spacious and comfortable, heating was good, wifi works well. The bathroom is small but works well with a generous hot shower. The bar and restaurant has a decent list of starters, dishes and drinks.

The first negative impression was because the hotel has no parking space for you to load/unload your luggage. The hotel also does not have parking. We used a private parking a block away, that fortunately opens 24/7 and has special prices for long stay. Then, the continuous noise in the reception area caused by the a/c according to the staff is really annoying.

The hotel exceeded our expectations, meeting all our needs with ease. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the fast Wi-Fi was a great convenience. The staff were excellent and very accommodating. Additionally, its proximity to the old town and other points of interest made our stay even more enjoyable.

The rooms feature kitchenettes, but they lack basic utensils such as cutlery, plates, and wine glasses. Fortunately, these items are available upon request at the reception. The breakfast offers good value for money; however, it might become monotonous if you're staying for more than 2-3 nights.

Really nice rooms, restaurant and the staff were generally very nice.

The gym is tiny but hey it’s still a place to workout with some equipment- better than nothing. There was some street noise even though we were on 9th floor but I guess this can be expected for a Saturday night so not the hotels fault. Aside from the hotel - Montevideo is actually so overpriced it hurts and not even that good - I wouldn’t say it’s worth the money and the old town is completely run down and full of shady people trying to sell you drugs. We didn’t feel threatened at any point but it was not nice at all. Literally EVERYTHING is stupidly overpriced come here for short time only unless you won the lottery

Brothers Jordan and Joseph were very helpful friendly and efficient. The guy who checked us in and out was also exceptionally helpful. The room was a delux room and spacious. The cleaning staff excellent and very pleasant to deal with as the fridge needed attention when we arrived. This was done quickly and we were able to check in and leave our bags early. Our check out time was facilitated and we were given help with translating our flight bookings and the hotel booked our taxi ensuring we got to the airport in good time. The restaurant is very nice and the food and wine good. It was very friendly and good value. We are glad we booked The Smart Hotel.

Excellent communication from staff in the days and weeks leading up to the stay and upon arrival; kind and helpful staff upon arrival; within a 5-10 minute walk of the main square and La Rambla; airport shuttle can be coordinated ahead of time without a problem; attached restaurant had kind and efficient servers and service, and good food.

Limited space in the bathroom, but it served its purpose, though the lighting could have been improved in the shower. However, I'm still very confused as to why there were two of the smallest trash cans I've ever seen in the room...impossibly small!

People complained about the location being sketchy. No, the whole city has this old colonial feel and garbage is everywhere. It is not about this hotel location per se. it also says nothing about the charm of this country. Its just the way it is, and I never felt unsafe. The room is big and the hotel centrally located. Very good value.

It can get noisy at night with traffic or working vehicles in the street. I stayed on the 9th floor. Its the city, not the hotel though.

This was a really tough one to rate. Fantastic staff super comfortable comfy bedding, good shower and great location. I stayed for 6 nights and had read about Street noise so had requested a high floor. They upgraded me to a 5th floor corner room with many windows and great tree views but sure enough street noise was an issue. The next day they moved me to a 10th floor room with a terrace and great partial water view room 1004. But the elevator makes an annoying clack every time it stops. Luckily I have an 8 hour sleep recording that drowned it out.

I had to take some time to write the review (some distance and a new place contributed hugely to the objectivity of my evaluation of the hotel). 1. The location: Smart Hotel MVD is located at the „old city“ or cuidad viejo. This district is full of sightseeings (for es. the Independence square, the Court of Justice, many market halls) as well as of poor people/ drug addicts. you will see some wonderful architectural objects (houses, villas) being in a bad condition, contributing to the very unique Charme of Montevideo. Apart of that, the hotel is 5 min walking distance from the ocean side and 20/25 min to the next good beach. Smart hotel is very close to hundreds of cheap (comparing to the other districts of Montevideo, where the normal supermarkets are relatively more expensive) “supermercado” and bakeries/ culinary shops (where you can by ready meals by weight or as a full lunch ‘plate’ with a main and a side). 2. Staff Very nice and friendly, ready to support you with any info and reacting prompt in cases of emergency (We had to find a doctor and our daughter fall down and hit her head & broke her lip). All of them speak excellent English. 3. Breakfast Considering to a normal European continental breakfast I would give 3 starts (out of 5) to the hotel’s breakfast. Scrabbled eggs, sometimes bacon, a couple of fruits, toasts, coffee/tea/cocoa/ milk; 2/3 types of muesli/ cereals; fresh ham and cheese were very good & tasty. 4.Other pluses The roof Terrace is a must: you can arrange a romantic (to a certain extent) evening Room service is good and comparing the the prices at restaurants is even cheaper.

The next door house is a club and local people donot hesitate to dance and chat and to be pretty loud from Friday on till Sunday night. it is “bearable” if you leave in the 7/8/9th floor. can’t know about the rest.

This was a great option for us since we only had two nights and planned to do some walking around the city center. We had a big room with a comfortable bed, and lucked out with a high floor as well so we had great views from our room. Everything looked modern and clean in both the room and bathroom, and the staff was very accommodating and friendly. No issues whatsoever and I would stay here again if I return to Montevideo.
