Dinner was delightful. Dining room is nice with windows that open and the outside patio with fire pit was inviting as well. Loved the large sitting room where tea and scones were served in the afternoon. Loved the quaint historic building and antique decor. Library was full of interesting books as well. Never had Sherry provided in a room for a nightcap, I presume.

The setting is gorgeous although the adjacent freeway is a bit noisy. We like to sleep with the windows open and they were very nice for fresh air. The fountain below our room in the patio helped to defer the noise of the traffic. Hopefully the drought conditions will improve to bring more water to the Eel river. It was sad to see it so low.

This old hotel is a classic, reminiscent of when people stayed in one place for a week or so. It has everything one likes and needs--a restaurant, tons of indoor and outdoor places for relaxing, even a piano; and across the highway at their KOA, I'm told there's a pool. Beyond that, it's close enough to Humboldt Redwoods State Park for experiencing a different hike every day, close to the river (The Eel?) and not terribly far from Prairie Creek State Park. I love the feel of an old classic hotel. Apparently, they have live music often. I suggest definitely staying longer than the one day we did.

Although the setting for the restaurant is beautiful, the food was expensive. Still, there are other restaurants just two miles away in Garberville.

It was beautiful the grounds the room was very quaint and quiet.the afternoon time with free tea and scones appreciated the woman at the front desk who was Elk Grove was very sweet to us when we checked out. The parking spot for us was close to front door easy to get in and out with suitcase.

My wife didn’t like the atmosphere she said it was too quiet and no tv and microwave in room was missed. The Historic feel was like a funeral home the breakfast was not free.

Very nice vibe and a different experience, a nice change in comparison with all the regular modern motels. Lots of vintage furniture and decor around the property. The restaurant patio had a great ambiance during sunset hours, really enjoyed sitting there with a glass of wine. Room was cozy - real wooden windows, wallpaper, etc. I especially liked the bathroom. There were also some specials for guests - afternoon tea, happy hour, but I missed those.

I don't mind the absence of a tv, but they could have put a tiny fridge in one of those sideboards in my room. It is not a big deal, but some people might have perishables if they are on a road trip (and I think that most of their guests are). Maybe some rooms do have fridges. Old building has a set of corridors and stairs, there could be a better signage which way to go if you want to reach lawn by the river or restaurant.

The restaurant prepared an excellent dinner (trout almondine was exceptional), and we loved the tea & scones while waiting to check-in. We also enjoyed the historic vibe, and the folks who worked there shared good local knowledge and were all very warm.

It seemed like the place hadn't been deep cleaned in a while. Our room had a few spider webs in corners, and the AC ventilation seemed like it could use a vacuum to get the dust out. I get the price point as the only upscale hotel along that section of the 101 in Humboldt County, and also that it was full due to Northern Lights music festival.

Our Trout Almondine dinner was excellent - -fresh, tasty, & cooked well done, the way I requested. We had a terrific view of the Eel River from our Room 306 on the 4th floor. And, the desk clerk was so accomodating in getting us a bag of ice to take to our room. Additionally, our room was huge and included a comfortable sofa and desk & chair. Beautiful room and lobby and dining room.

Huge spider on the ceiling above the bed where we slept. Unfortunately, the cleaning staff had not vacuumed behind the night-stands next to our large bed ; and they were full of spider webs & spiders. Also, we were only given 1/3 of a roll of toilet paper and no extra roll (fortunately, I brought my own extra roll of toilet tissue. ) There was no facial tissue (Kleenex) in our room. No flexible shower-hose on the shower.

Very much like being a celebrity in the 1920’s. Music flowed throughout the hotel and it was all music from the 1920s era. There are no televisions. The huge great room has seating for doing puzzles, for playing games and cards, for just sitting at the large fireplace and engaging with other guests. The large veranda outside has a fire pit and tables scatter throughout overlooking a beautiful landscaped yard and little Creek. Very peaceful and quiet. Would come back.

The menu is a little pricy but not outrageous. They have a A complementary tea time, serving tea and scones, but it’s from 3 to 4. Would’ve been nice if it was more like 4 to 5.

The inn is just a half hour from Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Everything was run efficiently from start to finish and was very clean, and nothing was broken. The heating and cooling system worked well. My 210 foot "deluxe queen" (room 210) had everything I needed or wanted (except a mini-fridge, which would have made it perfect): bathtub that didn't leak, coffee maker, view of the trees, comfortable bed, adequate storage for toiletires. There was also a luggage rack I could use to help get stuff to my room via the elevator. The inn is also right next to part of Benbow Recreation Area, so after settling in it is easy to do a little stroll to the park or river (where there are picnic tables) before or after dinner or in the morning on a fine day.

1. Food and service at dinner were mediocre (overbaked salmon, overbaked potatoes, generic cheesecake ), for the price charged (though the dining room venue was very nice). Waitress did not seem to be a happy person, and did not apologize for two mistakes she made (but my guess is any staff at all is very hard to come by) 2. If you sit outside (on the terraces or the lawn near the river), there is quite a bit of road nice from Highway 101 (but at night I heard nothing and nothing interfered with sleep) 3. The room had an "old room" funny smell (but fortunately the window opened so I could repeatedly air it out).

This is unexpectedly fancy place in the vicinity of Avenue of the Giants. Old fashioned and historic in the best sense. Rooms are simple and not big but well furnished clean and have all necessary amendments. River (very shallow) is right at the back of the building allowing you to sit in quiet. I even dipped into one of swimming holes. Swimming pool is available - about 5 minutes walk. Also there is nice 20 minutes walk across historic and unused nowadays bridge. Nice restaurant with indoor/outdoor sitting. Food was great!

This hotel was like another world, tucked away in Benbow, CA, and was everything we expected. You can tell it’s an old building, but it’s well maintained. The food at the restaurant was great, with a great view. We stayed here for one night when we were heading up to the Redwood National Parks.

The room was definitely outdated, but it wasn’t a major issue since we only stayed for one night. While the concept of antique rooms is charming, the bathroom could use a more modern touch, especially with improved lighting.
