The staff bent over backwards to make us comfortable. While the hotel is antique it is exceptionally clean. Everything has been thought of. Towels, reading material, coffee, water cooler. The walls are covered with the history of the hotel and it is fascinating. Especially if you are Italian as this is Little Italy. The neighborhood is very quiet.

We knew that we had to share a bathroom. The bathrooms and showers are clean and taken care of - very well. It's just difficult to put all of your clothes and shoes on to visit the restroom. This is no fault of the hotel - but it is the only thing that made us feel a little uncomfortable.

Excellent, excellent location. Far enough from Fisherman’s Wharf to be quiet but so many great neighborhoods in walking distance (we loved North Beach). Trader Joe’s is around the corner so you can stock up on cheap snacks, etc if you’re on a budget. I was apprehensive about the bathrooms but they were always clean and available! There’s also a sink in the room so that was nice. The other guests are mostly from Europe so the vibe is very European. Staff were very friendly!

We stayed longer than most (4 nights) and by then I really found the mattress/pillows uncomfortable. If it had been a shorter trip, I don’t think I’d have noticed. Some rooms do not have exterior windows and I would not book one of those- ours had an exterior wall so not an issue for us.

The hotel was easy to find and in an ideal location for the tourist attractions we were interested in. We were a 5 minute walk to Pier 39 and a 10 minute walk to the Alcatraz ferry. Parking was easy enough in the public lot 2 mins walk from the front door, and although we arrived too late for dinner we found plenty of options available nearby. Staff were especially helpful and nothing we asked for was too much trouble for them. We really liked the decor, the lighting, the library and all the history on the walls.

There wasn't really anything we didn't like about this hotel. The staff said the main issue for travellers was the shared bathroom facilities, but realistically the good points far outweigh that one bad point and for the price we paid we expected small compromises here and there.

It suited our budget. Excellent location...easy walk to Fishermans Wharf and Peir 39 and close to restaurants and bars on Columbus. Good public transport links. Hotel itself is old and the room we were in was small, but it was clean and comfortable. The shared amenities were spotlessly clean with plenty of liquid soap, shampoo, etc. The Reception staff were friendly and helpful. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and if visiting San Francisco again, would happily stay at the San Remo again.

There is a bit of a stale smell when you first open the front door to go up the stairs to Reception...just lack of ventilation I think.

The rooms are small, no aircon and the bathrooms are in the corridors and we LOVED this hotel. Cheapest in the area but also the best. It's an historic old building filled with antique furniture and the rooms have really interesting artifacts on the walls. The location is perfect for walking to Fishermans Wharf and the Embarcadero and the street is quiet and safe. Just around the corner is Trader Joes and along the Street Goodfellas Pizza serving awesome pizzas, get the big slices. We will stay again and again. We also used their taxi to the airport, great service and best price, beat the booking.com price.

Nothing we loved it. Accept that it is an old hotel, bathrooms are in the corridor and the rooms are relatively small, then love it. So much character in this place.

The location is top and I spent generally a very good time at San Remo Hotel. Nice flair of old days in an interesting house. During the night there were some quiet hours, which I appreciated. The shared bathrooms are mostly clean. The price is hard to beat, so close to the Wharf. A Trader Joe's is just down the street. I could walk or bike to most places. Bike rentals and tour offices are nearby. Great! Recommended this hotel to a friend, who just booked. I would stay there again!

It can be noisy, which I knew and used earplugs. Thin walls and windows, who don't close properly (it's an old house). Therefore it can get quite cold in the room during colder seasons. Ask for a heater, they have some! One late night the only person, who was talking loudly was the receptionist. Didn't know why... as they ask guests to be quiet from 10pm to morning!

I loved this hotel. It was an amazing location with a quick walk down to Fishermans wharf (and the head office of the big bus tours) and right above an amazing Italian restaurant. The beds were super comfy and they gave you space heaters if you are like me and not use to the cold. I was put in a room in the centre of the hotel the first night and asked to be moved to a room with an external window, which they were very happy to do. The shared bathrooms are very clean and so pretty and they have all sorts of extra bits and pieces for you to use including mouth wash. The hotel is full of little nick nacks which I loved and I just felt like I was at home. They even have a big coffee and hot chocolate machine where you can grab your free drink every morning. Loved my stay!

Absolutely NO complaints. Loved it all.

loved the location, the restaurant downstairs is great, it’s and easy and safe feeling walk to all of the piers which was great. Felt very central. Room was more spacious than I expected it to be and loved the privacy of having a sink in the room. I had a nice view of the street too and it looked like the other rooms with bay windows were pretty cute!

As expected with a shared shower, there’s gonna be some hair from other guests! Totally fine, just remember to back shower flip flops :) Room was a bit cold in winter (as should be expected) there’s no heating but they offer a little heater if you want to purchase one and they put loadsss of blankets on the bed so it’s super snug! Room was a little noisy due to neighbouring rooms but earplugs fixes that :)

First time I need to write extended.Back to Future III. It is not old, it is really antique, built in 1906, nothing change since. If you like antique stores and flea markets - it's for you. If you from 21 century - value is zero. But it was clean, bed was comfortable. Some rooms have inside hallway windows, so it should be always curtained.

If you pretend to be antique - cable cars and old trams of the city are perfect sample, otherwise it is just old and deteriorated. one style for rooms, furniture I suggest, thanks.

We had read up on this historic hotel before we arrived so knew not to expect lifts or private bathrooms. This was in no way an inconvenience and was a small price to pay for a wonderful few days staying here at the end of January. What an interesting piece of history! We loved the quirkiness, the staff were really friendly, the district very safe, the location fabulous. We stayed in Room 36 with a view over the quiet street. There’s an excellent Trader Joe’s a couple of blocks away so we could get everything we needed. We would definitely return.
