The hotel is located in a vibrant neighbourhood that is safe at night for tourists. It is a small old boutique hotel with a steep narrow stairs but it is spotlessly clean and full of atmosphere. We loved it. It was our first stop, for 4 nights, on our USA trip and it was fun all the way. Breakfst across the street in the El Greco and rub shoulders with locals, with cops and with firemen. Walk a few hundred yards down the street for some of the best Italian food outside of Italy. A magnificant choice of hotel.
The wifi does not extend to all bedrooms and this is a problem for foreign tourists without US data. There is hotspot on the stairs.

We loved our stay at Hotel Boheme so much that we decided to extend it from 4 to 8 nights. We came because of the Beat connection, but the staff at the front desk and the location are the reason we will return. Mary looked after us very well when we had an issue with our room. She made us feel like we were her personal guests and was always attentive and generous. The lady working at the front desk in the evenings (I am so sorry I never asked her name) helped me when I thought I had lost my room key, reassured me it was not too much of an inconvenience for her and made an extra set of keys in no time. Spoiler: I had absent-mindedly used it as a bookmark and later realised it was in my book. Very close to amazing cafés and restaurants. The afternoon sherry is a very hospitable, welcoming touch. Thank you for an amazing stay!
No elevator. We, of course, knew in advance, but it could be an issue with heavy luggage. The internet did not always work the best in our room.

Location - in the heart of 'Little Italy' - lot's of great restaurants and cafe's in the area and easy walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf Welcome - really friendly and helpful staff. The afternoon sherry was a welcome bonus :-) Charm - the Hotel had a quaint charm about it. If you prefer modern hotels then this probably isn't for you.
No coffee making facilities in the room. The system for storing valuables was awkward - a safe in the room would have been a good addition.

Fantastic location in North Beach, close to restaurants, bars, music, and walking distance to Chinatown and Fisherman's Wharf. The entrance is a door between a restaurant and a cafe. When you enter, you will walk a flight of stairs to the reception area and then another flight of stairs to your room. This was good exercise. I am not sure if there is an alternative to stairs. The room does not have A/C, nor did the window open. Thankfully, the weather was cool comfortable not hot. We spent very little time in our room. This hotel is in the heart of activity and we enjoyed that. I did not find it too loud at night considering our location and even my husband didn't find it too loud. It is a city, so some noise can be expected. Very cool photographs of musicians and artists throughout the hotel.
The lack of air conditioning and we could not open the window if we did want some air. If the forecast predicted hot weather, I would have chosen a different hotel.

The location is perfect. Great neighborhood; restaurants (Italian and Chinese) around the corner. Breakfast cafe across the street. And the hotel itself looks great. Union square, fisherman’s wharf and embarcadero in walking distance
There’s no elevator and you need to get up at least one floor. So if you travel heavy or have issues with stairs this is not for you

We loved the atmosphere and the decor of the hotel. The feel was very 'Beat Generation' which we really appreciated, but may not be to everyone's taste. During our stay we were left pretty much alone, which also suits us.
There's nothing that we had any real problems with. The stairs were a bit of a struggle with our cases, but we hadn't realised there wasn't a lift. The taxi ordered by the hotel never arrived to take us back to the station, so we ended up walking - not sure who's to blame for that.

Very nice staff. I arrived earlier than expected and they were able to accommodate me
This is a very unique, comfortable, sort of funky style hotel and that's great Unfortunately it has several floors and there are no elevators. Made it hard to get my luggage upstairs to the second floor. Granted, my suitcase was over packed! Lol

personal service with a smile, a clean room, a very comfortable bed and an overall well maintained boutique hotel; a rare find in San Francisco!
yes it was clearly communicated to us but that did not make the room any bigger than "small", nor the staircase any less steep to climb with our luggage for a full month's US West Coast roundtrip.

Great location, cozy and vintage feel if that's your jam, cool throwback vibe to the beatnik 1950s. Great service and friendly staff. Bed and pillows were surprisingly comfortable.
No air conditioning, the room key is an actual key as well as the key to the entrance -- aligns with the vintage vibe but you have to carry extra keys with you
