The location was perfect for visiting Punalu'u black sand beach and Kilauea Volcano and the National Park. It was about 2-3 miles from the park entrance, and about 30 miles from Hilo. It is in a residential neighborhood at a personal home. There are 2 rooms, each having their own private outside entrances. The room was nicely furnished with a comfortable king size bed, closet, bathroom w/tub shower, and a kitchenette with sink, small fridge, microwave and table with 2 chairs. Breakfast was already in the room for the next morning. The fridge had milk and cream for coffee and cereal, juice and breakfast sandwiches. Near the microwave was oatmeal, cereal and fresh fruit. Muffins and sweet rolls were on the table. Outside was a small patio with a small fire pit overlooking a beautiful, quiet backyard where you could view the stars.

Nothing. Google GPS said we had reached our location before we actually had. Look for the actual address. No street lights on the streets at night so I'm glad we found it before the sun went down.

It mentions a continental breakfast, but it was so much more. Fruit, snacks, oatmeal, excellent coffee, the list goes on. Lovely, quiet neighbourhood, great hosts. Very comfortable bed.

These are not faults - just something people should be aware of. The floors are cold, bring slippers. You are at a much higher elevation, so you need a warm sweater or coat at night. You are in someone's home - you will hear them, and they will hear you. It takes a while for hot water to show up when showering - be patient.

Location was perfect for spending time within Volcano National Park. I appreciated that it was very close to the entrance, but not within the park. Hosts greeted us when we arrived and were very welcoming and warm. Studio was as described and actually better than I had thought. Accommodation was attractively decorated and modern. Breakfast items and snack choices were excellent and abundant. The studio was very quiet and felt private for being attached to the host's home.

I did not have any negative feelings regarding my stay at Kailua House

Breakfast was great- in room pastries, yogurt, oatmeal, granola, fruit, juice, coffee, etc. Location was excellent for visiting Volcanoes National Park, and also only a short drive to the town for restaurants. Hostess was very helpful with suggestions for places to eat, etc. Spotlessly clean. Bed was large and comfortable. Neighborhood was quiet and safe. House and yard were very well kept.

If we had to find something negative, it would be that the TV was rather small to see from the bed, but this was certainly a minor inconvenience.

Pam's attention to detail was incredible. The decor, the cleanliness, the multiple food choices for breakfast. All self contained with private entrance. Extremely convenient to the park, and Dean, a long time Ranger at the parks, helped with hike suggestions. I would recommend this to any couple traveling to Volcano NP. Stay at least 2 nights, so much to see.

Leaving.

Wonderful from the moment we arrived! Pam and Dean are such gracious hosts who are very helpful and knowledgeable of the national park and surrounds. We met their three gorgeous greyhounds who are very loving and always up for a pat. The photos don’t do this place justice and the rooms are just super lovely and cozy. We’ve been travelling for a month and this is the best place we have stayed so far! Nothing was left unthought of and even takeaway cups were available for your morning coffee. We wish we had stayed longer and hope to get back sometime. in a great location only a short drive to the volcano national park and restaurants.

Dean and Pam made our visit exceptional… Conveniently located near the mouth of the volcano national park… Comfortable bedding, updated facilities, and a very relaxing, quiet environment. Plus yummy breakfast nibbles.

While they do not have central AC, it wasn’t necessary since they have nature to cool our room. We just open the slider and listened to the birds and felt the cool breeze. The temperature at that location typically hovers into a fall like weather.

Absolutely meticulous! Host thought of so many thoughtful details to make our stay memorable. A great, peaceful location about 10 min from the NPark. Quality bed and linens. Array of tasty items for breakfast laid out in the room. Even the little “kitchenette” was equipped with very nice plates/silverware/ glasses for eating take out or enjoying a glass of wine around your private fire pit. Pam was super welcoming and friendly and we were glad to have had a chance to talk with Dean before leaving too. It was a bonus to stay with such a knowledgeable host who happens to also be a park ranger! This was by far the nicest stay we had on this trip to the Big Island. We recommend Kilauea House wholeheartedly.

Not a thing!

We loved everything about this place! Peaceful, very well furnished, perfect location (5 minutes apart from Hawaii volcanoes national park), super clean.. everything you can really need during a holiday is provided by the lovely Pam and Dean! Also they gave us very useful highlights for visiting the park during our stay. Continental breakfast was abundant and delicious. We have travelled a lot in the past years, but we can definitely say that Pam and Dean’s bnb is one of the best where we have ever stayed. thank you very much!

nothing! We regret to have just booked for 2 nights actually!

Close to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Even had park brochures in the room and a nene stuffed animal and artwork. The host is nice and greeted us. We didn’t get a chance to meet her husband but he’s a park ranger. The room was well-decorated from the bedding to the furniture and artwork. The room had a nice vanilla scent to it and all the toiletries they provided and soap smelled great. The place was very clean. It was thoughtful to have a bench to sit on, as well as 2 chairs and a table, hooks to hang things, big closet with hangers, portable heater and wall heater, makeup remover wipes and cotton pads, an additional sink outside the bathroom with dishes, utensils, dish soap, drying rack, sponge, garbage disposal, mini fridge, percolator, toaster, microwave. I liked that we had our own entrance and parked right in front of the house, no stairs to walk up. Loved having oatmeal, egg bites, coffee, yogurt, milk, fruit, and orange juice that they provided. We didn’t get a chance to use the outside patio chairs and table but they were nice too. Highly recommend the place and would definitely stay there again.

Could have used another table or shelf because the lazy Susan with the heavy glass lid with the pastries took up the whole table and we had to set it on the floor to get it out out of the way to eat since we had to put the dish rack on the only counter top available.
