Very comfortable bed and rooms. The hotel was quiet and conducive to a good night’s sleep. I appreciated the restoration of the hotel, preserving the great architectural bones while instilling a contemporary vibe, making the atmosphere cozy and relaxing. Great location.

The hotel was understaffed during my visit. No one was at the registration desk when we arrived at 8:30 pm. The restaurant was very busy with 1barista and 1 waitress to cover the whole room for breakfast. It looked like some management staff stepped in to help. Perhaps an express lane for coffee and pastries would help. Bathroom light was tricky.

Beautiful hotel in the middle of the downtown. It’s a ghost town in the evening or weekends. Breakfast is not free. It looks like breakfast cafe do not affiliate with hotel and guests do not have any previliges to be served first. We came close to 9 am for breakfast and cafe was full of people, possibly workers from the business buildings. We went to Starbucks on 12th street. We were lucky to place order quickly then many people showed up. After 9 pm caffe at the hotel was free of people.

Hard to have a breakfast before 9 am and it not free. Location is in the middle of the downtown which is a ghost town in the evening. Nothing else.

What was there not to like about this place? The room was awesome and spacious, the views of the surrounding city were quite nice, and there were options for things to eat and drink all over the place! The receptionist was quite helpful in suggesting places to go around the immediate area. The WiFi was great and the connectivity was strong. It was easily the best night's sleep I've gotten in a hotel room in quite a while.

If I had to pick something, it would have to be the $10 I had to pay for parking. But even then I can't complain because I was able to leave my car there the next morning while I toured the state capitol (the parking was for 24 hours). So that's all I got. My experience was A+ all around!

The hotel is both historic and modern with a spacious lobby, old fashioned elevators, and hallways highlighting Des Moines’ history. We were greeted by a genuinely friendly and helpful front desk staff, which we appreciated at a time when good customer service is hard to come by. The room was spacious, modern, clean and very quiet. It features modern elements like a flat screen TV as well as unique features like an antique style lamp switch and towel hooks. The bed was very comfortable and we had the best night’s sleep of our weeklong trip. The room had no odor and the A/C was quiet and comfortable. The bathroom was clean and featured a walk in shower with good water pressure and an amazing design, along with large, luxurious towels. We took the advice of another reviewer and parked on the street instead of paying for parking.

Guests arriving for the first time must call to access the lobby, at least at night.

Spacious, comfortable room. Liked the bed. The light preventing curtains, which work very well, make the room so dark that at night it’s hard to see my way to the bathroom without a nightlight. Restaurant staff were gracious, efficient, food very good. Front desk staff were outstanding—helped arrange a cab for pickup at 4:30 am for early morning flight, gave helpful information and directions, went above and beyond and were incredibly personable, especially Lucas and Francesca.

Would have liked a nightlight or dim light by door or in bathroom to help see at night when room is totally dark.

we spent a Saturday night recently to attend the farmers market. We loved the rooms, very clean, and the shower was to die for! Very comfy beds and linens.

Due to your superb manager of your restaurant, he made what could have been a negative to an ok situation. It was very busy, and you could tell there wasn't enough help. Colin (not sure on spelling, was what I would call an excellent manager, not only did he mix drinks, take orders, clean tables, he did all this very cool, calm, and collected. He had to deal with a few unhappy customers. So, to the point, you need more help on weekends, my food took forever, and was cold. I didn't complain as I know they did the best they could under terrible conditions. I also heard that there was 1 cook for the whole place?? What is that about? Anyway, all the servers worked together and made it a tolerable situation. Shout out to the whole team!! Sincerely, Julie Rohret

Beautiful, old hotel with gorgeous vintage features, yet the newest updates that blend perfectly with the architecture!. Bed was super comfortable as was bedding & bathroom & shower!

Some staff were rude. One valet was upset my husband needed a luggage cart & asked if he parked in valet. We hadn't. My husband is disabled & has breathing issues & couldn't carry his 40 lb breathing macine & our luggage. Asked valet if it was ok & valet just rudely muttered under his breath & walked away. That exoeruence overrode the pisitives! Especially when we were there to be with my brother having triple bypass surgery. They need to be more respectful & understanding of peoples NEEDS!

The check in was great, because the desk clerks were very hospitable and helpful. The hotel was beautiful and we liked the location. It is in a downtown location, so you may hear loud motorcycles or cars drive by late at night, but the hotel is quiet otherwise. The room is very stylish and nice. The beds have very comfortable sheets and pillows, but the bed was a little too soft. We really liked the soap choice, but would have liked a tub and shower versus shower only. Another chair would have been nice, so there were at least 2 chairs. The curtains were wonderful, because they were beautiful and truly a room darkener.

As mentioned, we would have liked a tub, two chairs and a firmer bed. It would be nice that the room choices included information about having a tub and shower or shower only. The bathroom was very beautiful, but it could have more towel holders and face towels. Otherwise, we think the room and hotel was very nice.

Beautiful Historic property, superbly restored with a lot of period details refreshed and working. Wonderful design and décor decisions. Extremely comfortable and intricate. Large rooms. Good locations.

1. While there is cheap overnight parking next door, it is a minus that hotel itself does not provide parking. 2. While the prebuild fridge box is tall and can fit a fine small fridge with a freezer, the one we found inside the box is smallest type w/o a freezer. This is a negative for warry travelers. 3. Not all staff members were equally welcoming. While nighttime staff were superbly friendly, some members of the stuff daytime were on a rude side.

Great Libby space and quiet well appointed rooms. Super shower design. We arrived too late for the restaurant but went down to speakeasy. Great fun, live music. Ordered a pizza which (when finally delivered!) we ate in lobby with glasses of wine from the speakeasy. Good breakfast restaurant at reasonable prices. Parked in public lot nearby: $10
