We are a family of 4 and I chose a suite. It was so nice to have the extra sofa area, more because it gave us extra room to open out our luggage! The room and bathroom were extremely clean (I read another review with the same comment and that's why I chose this hotel!). There was a single window ac unit and I wondered if it would cool the entire room but, surprisingly, it did the job. I was so glad that there were 2 elevators, one bigger, so that made carrying our 4 pieces of luggage up, so convenient. We were given a room just outside the elevator. So no dragging our luggage down the corridor and upsetting the other guests! The coffee bar was nice.. Limited but nice.. Just enough to get the day started or as a break when we got back after hours of walking! Located a stone throw from the metro station helped so much. We changed 2 our 3 trains to get to the hotel, but that didn't matter much. Many restaurants close by. In all, I'd stay here again the next time I'm in NYC!

I think the reception staff needs some cheering up!😂 It's not a face I'd like to see as soon as I walk into a hotel!

I liked that it was really convenient to get into times square without being in the hustle and bussle of it all - just two stops away on a train. It also had a great diner next door and the room was spacious and comfy for the few days we were here. Plus it had a full-size fridge which was good to store food in!

We had no control over the heating (not their fault, it's an old building thing), so it was always roasting. There's aircon attached to the window but then you're freezing. Also one of the desk clerks was pretty rude, and just sat and watched me struggle get through the door with my suitcases without even trying to help. Others were nice though. It's very no frills - no breakfast or kettle in the room, but there is hot water/coffee available in the lobby.

I liked that we had two queen beds with four pillows per bed. Also liked the additional space with a kitchenette with a good size counter. Nice microwave, mini fridge and small sink was in our room. Has a nice size TV which we rarely used. The window air conditioner unit worked well. It supplied white noise for all of us which helped us sleep better. Our room was cleaned daily with fresh towels. The sheets and bedspreads were clean and comfortable. It had nice toiletries and a hair dryer in the room. Our room had three large mirrors. (A plus for four women) We used the coffee station set up in the lobby everyday. Also served individually wrapped cookies and fresh bananas daily. Good working ice machine and vending machines were also located in the lobby. Love the location to the subway and the Manhattan Diner was a nice place to have a meal or coffee and dessert. The price we paid for three nights was great for our girls Christmas trip to New York City. This is a quiet, family friendly hotel and we would stay at the Hotel Newton again.

Our mattresses squeaked a little and we would have liked larger pillows. The bathroom could use some minor updating. The toilet seat needed to be replaced and the double shower head needed some maintenance. If we used the hand held shower head, the main shower head would leak and spray around the base. The porcelain bathtub had two tiny chips which needed reglazing. Even though the bathroom needed some updating it was very clean throughout our stay. The upholstery on the chair seat by the desk needed to be repaired. It was worn and had a small rip.

You cannot beat the price! We got two nights, and felt like home. The hotel is a 5-minute walk from Central Park and 1-minute walk from Subway with express trains to pretty much anywhere in the Downtown. There is coffee, cookies and apples available 24/7. The room had a fridge and a microwave - perfect for staying with kids! The room was decent size for 4 of us!

It was a little too hot (I saw that concern from other reviewers when booking). It wasn't unbearable so we did nothing about that but I'd appreciate some breath of air. The room wasn't sparkling clean (there was quite a bit of dust behind the bed)

Old building and installations, noise from the street is not properly isolated due to old windows. I requested for a taxi to the staff, in order to go to the airport, but they called an Uber (or another company), quite more expensive. I payed 100$ aprox. It's too much, and a dirty practice. I was traveling with my children and I prefer to pay than having a confrontation.

Staff was pleasant and efficient - stored my luggage until check-in time. Easy subway and bus access with safe access at this busy location. Room was larger than expected with dresser AND desk, refrigerator, microwave, hair dryer, iron & board. Good water pressure for shower on a high floor. Clean but dated decor. 24-hour coffee in lobby. Easy entrance from street with ramp instead of steps for those who need it or if you are rolling luggage. Wasn't sure what to expect of a modest hotel in this upper West Side location, but was pleasantly surprised.

Small lobby wasn't a problem for me but could be for some. Electrical sockets not readily accessible in room - they were near desk and bed but had to move furniture to plug in electronics.

The hotel location is very good, it's a few blocks away from Central park and 20 minutes by foot from Natural history museum. It has a metro station just a few steps off the hotel door an the metro station is wheelchair (and stroller) accessible. Also the hotel is accessible to, as there were no stairs at all to reach the room, one of the elevators was really spacious and rooms are also bigger than normal for Manhattan. Which leads to other positives: spacious room, a little two seat sofa in a small lounge area, kitchenette with a mini fridge and microwave. Bathroom was also very comfortable. Room is clean, although fully carpeted, and windows furnished, so keep in mind if you have dust allergies. Toiletries were also nice, I loved the soaps - such a nice scent and contains glycerin, so it didn't dry out my usually dry hands at all. Shampoo and conditioner were also nice, I think it was a Babor brand if I remember correctly. And one thing that surprised us the most was that even though we stayed only for two nights, our room was fully cleaned after the first night and towels changed, so it was a very nice tough in a family room (kids can get messy). Our luggage was also stored for no additional price until we returned from our last sightseeing after the morning checkout. If you expect a modern, recently renovated room - you will not find it here, but if you are ok with a little old school interior (which adds to the charm in my opinion), then you will not be disappointed.

The window AC, although operational and very welcome while the heatwave, was in need of serious filter clean, as it was visibly dirty. Also, the AC is right at the bed, so my daughter who slept there had an actual sore throat the next morning. There is also no kettle in the kitchenette, so if you need to get coffee in the morning, you have to go down into the lobby, which is not very comfortable and actually unusual.

Junior suite on 9th floor was perfect for us. The air conditioner was not too noisy. The location is half block rom the W. 96th St Metro subway station, which features two expresses running North/South.

The only deficiency is the weak water pressure and slow to arrive hot water (we've stayed here previously and it is stronger on lower floors). Window with the air conditioner is not operable. Only the bathroom window opens.

Great hotel, right next to the subway on the Upper West Side. Friendly staff, in the morning they provide coffee, cookies and bananas for guests. The room was super clean and had a bathtub, a fridge, a modern TV, a closet with hangers for our clothes and a suitcase holder. WiFi worked perfectly. Overall I really enjoyed it and would stay again.

The bed could be improved, it was a little noisy. The mattress and duvet were not very soft.

Allowed to check in early. Cleanliness of hotel. Comfortable bed. Coffee / tea making facility in lobby with cookies and bananas. Vending machine in lobby. Tourist maps and leaflets available. Helpful staff. Subway station across the road for lines 1, 2, 3. Excellent diner next to the hotel for eat-in or takeaway. 10-minute walk to Central Park.

Hotel and furniture in room were a little old-fashioned. Some street noise. Away from main tourist sites but subway links were excellent.
