The room that I finally received was very nice and what I expected from the original booking.

The original room posted on booking.com was nothing like the room we received. Our room was a small cramped box' tucked away in a corner that you would not expect in a hotel with such eloquent features. Upon arrival we were impressed with the look and feel of the hotel only to be totally disappointed and a bit shocked when we saw our room. After accessing the situation we immediately informed the front desk of our disappoint and was offered another room at an additional cost. Be mindful of how these rooms are advertised as they look great on paper but may be totally different once you arrive.

The building itself is very pretty, the interior is absolutely beautiful and leans completely into the theme they are going for. It's well decorated and well presented. The staff is friendly and very accommodating for any requests. The food was good and the bar was pretty cool, did not try the pool but the pool area was really well kept.

There are two distinct "towers" of rooms. The photos on Booking.com that show a really modern, sleek look are the rooms in the "Historic Tower" area of rooms. The rooms in the "Manor" are much more of a standard 2.5 star hotel room setup. Don't get me wrong the "Manor" rooms are fine, they're decent décor however they are not the "roaring 20's" vibe that the hotel and the website bang on about and overall it's just not quite how the photos on this website are presented it felt a little like a bait and switch.

The location of the Read House was perfect for downtown Chattanooga. I could walk to the major attractions. There were several wonderful restaurants for breakfast and dinner nearby. The ambiance of the property was lovely -- beautiful chandeliers, fun library, pool lounge, wonderful 1920s-30 music. Staff was friendly, polite and helpful.

Bathroom could use some remodeling as the tub was worn and caulking was a bit dark in the corners. Also, pillows and mattress were lumpy. Despite the need for some updates, the room was comfortable and spacious.

There’s a lot of allure to the Read House. When researching where to stay for a business trip, the photos online stand out and I was curious to explore this hotel. They have a beautiful lobby, ball rooms and hallways. My room was very spacious and quiet. The parking valet was quick and convenient. That being said, I want to end this on a good note. The restaurant is very nice and classy. Alan, the bartender is a wonder of the world. He was full of great stories and service. Coming here to see him makes it all worth it. It was nice to have a warm pool as an option and an operating gym in a historic hotel, which isn’t common. Definitely a good 4/5 in my experience but I imagine others would definitely give a 5/5. Some of the downside in my personal experience was that you have to request things to be brought up to your room, meaning extra blankets or robes (that are typically already in the room) and food delivery. There is no room service during the week… at all. That really surprised me. I didn’t love having to order out and then coming downstairs to fetch it when the whole point was to avoid social interaction / privacy. The room that I stayed in the tower seemed a bit dated. And the water pressure is okay, the temperature takes a while to warm up. Definitely a good 4/5 in my experience but I imagine others would definitely give a 5/5. Thank you Read House.

Barking dog. People HAVE to bring their pets with and then leave them in the room alone. BARKING constantly! Rethink pet policy.

We loved the decor, classy but modern. The history was intriguing. The beds were amazing...so comfortable and the pillows were equally plush. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We dined at Bridgemans and it was superb and convenient. We leveraged the Starbucks for breakfast. My girls enjoyed the pool one evening...a big plus. And lastly we required assistance to and from our room because we were traveling with my elderly mother. The valet staff were so helpful and quick to help with luggage and retrieve the car. We will stay here again and recommend to friends and family.

The fresh baked pastries for breakfast. The beautiful, historical architecture. The location was conveniently right down the street from all the nightlife.

When booking the hotel, the amenities included a complimentary robe and slippers. It was never provided, and when I inquired about them, I was told they didn't see that on my reservation. Again, it was included with the list of amenities. Least of my worries, but for the high price of the room, it seemed reasonable that they would provide these for guests.

Loved the decor and location of the Read House. The staff was friendly and helped out. David at the front desk was patient and very gracious in his time to give me locations to eat and take our dog.

Having just one elevator during our stay proved to be quite the task. A few times, we ended up taking the stairs up to the 7th floor. I enjoy writing and getting some work done, but the absence of a desk area made it challenging. Room #703 was spacious enough, so next time, I'll make sure to ask for a room with a work desk. If that's not an option, we might consider staying at a different hotel.

The location was excellent! Within walking distance of a lot of great restaurants & bars. The Read House had a great bar as well as a steak house (Bridgeman's Chophouse). The room was nice and clean, and the bed was comfy. Parking was inexpensive. The Read House is also close to many great attractions, like Ruby Falls, the incline railway, and the Chattanooga Whiskey Experimental Distillery. There's a Starbucks on site, but there's also Peet's Coffee just across the way. Here's a list of great places to eat/drink within walking distance: Pickle Barrel, Tupelo Honey, The Social, Public House, Slim & Husky's Pizza, Champy's, The Bitter Alibi.

Bridgeman's Chophouse was expensive, which is to be expected at a swanky hotel; but the steaks were bland. I had the prime center cut NY strip & my wife had the hand cut ribeye, both cooked to medium. Salt was lacking. Definitely needed the truffle butter & Maytag blue cheese. The cocktails were excellent, however. As were the white truffle mac & cheese.

Everything was delightful and decorated for Christmas. Location was convenient to the electric buses which were a bonus. Felt the food service could have been better and it would have been nice to have breakfast included in our stay. Had lobster bisque one evening and was ill the next two days with gastro issues. Not sure if it was food poisoning but I had all the symptoms. We ESPECIALLY enjoyed the Haunted 311 Room tour given by John who is a talented actor.

I would like to see more food service choices available. Liked most everything about the Hotel. I like historical properties and this certainly fit the bill.
