The staff spoke fluent English, making it the easiest hostel to communicate with compared to others I've stayed at in Uzbekistan. They also provided a very useful map and recommended many good restaurants. The hostel has a public common area in the courtyard where you can meet travelers from different countries. The dorm room was very clean, and the beds and lockers were new, just like in the photos. The breakfast was also delicious, with a kind of jam made from local fruits, which was very impressive. It's only a few minutes' walk to the famous attractions, making it perfect for solo travelers in Samarkand!

There was only one bathroom in the dorm room, so you often had to wait.

Hands-down one of the best hostels that I have stayed at! Great staff and friendly receptionists, they provided me with a lot of recommendations and were quick to help out if I needed any assistance navigating Samarkand. A printed map and a list of recommendations (restaurants and places to visit) were provided to me when I checked in. The location is superb and a walking distance to a lot of attractions. I stayed in a clean 8 bed dorm, the bed was comfortable and the room was spacious enough to accommodate 8 people. A big breakfast was served every morning (eggs, pancakes with jam, veggies and melon slices along with coffee or tea). There's an outside communal area where you can meet other backpackers and travelers. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone going to Samarqand.

The only drawback is that the room has only one toilet which is not a lot for 8 people.

The Old Radio Hostel was the best accommodation on one of my trips through Central Asia. It's a very social hostel and makes it super easy to get to know people. The common area in the courtyard is really nice and you enjoy spending time there. You have everything you need in the shared room. Curtain on the bed, own light, shelf and power socket. The locker was also very large, so that even a rucksack fitted in. Wifi was also very good. The breakfast was really good. There were eggs, pancakes, fruit, vegetables and tea. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The hostel was also in a good location. It's only a few minutes' walk to the Registan and the Bibi-Khanum mosque is in the immediate neighbourhood. I really enjoyed my stay at the Old Radio Hostel.

This is the first ever review I’ve ever left, so that should say something about how much I appreciated this hostel. The owner was so incredibly friendly, with impeccable English, which was greatly appreciated since my Uzbek is non-existent. He handed out a paper map when I checked in with significant tourist sites but also recommended shops and restaurants starred, and I referred to that paper map way more than I would have expected to, even with gps on my phone. His list of local restaurants was spot on, especially for samsa, but even the included breakfast was lovely and there was so much food! There was actually ample hot water which was super impressive considering 8 people were sharing one shower, and the trash in the bathroom was constantly being emptied (important when you can’t flush toilet paper)

If I had to say something, I’d say that the mattresses were a bit thin, and the ladders up to the top bunk were a bit difficult to maneuver. But didn’t matter at all with all the positives.

Sherzod is a wonderful host who provided us with a very detailed review of all the top locations in Samarkand. The hostel is very beautifully designed and I really loved the aesthetic of the private room that we booked which was personally designed by Sherzod. The hostel is family run and we were lucky enough to have breakfast cooked by Sherzod's mom. We also were lucky enough to meet his Dad who was really friendly. We also had a very early checkout because of the time of our train and Sherzod and family were nice enough to provide us an early breakfast. A very big thank you to the entire Old radio team for their wonderful service which resulted in Samarkand becoming my favourite city in Central Asia. Old radio is amazing and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Samarkand. A very big thank you to Sherzor and family for being such a wonderful host.

We liked everything there.

We stayed at Old Radio Hostel for two days and were very satisfied. This hostel has a lovely courtyard covered with ivy, creating a cozy atmosphere for relaxation. The breakfasts were hearty and delicious, giving us a great start to each day. The location of the hostel is excellent – it’s just a 5-minute walk to Registan Square, and all the main attractions are within walking distance. The staff were pleasant and responsive, always ready to help and answer any questions. The interior of the hostel is decorated in a vintage style, which adds a special charm to this place. Definitely recommend visiting!

The hostel is very well set-up You'll be provided with a map on arrival, which is very useful. The hostel manager Sherzod has been very helpful and flexible with payment options, allowing travelers to use online banking if short on cash. I transferred my payment using Wise. My room is very lovely. I had a good rest and also slipped in daily siesta in the afternoon before casually strolling over to the most beautiful Registan Square every evening for sunset, blue hour, and after-sunset light show. This location is superb. You're literally in the middle of all the sites, and the market is just down the road. The street it's on is so chill, the road is closed off for cars, so people just stroll around up and down that road quietly. It's a very relaxed scene. The hostel is always kept very clean. We were all so well fed every morning, and breakfast was always a time for good conversations. I met many lovely travelers just at breakfast.

Guests sometimes talk till late (near midnight ) in the courtyard at night, which was not considerate of them for others who need to sleep.

We loved this place! The owner was super helpful and friendly. Since the yandex app did not work for us, he ordered yandex for us via his app from and to train station, thanks to which we did not overpaid for taxis. The room was spacious and comfortable. The small yard was beautiful and provided great shadow from the heat. Breakfast was delicious, and you could even choose between fried eggs or scrambled eggs. And the pancakes with marmelade after were a great finish :) you can also leave your luggage here safely after check out. This is a community hostel where travelllers meet and chat in the yard, so if you want piece, maybe choose a different place, but we loved chatting a bit to fellow travellers! For the price, this is more than great!!!

The only small thing is that there is no daylight in the room, as the windows are facing the yard.

Although a bit hidden (not in one of the main streets but well signalized enough) the hostel is conveniently located a few blocks from Registan Square. There are also cafes, restaurants, drugstores etc in this central region of the city. The host, Sherzod, provides the guest with a print map of the city, with the main attractions spotted (and also ATMs, restaurants etc). Listen to him, his tips are really good. One of the restaurants he suggested served the best meat I have ever eaten. And he has tips for everything, from cafes to nightclubs. The breakfast is served individually, and consists of eggs, sausage, two slices of bread, cucumber, tomatoes, cheese, jam, tea or coffee and juice. The dorm had enough room for luggage and shoes, and the beds were protected by curtains. Each bed had a lamp and a power source. Final tip: don't accept the overpriced offers of taxi drivers when leaving the train station. It is possible to get the tram that stops right in front of it for just 2000 UZs (1 BRL, 0,20 USD). The tram goes up to Siyob Bazar. From this last stop to the hostel it is just a ten minute walk. Ask around in the train station to make sure you are catching the right tram.

The hostel is located in a small street, your taxi will have to drop you off at the end of the alley and you have to finish the last 50 meters by foot. It can be a bit tricky to find it, so if you see a board indicating "Hotel Old Street", it's in the same street ! The big advantage of being deep into the small streets is that it’s extremely quiet during the night, and it is yet extremely well situated because you can access the big touristic street "Tashkent Road" by using a small gate, 5 minutes to the bazar or the registan. If needed there are a lot of mini-markets around. When I arrived the check-in was quick, plus the staff speaks a very good english and give you a list of restaurants and cafes. I was in the 8 beds shared-room. The room is nicely decorated, even with 8 beds it is arranged in a way that you have space to move and you can put your luggage next to the beds on the side. A thick brown curtain is here for your privacy. I really appreciated that the lights in the rom have 3 options (bright, medium and dim). Plus each bed have an outlet and a bedside light. I had a nice breakfast with eggs (omelett, fried or scrambled), sausages, tea or coffee, pancakes, biscuits. There is a washing machine in the bathroom. Also a tip for the bathroom, for hot water turn the tap to the right (even if the blue line is on the right side and the red one on the left). Sherzod was also very helpful when I left. He quickly booked a taxi because I had been waiting mine for more than 10 minutes.
