The Prince of Wales is as spectacular and special as we had heard! Eye-popping location (reminded me of Hogwarts, standing out isolated on the side of the mountain) on Waterton Lake was just magical. Like most of the old national park lodges, the rooms in the PoW are not huge and the bathrooms are smallish but anyone who books at the lodges knows they will trade off luxury for history and atmosphere! We had a room that opened onto the incredible lake view. We enjoyed hanging out in the lobby with its floor-to-ceiling windows onto that view, and enjoyed dinner in the smaller of the two restaurants. The staff were all super friendly and helpful university students. So much to see in the area! We loved the nearby Bison Paddock (though the bison were shy the day we went), Cameron Lake (where we had a lesson on bears! and a picnic lunch), Red Rock Canyon Parkway and the Canyon Loop hike,
We skipped the (pricey) buffet breakfast in the restaurant and went for coffee and a muffin each day of our stay, purchased from the tiny coffee shop. Two things were annoying. First the selection was pretty limited. Second, the young woman working the cash register asked every customer to leave a tip. Super tacky.

Very traditional historic hotel and a great experience staying there with the kids - such a beautiful location too. I used to live in Calgary and had seen the hotel a few times but never stayed there so travelling to Banff with the family from Colorado was a great opportunity to stay - Waterton is a lovely town too. Staff were all very helpful and pleasant, enjoyed our time there. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. Daughter even played a song on the piano in the reception area, that was lovely!
I would have liked a kettle in the room but borrowed one from reception to make tea. Had to use the stairs as the lift was limited use (had to get someone to operate it which I understand) and we were all fine with using the stairs anyway. I had a problem booking online with my Canadian debit/credit card so had to get the manager to sort out the payment using that and crediting my USA visa and it took some time to sort out but we got there!

First of all: Staff very helpful and friendly.
The hotel is very old, which causes some restrictions. We had a corner room on the fourth floor with a view of the lake, a priceless view. However, it is very windy at the lake and the windows are leaky, so it was cold in the room at single-digit temperatures. The room heating is also old, so the reception helped us out with a fan heater. This also worked until the next room was occupied.....also with a fan heater. The power line couldn't take the strain, so the fuse blew three times in one night. Nevertheless, the technician was very helpful. In summary, Waterton is well worth a visit.

The lake views were great! Our 5th floor view was a blessing to us. As an older couple we appreciated the anchient elevator rides and the construction attributes of the building. The evening story time by staff was interesting. We took the time to explore the falls and the township for a meal and were glad we did. Staff was kind and effective.
The web page Booking.com showed us a lakeview room at the same price as the mountain view. We chose the lake view but when the system booked our room it switched it to a mountain view room. The issue was resolved by the hotelstaff on arrival but it was frustrating to get a "bait-and switch" from the web page.

What a wonderful experience. It's hard to imagine visiting Waterton without staying here. The stunning, historic hotel overlooks the town below and has stunning views of the mountains and lake. They've done a really nice job of keeping it very authentic and charming, while adding updates to make it more comfortable (the bathrooms are nicely renovated). Each evening at 8 p.m., one of the employees does a historic talk, explaining the history of the hotel. The staff are all very lovely. The location is wonderful. If you choose to walk into town, it's about 15-20 minutes. This is a great place to stay for a weekend away. I appreciate that they have kept the incredible, authentic atmosphere. For anyone wanting to visit, come with an open mind and realize you're in for a special experience.

History, view from lobby, story time at 8pm, hospitality of hotel staffs, worry-free parking
There are not any handles are installed inside of shower door, so I have to open and close the door by using my fingers to hold screws of handle which installed on the other side of glass door. I think because of plumbing system, when you move shower faucet handle to hot water, it will take 2-3 mins to "receive" hot water. Also, I hope next time during check-in, front desk can ask guest whether they need a kettle in the room. Of course, hope the hotel history book in each room can be free instead of $20 CAD if you want to take home.

The historical features are maintained. Rooms are small but in good condition; bathrooms are updated. Food was excellent.
Historical elevator was slow; had to wait for an employee to come over to operate it. I made the three room reservation a year ago with all people having the same name. With a year to prepare it seems like they could have put all three family members near one another or at least on the same floor.

Location, and design/style of room/hotel. The food was excellent (restaurant), definitely a mix of flavors in every menu option.
Need a little more shelving in the bathroom or some kind of storage. The insulation between rooms is a little light, can hear neighbors. A small refrigerator would have been nice also. The exterior concrete and patio walls all need re-done - walkways boarded up, patios not in use and walls falling apart.

The entire setting of that property is very historic and fascinating. Restaurant had excellent quality meals. Even though the elevator was busted, the staff was very helpful in delivering luggage to the rooms.
The exterior of the property needs much work and repair, although I'm sure it's difficult to maintain an old wood structure in that climate. There was some rotting wood on the 5th floor's room's balcony.

We had a couple of rainy windy days, so it was nice to play games in the lobby and take in the incredible view. We also enjoyed tea time. The hotel was mostly staffed by young adults who were only working for the summer, but they were delightful!
The rooms have not changed much in the last 100 years. It's part of the charm of the hotel. The beds and the rooms were clean - just small. Regardless, I would recommend it.
