We had a wonderful stay at El Establo. We stayed for 4 nights and loved it.The rooms are a fantastic size, as was the bathroom. The room was very comfortable and clean, and there was daily housekeeping to maintain the high standards. We particularly enjoyed happy hour up by the pool - this is a beautiful setting to see golden hour, and I recommend the heaven cocktail. There is a rich variety of wildlife on site - we saw lots of birds, coatis daily and even saw an armadillo as we lazed by the pool. It's also a great location to get to all 3 reserves if you are going offsite to activities. The staff were incredibly helpful and couldn't do enough for us. Thank you for such a great stay.

It is on the pricey end and breakfast certainly could be improved for the price (I asked for butter on my toast, but they didn't have any). The shuttle service was usually relatively prompt other than the final day where it took 10mins. This was a shame as we had all our luggage and were under a bit of time pressure to make our onward journey. It was a particular shame as a bus passed us, but didn't stop for us, despite signalling. However, this was only on one occasion and the other times, we only had to wait 2-3 mins for a bus.

I was a bit apprehensive about this resort after reading some negative reviews, but I was very pleasantly surprised! The rooms are huge. They are an older style so more basic but still nice. Just make sure you don’t leave any food or soft drinks as small ants appear quickly (and disappeared equally quickly if you remove the cause). Our introduction to the resort was excellent, explaining why the lights are low, that the hot water takes 30 minutes to regenerate (which we never had an issue with as a family of 4) and the activity options. The grounds are huge and we saw lots of agoutis and cotis. Loved the pool and going for an early morning walk, probably should have done their guided tour. It’s also a fairly short (though hilly) walk into town. Definitely recommend asking for a room close to the reception so you don’t need to bother with the shuttle.

We enjoyed the location. I had an emergency health situation. The staff assisted my wife in getting a doctor and then an ambulance to be transferred to San Jose. The staff assisted in loaded our luggage and vacating the rental car which we abandoned due to the emergency. The car rental agency picked up the car assisted by the hotel staff. The staff if not trained to assist in this situation, performed their participation very professionally and added comfort and support. I cannot thank them enough. While I speak fluent Spanish, my wife does not. They were able to assist her regardless. Pura Vida. Muchas gracias. Y que Díos los Bendiga siempre.

The location, the nature surrounding the property, the views to the Golfo de Nicoya

The blinds of the back doors were not in optimal conditions, the windows of the bathroom were open and had no blinds, that made it easy for some unwanted crawlers to get in the room. There was only a small window open through the back door, that one had a screen to prevent unwanted visitors, but it was too small and that made the room feel way too hot in the middle of the night. There were no elevators for those who find it difficult to climb the stairs.

Beautiful views. Very comfortable beds with good pillows. Awesome breakfast buffet with cook to order grill. Great wildlife spotting.

Very dim, just little sconces. No AC or heat. Rice on the floor from last guests which led to lots of ants. Need to replace carpet with solid floors. There are ventilation windows in the bathroom and shower that open to the hallway so everyone can hear you in the bathroom and shower. Wi-fi connection was terrible. Just feel that it was very expensive for the experience.

Beautiful green surroundings with many facilities, including a swimming pool, tennis court, two restaurants, fitness center, mini soccer field for kids, a small park with swings, and ziplining. There are shuttle buses that run between all the facilities, but it is advisable to have a car since the hotel complex is large, and you wouldn't want to wait for the shuttle bus. Breakfast is very extensive, ranging from local dishes to American options. The rooms are spacious and lovely. The staff was very friendly and took their time to explain everything.

There was an unpleasant smell in our bathroom every morning. Not enough lighting in the rooms

great location. views were excellent. spa was relaxing and good massages- although you could gather they were inexperienced.

just need more clear information about location of reception desk- it is the second building up the hill. we arrived at night, and strung out from the long winding 2.5 hrs spent on road 145…so that’s our excuse. the hotel is on a steep hill that is no joke- if you’re staying in rooms 100-300, be prepared for a good short hike to the restaurant. main restaurant dinner was overpriced, as typical for hotel-based eating locations, with fair quality of food and marginal menu selection.

The view from the room was very nice across the gardens. On the clear mornings you could see the ocean. The breakfast was good and quite a lot of choice. The room was large and airy with TV and channels in Spanish and English. Staff were helpful and were had a lot of local information. The property has some trails in the forest that are not too hard to walk and we went during the day light hours and with a guided night tour that you can book at reception. We also booked a birdwatching tour for our last morning

We were warned but the WiFi was patchy in the room at best, but OK in the main building. Didn't really affect us too much as we were on vacation but if you are working it maybe an inconvenience. They said they were working on the issue so this might be irrelevant when you read this.

The room was like a picture in a catalog. The staff members are seen doing various jobs through out the stay. One day the person who checked you in could be your tour guy the next day or even that same night. Our the lady who dropped you off in your room can be throwing you off the Tarzan jump but also check you in for breakfast next morning. Because of this I felt comfortable seeing the same faces throughout my stay. Hospitality is above and beyond. They make everything easy and throughout the stay. From excursions, a ride, reservations, etc. The breakfast is fresh and full of options. I more thing I loved is that an ac wasn’t needed because the room stays so cool from being so high up. I couldn’t get enough of the sound of the nature in the night and the morning. The views were breath taking.

The only things that bothered me was that the door to the balcony was very screechy when trying to open it and since we stayed in the honeymoon suite it was difficult not to wake my partner up early in the morning when I wanted to catch the sunrise.

The view from our room was beautiful. The staff was very friendly and we were able to schedule hikes and zip lines same day. We saw some amazing birds on the guided day hike. The zip line view was beautiful.

The rooms were are not sound proofed, so we could hear everything out neighbors were doing. The dinner at the restaurant was not very good. The service was terrible and the food was bland. Breakfast was really good, but really chaotic with all of the tours.
