This wonderful little hotel was just perfect for the two nights we stayed. Our hosts went above and beyond to make sure my party of 6 were completely spoilt and they loved it!. The honour bar was well stocked, the home cooked dinners were superb and the breakfasts were tasty. Our rooms were clean and comfortable. Overall I would describe 14/18 as welcoming, homely and comfortable.
I liked everything - no complaints, not one!

Very friendly host. Diner and breakfast were delicious. We have tremendously enjoyed the museum created by Marteen and Didi.
The temperature in the room was rather low. The shower had a very low water flow and the toilet was noisy which is a problem at night. However the warm welcome and the friendliness of the host made up for this. This is a special place because of the museum and the knowledgeability of the hosts. So we did not mind and would come again.

The owners Maarten & Didi have done a great job already after having moved to these new premises only eight months ago ! We wanted to catch a glimpse of WWI history in this area and using their hotel as our base proved to be a good choice ! Arriving in the afternoon (no problem to park the car next to the hotel in this sleepy town) after having crossed beautiful sunny French countryside, we were able to get a cold (non) alcoholic drink from the fridge (self-service / pricelist available) or you could make your own cup of coffee or tea. Nice small terrace in front of hotel were locals smile and wave at you :-) ! Bedrooms on first floor. Spacious. No luxury, but sufficient for our needs: shower, toilet, bed. Good and clean, but keep in mind: work in progress at this stage ! Dont expect TV. And WIFI is not state of the art. But that was not what we were looking for...Meals by Didi ? EXCELLENT French orientated 3 course diner at very reasonable rate (with nice bottle of wine to go along) ! In these parts of France its hard to find an alternative restaurant nearby, so we would strongly recommend to let Didi prepare your diner ! Buffetstyle breakfast which proved to be a good start of the day. During the day, the dining/breakfast area can be used to spend your time relaxing, reading or get a drink. Maarten is the expert on WWI. Being from The Netherlands (neutral during WWI) our personal knowledge of WWI is more limited than that of WWII. Normally just crossing this area to get to Spain asap. Now time to pay our respect to all those men who gave their lives in the trenches of Northern France. To get some idea of what went on in this area, we visited Butte the Vauquois and Douaumont Ossuary and felt very humble. Verdun is about 30km east of the hotel. Maarten can arrange tours and be your guide. Recommended !
Nothing. Except we could not taste more of the meals Didi prepared ! And that Maarten's museum, specialized in WWI history (on the same premises) was not ready yet ! So we need to come back sometime ! But thats not negative, thats something to look forward to ! We wish them all the best in fulfilling their dream !

- Dede enquired what we wanted to eat during our stay and catered for our food wishes. Nice home cooking. - Very interesting WW1 Museum (substantial private collection of battlefield pick ups) included in back of hotel - Quiet and homely, one is made very welcome.
- No wifi connection in our room, only covered downstairs.

We were retracing my wife’s grandfather’s WWI diary. This property served as a perfect base. The owner Maarten Otte is the author of several WWI guidebooks and served as our guide during our three day visit. There are not many dining options in the area so we ate breakfast and dinner. The food was great.

The hosts are truly friendly and helpful. Didi cooks excellent dinners and the locality is truly quite and peaceful. It's also a very good base for anyone wishing to visit WW1 monuments and battlefields.
