The Altora was perfect for us in every way. We loved the quaint look of the place and enjoyed the novelty of drinks being served to tables via a model steam train and the food was hearty and tasty. It has that rare mix of cosy traditional style, but with all modern facilities in our room. When we needed help sorting out our daily plans, all the staff were both friendly and efficient . We came from England by train, so the location was perfect for walking into the wonderful town and it's walking distance for rail and bus travel - a free bus pass was provided for all journeys in the Harz region- highly recommended!

comfortable traditional railway themed hotel opposite the steam locomotive station where trips to the Brocken start. A great place for enthusiasts of this topic. Nice restaurant with good local food and great idea of free drinks vouchers if you do not need room cleaning. very close to old town and markets

with the windows open (and in the summer without air conditioning it is necessary) a lot of noise from the street. For railway enthusiasts, even the smell of steam locomotive exhaust ;-)

A nice warm room, on the ground floor, giving a view of the railway yards and sheds. A walk across the street gives great photo opportunities. Easy to find, good car park, and a short walk into town.

Great lack of professionalism from the restaurant staff, especially in table booking and breakfast service. There is supposed to be a table booking system, but it seemed ineffective as people continued to sit and drink after their meal, Food which is supposed to be hot (eg scrambled eggs and sausages) wasn't. Coffee was not made fresh, but standing in flasks, hence only slightly warm. When they ran out of tea, nobody had the initiative to go out to supermarket and buy some more! The staff could do with being educated that there is more to being customer focused than clearing empty dishes!

Breakfast was great very large selection of choices, Room was a fair size with enough room, it`s location is just a short walk from the railway station and if you get a front room you can see the steam locos and national railway across the road, short walk into town centre, this was my 3rd time staying here over several visits to the area.

Fantastic location for steam buffs to be able to see up to 5 steam engines from my bedroom window (room 105) was heaven for me. Also a short walk to the historic town centre with it's medieval buildings

The Wifi was a little flaky and I would have liked coffee making facilities in my room

All was good. Free drink for non-room service was a winner. Train delivery for drinks all a happy event.

Room 207 - good room, but needs an anti-slip mat for the bath (when used as a shower) plus two grab rails (more safe for older people).

Well located particularly for visiting the Hartz Mountain Railway or traveling by train being less than 5 minutes from the station for both railways. The hotel is only a short walk from the centre of Wernigerode. The room was warm and comfortable with good en-suite facilities. For the railway enthusiast the rooms at the front of the hotel overlook the locomotive depot of the HSB, which is quiet overnight.

For train-travellers and train-lovers, the location of the hotel was excellent, being 5 minutes walk from the station with a view of the track. It was also very accessible to the town centre and the castle. We loved the breakfast selection - we could even have bacon and scrambled egg which isn't always available in a continental breakfast.

The room was very noisy at night due to traffic noise. It was very hot when we were there so we had the windows open. I bought some earplugs which were effective.

location due to being near steam railway I have stayed hear many times and it never disapointing good breakfast

this is a very minor thing the young lad at check in good have smiled just once

No warm welcome at reception. Struggled to see a happy face amongst the Hotel staff. Evening meal was disappointing apart from our drinks arriving by rail. Very poor table service. Waiting staff setting for breakfast around us as we ate.
