I stayed in 5 different hotels in Ubud and this one was my favourite. It is an older, traditional style hotel with lovely gardens and overlooks the rice fields. There are 2 swimming pools, with plenty of loungers. There is a restaurant and spa on-site. I did not use the spa, so can't comment. The location is so perfect, right on Monkey Forest Road, but once you are inside the property, you don't hear the noise from the road. The pool at the bottom of the property overlooks rice fields. I stayed in room 321 which overlooks the first pool. The room was quite dark but this meant it was nice and cool during the day. The towels and bedding were clean and fresh-smelling. There are signs in the room that you can put up if you want the staff to change the towels and/or bedding. They are trying to be eco-concious and I think it's great. There was mosquito plug-in plus tablets provided - very convenient. The water pressure in the shower was not great. They provided hand towels, whch is something that most hotels don't seem to do and I was very appreciative of that. The WiFi was good. We had a troop of monkeys visit us one morning; which was a bit unnerving but they ventured off quite quickly. Now the big thing: the NOISE from the club next door. While I was aware that there might be noise, based on previoius reviews, I honestly did not think it would be as loud as it was. It sounded as if the DJ was standing outside my door. The first night I was awake until 2am, and the next 2 nights, probably till about 1am. Having said that, I stayed in the very first block, which I think gets the most noise. I think if you stayed down towards the bottom, it might be less. But even so, I still rate this hotel as my best one - despite the noise.

Breakfast was average

The resort is a real relaxing oasis in the middle of the Ubud chaos! Locations is absolutely great, The hotel per se is spectacular and it gives you a glimpse of the real balinese decor, the room was very spacious with plenty of storage and the bed are comfy! The staff is very friendly and professional and the food for breakfast/dinner was very very good! Also a big plus and made us laugh every single day there, is the lovely talking birds they have!!

We had a problem the first night there, they gave us the room upstairs that is facing a club nearby with very loud music and lots of people until late, we went to talk to reception about this and they moved us to the downstairs bedroom the next day with no problem! We felt very sorry for the resort as it is very peaceful and enjoyable, the real problem is whoever gave permission to that club to play until 2am disturbing the neighbourhood but there are plenty of rooms that are not affected by the noise at all so just ask for them when you book maybe!

Cendana is so centrally located in Ubud but still has a tranquil rice paddy view. The 2nd pool is exceptional! Traditional old Bali architecture and such friendly staff.

The on-site spa was priced in US dollars. There is also a club nearby that plays loud music but I was aware and came prepared with my own earplugs and chose a deluxe room further away. Perhaps offering guests earplugs might be an idea for the hotel.

The staff are loving and very helpful. The hotel is beautiful, from the gardens to the swimming pools (equipped with towels), the rooms are very spacious and comfortable, with a minibar, which is a plus. The breakfast is varied and very good! I would definitely go back.

The rooms are not soundproofed, I could hear everything from my neighbors, which resulted in two nights of difficulty sleeping because of the noise. There is also a bar very close by that has very loud music until midnight - if you have difficulty sleeping with noise, this is not the place for you. Personally, it didn't bother me but the bathrooms deserved renovation, as did the drainage system.

The location was perfect - just tucked away off the main street. This was a truly traditional Balinese accommodation so make sure to adjust your expectations. The bathroom tiles appear dirty and the general room in need of a deep clean but really it's just older style - I didn't mind it at all. Found the cute wooden doors and padlock to lock the door really cute and just added to the experience. Do note that the noise that other reviews refer to is real - you can definitely hear the sound of the live band playing in the nearby club like it's right there with you. I got used to it quickly and had no issues (one night went over and enjoyed it firsthand - if you can't beat them, join them!) but definitely bring earplugs if you think this will be an issue. Absolutely loved the two pool areas and the view from the room over the rice fields was beautiful!

At times they would light fires in the rice fields and the smell/smoke wasn't the most pleasant but it was during the daytime when most days I'd be out and about anyway. As noted above - the noise from the nearby club might become annoying for some.

The hotel staff were all so nice all the time! The room, the bed, the bathroom, all was big, the bed pretty comfy. Breakfast is served in a lovely open restaurant by the pool. The location of the hotel is quite convenient, located in the heart of Ubud but away from the noise, walking distance from Monkey Forrest, many cafes and restaurants are nearby.

On the outside, the place looks lovely, different, traditional, but it could use proper renovation of the inner space, especially bathrooms. Mouldy shower curtains, broken shower heads, broken mirrors and stained toilets are not something you want to see in your hotel (or any other) bathroom. The wifi was very poor (5/10).

I've been visiting Cendana in Ubud since I was a kid and it never disappoints! First time staying in the more expensive room as the cheaper ones were sold out. I was worried it wouldn't be best value for money but spending a bit more instead of going somewhere further out of town was the best decision we made all trip. The bathrooms seemed new and the view from the upstairs room was absolutely stunning. I love looking over the pool and rice fields (a rare view these days in central Ubud). Amazing location when on foot.

Beautiful outlook over the rice fields. Beautiful pools. Comfy beds. Good location. Nice big room with windows and huge bathroom. Clean rooms. Beautiful, traditional details in room, balcony, the doors, etc.

At night, it’s was awfully noisy from a nearby nightclub. I am usually a heavy sleeper and music doesn’t bother me but the base rattled your sole as you tried to sleep. Glasses in our rooms we used for drinks were never replaced, despite being left outside, on food trays, with ants crawling in them, the dirty glasses would be placed back in our room. Once we called reception and asked for new glasses they were happy to do so. The clientele (being more Europeans) were not super friendly, stared at you by the pool, was a bit awkward, felt like we couldn’t make a noise. Pleasant stay despite those things.

The ideal mixture of authentic Balinese accommodation with modern comfort in the heart of Ubud. The two pools were well maintained and had lovely views over the rice fields. Our room was lovely and the bed canopy meant we could comfortably keep any rogue bugs out. Check-in and out was easy and the accomodation provided their driver for us at late notice and a very reasonable price when we had another driver cancel. Breakfast was also great with range of al la carte options, fresh blended juice and tea/coffee (with espresso at an additional cost).

The shower head could have used maintenance or replacement to avoid spilling onto the floor but was still useable and the bathroom was large enough to accommodate.
