Wonderful building, a beautifully modernised palazzo once owned by the Medicis, in an unbeatable location. Very good staff. Price exceptionally reasonable. I’d be very happy to stay here again, except…

No breakfast a minor thing. I scored with a shower next door to the room, but most would not. No air conditioning almost a deal breaker. Temperatures at the beginning of my stay hit almost 40 degrees, and I did seriously consider moving hotel. Even with a fan on and the windows open (which might explain my half dozen insect bites) temperatures at night were at times very nearly unbearable.

We had a double-aspect room, which had a glimpse of the Duomo; likely to be the best room in the hotel. I knew the floors were tiles, the ceilings high - very high - and so had expected to be frozen most of the time. I could not have been more wrong - the heating worked very well, so much so that we didn't even need the slippers we had brought. What their energy bill must be like I shudder to think.

Not having a lift - and where could they have put one - made the climb to the second floor a bit of a challenge; but in every sense, worth it. Also, although there was a shower in our room, we were obliged to share a toilet. Although not a problem - we felt sure the Firenze nobles that would surely have lived there would have had a far less civilised facility.

Location was brilliant, near the centre. Staff are friendly and Vincenzo was very accommodating of my late check in time. Bed is very comfortable. Shared bathroom (there's actually two bathrooms with showers for the bottom floor to share!) but I only once needed to use at the same time as someone else so was absolutely fine. Would absolutely stay again if I was in Florence.

Some noise from people coming in front door as my room was right at front of the hotel, but nothing that can't be covered by earplugs.

The location of Hotel Bavaria is excellent. It is in the very hard of the city. Also the place has areal character since it is in an old palazzo. Our room had beautifull frescos on the ceiling. The rooms are furnished in a simple but very functional way. Beds were very comfortable. We had a room with bathroom. Some rooms have shared bathroom in the hallway, but all of the bathrooms are very clean. We were very happy in the hotel. The staff was very helpfull and d friendly. They do not serve breakfast but guests can make coffee and tea for free in the reception area. Our rooms were cleaned every day. If I come to Florence I will stay in this hotel again. It is real value for money place.

We liked everything.

This hôtel is in a traditional, beautifully kept building, and the location is fantastic - all the major tourist attractions within walking distance. Also, it is perfect if you just want to enjoy walking around Florence and take a rest in the afternoon before heading off out again. The staff were so helpful and friendly. We had a lovely room with its own shower but shared a toilet. The hôtel's standards of cleanliness were fautless, so this worked out fine during our stay. Breakfast is not provided, so another big plus is access to the breakfast area where there is a coffee machine, fridge, etc., with very good bakeries and food shops nearby.

Communication with host was exceptional. Check-in was painless. Room was large, and comfortable. Very quiet location. Mosquitoes initially were a wee bit of a problem, mosquito plug in was available. It was known in advance that there was a bathroom in our room. Towel warmer was very welcomed. As some rooms do not have private bath. It was also known in advance there was no breakfast. There was a refrigerator, coffee bar, tea and so forth set up for 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. daily. Vincenzo made cab arrangements for a 4:30 AM departure. He asked several times if there was something else he could help us with.

Unfortunately, the steps are many and with luggage is difficult for older legs. (It was known there was no elevator) . Electrical plug ins were at a minimum. Could have used extension cord to use with lap top as well as phones and hotspot charging. One issue in bathroom, the shower base is shallow and the water does spill over onto the floor. Was quite chilly 1st of 2 nights. We could have used additional blanket. Blankets were provided in the armoire along with extra pillows but could have used another. We did not ask for any additional from our host. I'm sure he would have provided had we asked. Vincenzo, a lovely gentleman.

The absolutely beautiful old building was an expirence in and of itself, the furniture and interior design was thoughtfully selected to create the maximum ambiance. It has all the romance of the Renaissance era with the welcome exception of the modern (yet still beautiful) bathroom. The charming older man who showed us to our room was sweet, helpful, and endearing, and obviously so proud of his hotel. The location was convenient, very near the Duomo yet still quite with no street noise, and the view was incredible. Absolutely wonderful experience, I would certainly encourage you to give it a try. Best place I've stayed in Florence.

Our bathroom had beautiful marble floors and a glass shower, which, while aestheticly stunning, did make my nervous about slipping on the wet floor, so do be cautious. Lastly, given the age of the hotel we were given physical metals keys to open our doors which, while charming, did seem to stick a little in the old locks.

Location was great as it was within 5 mins of the Duomo. Bedroom was fairly large & in bedroom shower was nice. Communication was adequate (make sure you let them know if your going to be a late checkin & try and be precise on time). They helped us with finding car parking for our rental.

Had to carry our luggage up to 2nd floor but not their fault (no lift). There is no air conditioning in the room but had 2 portable fans (we managed by opening our window at night but might be a problem in July & Aug). No in-bedroom bathroom, so we had to share with other occupants (they had 2 bathrooms & they were kept clean). Some of these issues are inherent to the design of these old buildings in the historical area, so probably not anything they can remedy but the AC they need to resolve).

Amazing value for a room! Il Duomo is just around the corner (5min walk), as well as many restaurants and cafes. The neighbourhood is quiet, although you can hear a bit of noise from other rooms/corridors, especially when people are leaving in the morning. My room was with a shared bathroom, but I had no trouble using it, it was very clean (and they have 2 bathrooms). No breakfast available, but provided with tea/coffee, there was a kettle in the room as well. Made me feel like I am staying in a Medici palace back in 16th century... (in a good way)

What a brilliant first hotel experience in the heart of Florence! Superb location - just 2 minutes walking distance to the Duomo. Vincenzo, the manager, is an absolute gem - I had to check in earlier than planned, and the communication was excellent. I could send some check-in information over the phone, and finish the rest after dropping my bags and doing my timed entrance museum visit. His colleague also gave me lots of good recommendations for good local restaurants to sample. I could leave my bag at the reception after check-out until late afternoon while I was still exploring Florence. It's a historic building - so no lift and rooms are from the 2nd floor upwards, and toilets are shared (very clean), although a lot of rooms, including mine, have private showers. But frescoes on the wall of the staircase and such a charming entrance hall area. My room was super clean and well-presented, again with wall frescoes and so spacious. Window in my room was facing the courtyard so there was no street noise. Hotel Bavaria is really affordable for the wonderful experience that it offers. I will definitely book here again next time I visit Florence!
