The private open-air onsen baths were really nice. The room was spacious, with a separate area for the "kitchen" and toilet, living and seating. The property was located next to one of the main streets, so it was easy to get to and leave from with the car.

The separate part of the building with the rooms were a bit dated, it didn't have an elevator for example. So, we decided to leave our big luggages in the car, as to not have to drag it up the stairs to the third floor. It was a bit of a hassle to keep going to the reception to see if the keys to the private baths were available, but luckily we did manage to get the baths we wanted during our stay.

The best part of this ryokan was that we had our private bath area attached to the room. We checked all 3 of their bath houses but our own bathtub had the cleanest water and space aside from small insects (mostly ants) all over the area. They charged bath service fee 1000Y for our staying period for 2 nights 3 days. The next best thing for us was their breakfast. We were so glad that we include the breakfast service during our stay. The foods were made with mostly fresh and various local ingredients. I once asked if we could get a little more of the one of the small dishes to the staff. She explained that it would be difficult to add more amount but brought some out for us. The third best thing was their "jigoku steamer" that was available for their guests. We purchased fresh seafood at the near-by market and nourished ourselves with the delicious foods. They let you borrow all the gears and explain how to use the steamer in details. It's so worth to try. Lack of English speaking staffs wasn't a big issue but would be helpful at times. Overall, we stayed happy and enjoyed the onsen experiences.

Our room entrance was close to the front desk. As a traditional building often is, there is lack of acoustical barrier throughout the ryokan. The noise/music coming from the lobby made our experience less private. Considering that, making love in the room should be quite unless you don't care others to hear it. There were windows at the next building facing to our private onsen. The windows had shutters but we weren't sure if those were completely blocked or not. Again, the privacy was compromised a little. Plus we were able to hear the next room's through the private onsen area. The thin wooden wall blocks any views between the bath spaces but not the noise. One night, we came back to the ryokan just after 10 pm and the front door was locked. We checked the side gate but it was also locked. We stood outside for about half an hour while trying to reach the staff. Their 2 cats came out and started to cry for help with us. 🤣 Finally a staff came to the door and opened the door for us after a numerous phone calls and knocking on the door. Apologized that the side gate got locked by accident. It was both a stressful and cute experience as cat lovers.
