Very welcoming. Free parking. Family vibe. Spa pool was clean and not crowded. Tattoo friendly. Food was wonderful.

It's somewhat a boutique hotel, looks a little old but all things functional.

I rarely wrote reviews online (and never on booking.com), but this one is so awesome that I felt compelling to write my review! - The hotel picked me up twice: once for luggage (when I just arrived kawaguchiko station) and once for myself (in the late afternoon after I toured around). Each time the pick up was so quick and nice! Love it. - As I arrived at the hotel, the staff literally came out the building to welcome me -- I never had such VIP experience and immediately blown away - And then a staff walked me all the way to the room, and gave me a room tour - The dinner was also great: in particular, the staff were very caring and paying attention to the pace of eating. I was a solo traveler and usually I ate fast, so I became the fastest eater in the hall which concerned the staff (sorry:) but I explained that all things good:) - The breakfast was even better: I usually didn't have much expectation for breakfast from hotel, but this one certainly above my expectation - The hotel gave a free ride to kawaguchiko station as I checked out. The staff again literally came out the build to farewell. Thanks to every staff in the hotel for your service, it's amazing!

The staff are very nice! The view of mt Fuji on a clear day and the lake is lovely. There is a shuttle from the train.

The futon was not at all comfortable, after staying in other similar places this was the worst and honestly we hardly slept. The hotel ‘closed’ at 10am so on departure day we had to pay extra to a shop near the station to keep our bags which we thought was strange. The hotel in general is quite old, and could do with some care and attention. The hot springs were not the cleanest and the windows were dirty so the view was awful. I only booked this hotel after reading some of the reviews here like ‘this was the best experience ever’, but honestly I have to say that this was the worst hotel on our tour of Japan so far.

The staff were all exceptionally friendly and attentive - everyone from the shuttle bus driver and receptionists to the restaurant staff. Mount Fuji is visible from the rooms and also from the nice little onsen on the top floor. The shuttle bus service is very convenient to and from Kawaguchiko station. Both the dinner and breakfast were great and plentiful. The view gets a bit better as you go further along the lakeshore away from Kawaguchiko station, but we found Hotel Asafuji to be good value for money and the wonderful service made it a very pleasant stay.

The futon beds in the tatami rooms are a bit hard when you’re not used to them, but I think they are the same everywhere.

It's my second time staying at that ryokan, and the staff was kind and friendly like always. We had a super nice tatami room with a private bath tub and fuji view. Unfortunately, we had no luck with the weather, and the mountain was not to be seen. The Onsen was relaxing, and we jad it mostly to ourselves. The food was good but could have been a bit more diverse from one day to another.

Like I said before, the food could have been more diverse. The Kaiseki dinner was exactly the same as I had last year. The same goes for breakfast. And from one day to the next, there weren't so many changes. I wonder if we would've stayed a third day/night if we had gotten the same dinner again. I had Kaiseki cuisine in other Ryokan before, and it had a bit more variety in ingredients. But it is just a minor issue.

Amazing stay! The room is extremely nice, with many different amenities and freebies such as green tea, snacks, a dehumidifier, TV, tabi socks etc. The bed is set up for you during/after dinner. The view of both Lake Kawaguchiko and Mt Fuji was absolutely beautiful from my room in the morning. The onsen is also very nice and clean. There are free rental bikes as well as a shuttle from Kawaguchiko station. The kaiseki is delicious and well-plated. A special special shoutout to one particular staff (I'll keep her name private) who spoke English with whom I had an extremely lovely time talking and meeting with her during my meal! Highly recommend this place.

Nothing!

Hotel Service: The hotel offers a free pick-up and drop-off service to and from Kawaguchiko Station, which was incredibly convenient. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, going above and beyond to make us feel at home. Even before we arrived, they maintained constant communication to ensure everything was perfect for our stay. During meals, they thoughtfully explained each dish in detail and were always attentive to our needs. Rooms: We chose a lake-view room overlooking Mount Fuji, and it was truly breathtaking. The room itself was spacious, spotlessly clean, and beautifully maintained. The futons were so comfortable, it felt like sleeping on a cloud! The Wi-Fi was fast and reliable, adding to the overall comfort of our stay. Food: All the meals we had throughout our stay (dinner and breakfast) were excellent. The presentation was beautiful and it felt like the chef really put thought into the menu and loved the food as well. Overall, our experience at this ryokan was nothing short of amazing. From the warm hospitality to the stunning views of Mount Fuji, every detail was carefully taken care of. We left with cherished memories and a deep appreciation for the kindness of the staff. If you’re looking for a tranquil and authentic Japanese experience, this ryokan is an excellent choice. We can’t wait to return someday!

We couldn't take advantage of the onsen access, but still wanted to have the more traditional experience during our trip, and this ended up being a great option. Room was very clean and comfortable, lots of space. Traditional breakfasts were our favorite part of the stay - delicious, varied, and well-explained so we could enjoy each dish as it's meant to be eaten. Shuttle service to/from Kawaguchiko station was very much appreciated. 20 min walk or 10 min bus ride to a nice 24hr laundromat with daytime cafe. 5-10min walk to several traditional restaurants and shops, 20-30min walk or 15-20min bus ride to Kawaguchiko for lots of food/shopping options. Just be aware of when the buses stop running for the day - google maps will not always tell you. The staff gave us odd looks for leaving around 5pm to go to the laundromat, but didn't say anything else. We didn't realize til walking back in the rain at 7pm that it was because the buses stopped running at 6pm. Our own fault, and funny to look back on, but very wet at the time and wish we'd known. : )

Toilet was a little odd...motion activated and opened/closed on its own, occasionally whether you were done or not, or if you just walked by too close to the door if it was ajar.

staff was very responsive even prior to our arrival and they even made it a point to reconfirm arrival times. Hotel has a shuttle to and from the train/bus stations. Check-in was a breeze and they will already ask you what time you want breakfast and shuttle service. The stop for the Kawaguchiko loop bus (Red line) is right outside the hotel. Kaiseki dinner course was amazing. Breakfast was also. Staff will also bring you to your room and explain when they will "turn down" the beddings. Hotel staff will line up outside to send you one your way (on check-out). I love this little hotel and would return again.

There's nothing that I didn't like about it.

Lovely hotel. We had a view of the lake and Mount Fuji - when the clouds lifted - from our room, and a bathtub with a view. The Japanese-style room was comfortable and well set out. The staff were wonderful and so helpful. The onsen was nice too.

There's very little to dislike. The hotel is a little bit of a walk from the centre of town, but that's fine. The staff need to come in twice a day to put out and put away the futons, and as we had a very rainy day there, that wasn't ideal as we were in our room a lot, but it wasn't a major problem by any means.
