We stayed at Toemu Lodge for two weeks with our one year old this ski season. The location is excellent and the shared facilities were always very clean. The bathrooms were clean and the Onsen was very convenient to use after a day of skiing. The staff were very helpful and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. It was easy staying here with a little one and our family would definitely stay here again.
We stayed on the first floor and it could be a little noisy at times. You could hear other people walking around upstairs, which is probably the same for most ryokans. We had a similar experience at other accomodation in Nozawa Onsen. The hotel also provided free ear plugs. It wasn’t overly disruptive, our one year old slept through it!

Very nice staff. Helped us arrange shuttle to train station and other ski resorts with reasonable prices. There are tasty complimentary local apples everyday. Our rooms (twin beds with ensuite bathroom) are quite spacious in Japanese standards, though it's not consistent with the photos shown on Booking. There is an onsen in the lodge which is convenient and clean. Big dry room with enough places to hold our gears. Location is also okay with 15-20 minute uphill walking distance to the gondola with gears on. Also not far away from the main street.
Very poor WIFI. Never actually got connected in our rooms. One of our room doesn't have curtains (only Japanese paper doors).

Great to have a free breakfast included! Good location - a 5 min walk from the main street and 10 minutes from the slopes. Friendly, helpful, English speaking staff. Rooms very simple, but clean with lots of storage for suitcases and gear. Ski storage and boot-warming room available on-site. Offer shuttle service (with a fee) to Iiyama train station. Super helpful setting up gear transport through Yamato. The beds are traditional Japanese mats on the floor.
The simplicity of the room and lack of lighting options (a single overhead fixture only) makes it feel a little like a hostel than many hotel rooms we have stayed in. However, they were clean with lots of storage and we would definitely stay again.

Toemu is in a good location - short walk up to the main gondola and quick walk into town. The staff were all amazing and super helpful and friendly, especially Tiger and Caitlyn (Kailtin?). The breakfast each morning was plentiful and delicious perfect for fuelling a day of skiing. The lodge had its own little onsens which were great to warm up in each evening.
It would be great if hot showers were available all day not just in a select window in the afternoon. One other very minor thing was that space next to the fire was often occupied by off duty staff.

The location proximity to the Main Street and access to the ski lifts was exceptional. A short walk uphill to get to the ski lift, but that is normal considering the layout of the town. 5-10 minutes walk with all of our gear
The walls are thin, if you have neighbours that are making noise late at night or upstairs neighbours walking around you will hear it. For the most part, everyone in the lodge was very respectful of keeping noise down during quiet times

Loved the location of this Lodge, it was an easy to walk to the township - 3-5mins and to the gondola - 10mins The staff were very helpful - lots of English speaking staff. The room was large and warm and comfortable. The breakfast was good with an omelette station and pancake station. There was a vending machine for soft drinks and beers which was convenient, along with a washing machine and dryer and a water cooler which was nice after a long day skiing.
there was nothing I didnt like

The room was big and comfy beds. The staff were amazing and always so helpful. Breki was excellent and so much variety.
You had to wait for everybody to go to bed, otherwise when people were above your room or walking past your room, it was loud thumping noises. You did get used to it after a while. It didn’t put me off by booking this again. Maybe they need signs on the doors to be a bit more respectful of other guests.

Friendly and super helpful staff! Great location, short walk up to gondola and down to the main town. Breakfast by the staff was a perfect way to start each big day.
What I’ve seen on some reviews is people have stayed here with the expectation they are staying in a hotel, the rooms aren’t cleaned and fresh bedding put out each day - if this bothers you then you need to rethink your choices, you can make your own bed you know. Also there was a complaint about the Onsen… not sure why, was a little old but looked clean as to me! Also there is so many Onsens in town so you’re spoiled for choice really.

The rooms are very spacious for Japan. This exceeded our expectations. The staff were excellent. The inclusive breakfast was a great start to the day. The drying room was great. The hotel layout was excellent. The in hotel Onsen worked well and the amenities were great. The bed's and doona's were great an meant we could turn off the heating.
The heating in the rooms weren't that adjustable. Either all on or off.

Buffet breakfast. Heaps of food
I think people should have to pay when they book. Nozawa is getting impossible to book unless you book 10 months out....this is because they offer free cancellation , and I believe lots of people book , even though they arent that committed to going. As a result lots of cancellations appear around the payment time. This makes it hard to book for people who are committed and would happily pay up front.
