The dinner here was amazing - a traditional, several course Japanese meal. This was the most relaxing part of a busy holiday travelling round Japan, we loved the outdoor onsen in the autumn scenery. Staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly. If you want to feel like you've experienced Japan, I couldn't recommend this more, and it's really close to the station to see the rest of Hakone too.

Amazing stay at a traditional ryokan with onsen (tattoo-friendly). We had a room with a private onsen, that was super nice. Was also got a traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast, served while sitting on the floor in a tatami room and they were very accommodating with food allergies and diets. The service was impeccable and you really feel like you’re at a five star hotel. The open air onsen was amazing.

If you don’t have a room with a private onsen there is only a public onsen for showering. You also have to be naked in the onsen, but that is understandable but maybe not for everyone. The food is not for picky eaters as it is a very traditional Japanese food.

The staff were fantastic and couldn't do enough for us. So friendly and always there to help and answer questions. Our room was huge. The private bath was nice but not that hot. It was cool to have the huge windows open overlooking the trees. Not too far from the station but there are some steep hills. The food was very traditional. It was good for us to try things we wouldn't have thought to order in a restaurant. We definitely preferred the breakfast which was lovely.

The outdoor bath was not open for the duration of our stay. I was very disappointed about this. This is one of the main reasons we booked and we weren't given warning before our stay despite it already being closed before we arrived. The price is high so when one of the main services / unique selling points isn't working, we may have chosen a different place to stay instead.

Incredible ryokan. We were lucky enough to upgrade our room so got to experience the private onsen suite and the standard room. Definitely book the private onsen room. Also be aware that the standard rooms don’t come with a shower - just toilet and sink. The standard room still offers a great traditional experience, but it is a little bit rougher, feels a bit like camping. Food was an amazing experience, the staff were so nice, they genuinely took special effort with all the guests. Some of the courses were a bit out there, but that’s part of the experience!

The futon beds were very uncomfortable, but it is traditional. I guess in my eyes it would still be traditional even if you had a much thicker futon? Either way, it didn’t ruin our stay.

An incredible place! The staff were warm, friendly and so welcoming. The breakfasts and dinners were delicious. Every course, and there were many, was a new delight. We were in a room with a private onsen which was such a treat but we also enjoyed the outside onsen at sunrise during our chilly December stay. When we were exploring the stunning gardens with the autumnal colours we spotted a deer. We were sad to leave. Oh yes, it’s also in an excellent location to explore the Hakone area. Pictures are from garden walk and from our room, plus our onsen.

We booked the private suite with an in room onsen. Staff met us at the door and were very friendly. Dinner and breakfast times were scheduled during check in and my meal accommodation requests were met with no issues at all. The room was excellent, a very traditional room with tatami flooring and the staff set up our futons while we were at dinner. The in room onsen is very nice, if not the most modern looking, however we enjoyed the rustic charm of the entire suite. We were given local mochi and tea in our rooms at check in that were both excellent. Dinner was a multi course experience that was all fantastic and expertly prepared along side excellent service. After dinner we checked out the outdoor baths that are seclude and give a nice view of the woods and night sky. The water is a very nice temperature and the experience was very relaxing after walking many miles the days prior. Breakfast in the morning was again excellent, we had to skip lunch as it was so filling and delicious that we had stuffed ourselves. The hotel itself is located very close to Gora station, allowing for quick access to the skyline to the lake as well as a short walk to the open air museum and Gora park. Even though the property is close to so many things you feel like you're really deep in the woods once you enter the property, giving a nice relaxing and quiet experience.

Everything was excellent at the hotel. The in room onsen was very nice but some of the lighting is a bit older and dimmable lights would make the experience even nicer. We also went during spider season so our early morning walk of the more secluded trails on the grounds was cut short after running into about 100 Jora spider webs. If you stick to the main path this isn't an issue at all.

This is an authentic Japanese place to stay. The staff are very friendly and the rooms are very traditional and clean. We loved the complementary mochi in the room! We did not have a shower in our set of traditional rooms, only a toilet and sink. They have an outside onsen that was good as it’s in a jungle sort of outdoor setting. Generally the place could do with some sympathetic updating. The things we liked was the traditional room with beautiful views and sitting area that is set up in a traditional fashion and then when you have dinner they set the room up with Japanese sleeping matts. We knew this before going but being western it was not comfortable sleepIng. My daughter had her period and there was no where she could shower as the inside public onsen only consisted of 2 traditional Japanese shower stations- and the inside onsen really needs some updating. I feel bad writing this as I know it’s not painting a good picture. The staff are so lovely and there is a magical charm about the place. We also had the dinner and breakfast. Very very Japanese. We are adventurous but if you are not- you will be hungry.

If you choose a Japanese traditional Matt room for sleepIng, make sure you are ok with that as it’s hard and not at all comfortable if you aren’t used to it. They switch the male and female side of onsen each day/ so the indoor one I went into really needs some updating! My daughter had no where to shower as mentioned above. This was really helpful unacceptably and I tried to ask about showering and I don’t think I was understood- it was embarrassing.

We recently stayed at this beautifully maintained traditional ryokan, and it exceeded our expectations in every way. The building itself is immaculately clean, and the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and provided a true sense of relaxation. The meals were extraordinary. Dinner was a feast—each course more refined than the last. From appetizers, seafood, and wagyu beef to vegetables, omelette, and fruits, the variety and quality were exceptional. The portions were so generous that we couldn't finish our breakfast the next morning, which included a delightful selection as well. The kids' menu was equally impressive, offering top-quality dishes that our child loved. One detail we appreciated was how the staff prepared our futons while we enjoyed dinner, and in the morning, they transformed the room back into a living space while we had breakfast. The onsen experience was magical, especially the outdoor one. It was raining while we soaked in the hot spring, which added a serene and charming touch to the moment. Though we’re not used to futons and found them a bit thin, we still slept well despite the firmness. Overall, we would highly recommend this family-friendly ryokan. It provided us with one of the best travel experiences we've ever had...

The dinner and breakfast were good. Not sensational. The pickled veg etc. were very good. The main dishes were ok. The outside onsen was nice. The grounds were beautiful, and this I liked most of all The old style architecture and the beautiful momiji trees were picture perfect.

Although the grounds were beautiful, the walking area around the onsen grounds were a bit unstable for older people. Not enough things to hang on to in case of a slip. Lots of mosquitos and spider webs. Within the building itself, there were also what I would call danger issues. with stairs and inadequate railings. When I took a soak in the public bath area, there were kids, which would have been fine, except one child kept yelling to his mom on the other side of the wall.. Maybe having children time and adult time would be better. I wanted to experience the quite of the outdoors in stead I had a screaming child. I spent about a few minutes in the pool with the father apologizing to me as I left.

The breakfast and dinner were amazing. It is a very traditional Japanese Kaiseki meal so if you are picky then maybe it’s not for you. But I loved it. It’s definitely an experience. The location is perfect - Literally like a two minute walk to the train station and bus stop to the hakone ropeway and odawara station so if you have luggages, it’s not a problem. Staff were also really attentive.

The onsen could have been bigger. Honestly, it’s more personal because I really wanted a private onsen and thought all rooms had that feature. It is a bit expensive for not having for your onsen so I can only imagine what the price is for private onsen but it’s comparable to other places. I think you’re paying for location and food.
