From the moment we arrived Gas (the Host) looked after us. He was very organised and a great communicator. He also has a wealth of knowledge that he was more than happy to share guiding us on everything from bus times, where to rent equipment, supermakret locations, etc. We were a large group of 7 (4 adults & 3 children) occupying a private Triple room and 2 x private double rooms. The space was comfortable, spacious and warm. The kitchen was well equipped and there were additional services (at a small fee) that made the trip very convenient such as cooked dinners, laundry and even beer on tap! The meals were excellent (compliments to the chefs Bianca and Liam) and the shared areas were cozy. Breakfast consisted of cereal, toast, juice, tea and coffee - functional and met expectations. The transport to and from the snow fields was very convenient. Gas has a well organised booking system which is included in the price. Restaurant and Onsen reccomendations from Gas were excellent. Overall we had a wonderful week at the Bohemian's Shelter. Gas and his team could not do enough to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. Thank you Gas, Bianca, Liam and Elena for being wonderful hosts and making our first trip to Hakuba very memmorable.

Nothing! It was perfect.

This was the best possible experience I could’ve had in a hostel. The staff were so incredibly helpful and kind, going out of their way to look out for me when they really had no obligation to. My stay really warmed my heart and I would come back in a heartbeat. The owner, Gaspard, and staff have built such a warm and hospitable environment that makes staying here feel so relaxed and positive. And while the vibe is very laid back, the place is extremely organised and well run. The free breakfasts were filling and energy dense; and the dinners provided were delicious and reasonably priced. The hostel also had a distinctly social vibe, with lots of chatter and card games during and after dinner. While the place is a little out of the way of the town, Gas runs regular shuttles to and from the hostel which make it super easy to get around the town.

The team was extremely hospitable. From arranging pick ups from check-in day/check-out day to daily visits to different fields by dropping us to the nearest bus stops. He also checked on us from time to time if everything was okay. As we chose a shared dorm, we were prepared for certain inconvenience, however, we were also fortunate that the people living in the shared dorm were real friendly and considerate, we even went skiing together. There was also a common room where guests were able to chill together. its not surprising why bohemians' shelter has an extremely high rating with repeated guests. the meals prepared by bianca & liam were great too!

Gas is a very accommodating and hospitable host. My stay with his place made my trip so much better than I expected it to be. The place is located in a very nice spot in the mountains with very good views. The staff were very nice and they provide really great meals for a very reasonable price. The vibe in the house is very friendly. It's my first time staying in this kind of accommodation and I really loved it. It's really nice to meet lots of people from different places and share stories and conversations with them. I travelled solo so I was also snowboarding alone during my trip, and it was really nice to have people to share your experiences in the mountains for that day, and hear their experiences as well. They also offer shuttle pick up/drop off for free in specific times, and if you want to request for a special pick up/drop off, Gas is willing to arrange it as long as it is within his set schedule, which helped me a lot since I made some miscalculations when I was preparing for my trip. Will definitely recommend this place and will definitely be the first option I will look for if I ever have the chance to come back to Hakuba in the future.

As a solo traveler, I really enjoyed the vibe in the house. It has more of a family vibe than just a hostel. They offer dinner option at the house every night for 1000 yen only, which saves a lot of time and energy as well as you can have the chance to talk to people and had a great time together. Although it isn't located in a walking distance from the resorts, they provide shuttle buses every morning and evening. Last but not least, the owner, Gaspard, is so helpful and kind!!! He literally solve all my needs when I was in town. I will definitely miss this place and would love to come back again!

First time skiing in Hakuba, first time in Japan ... I chose 'Bohemians' simply because of the good reviews – I had no idea where it was or how convenient it would be for our stay. I was travelling with the family and had so many questions, but Gas answered them all very patiently. He runs an amazing hostel/guest house and went out of his way to accommodate us. I loved the diverse mix of people who were there at the same time as us – breakfast and dinner times were in particular really social and there was a lovely communal vibe.

The Bohemian Shelter was the perfect hostel for my solo trip to the snow. All of the staff went over and above- to create a warm and friendly environment and made it easy to hit various mountains each day. I unfortunately had to go to hospital one day (with a snowboarding injury) and Gaspard took me there himself, waiting until I was discharged. For anyone wanting an affordable, hostel style, snow trip- I would highly recommend.

I recently stayed at a guest house where Gas and the team were incredibly welcoming and helpful. Their local knowledge was impressive, making my stay even more enjoyable. The atmosphere was social, allowing me to meet a number of great people while still feeling relaxed. Gas provided shuttles to different slopes in the mornings, which was a huge plus. The family dinners were a wonderful way to connect with other like-minded travelers. Everything was clean and spacious, making it a perfect place to unwind. Highly recommend!

Everything. From Gaspards hospitality to his organisation, everything is easy, smooth and streamlined. Multiple shuttles to either the main bus terminal (where all the busses to the resorts go from), or if there's a bunch of people going to a close resort, you get dropped to the door. Awesome.

Gaspard doesn't swing in the other direction, if you know what I mean. Also, it's not apparent by just looking at google maps, but the house is on the top of quite a large hill. Walking from town to Bohemian isn't a thing (I mean, you can, but taxi is the way to go (or 50 beers)). Gas will also give you a lift if it's organised in advance and not winged.

Gaspard the owner/operator is fantastic! Great guy and very knowledgable about Hakuba. His backpackers lodge is great fun. Would definitely recommend this to people travelling to Hakuba. Great opportunities to socialise and meet new people! Liam and Bianca the staff were also very helpful and great fun.

It was a little far out of Hakuba, but still walkable if you're committed! Regardless it's not a huge issue as Gaspard runs multiple shuttles on a regular basis, and you can arrange individual pick ups for a small fee.
