Yuki is an amazing host and the guest house has everything you could ask for, including a common use room and kitchen with fridge, freezer, gas stove, water filter, etc. Washing machine is outside. If you want to go to a bathhouse, there will be bags with soap as well as yukatas you can take with you. I made lots of use of the bicycles you can rent at no cost during your stay. The surroundings are quiet and relatively close to temples and nature walkways. The next subway station is about 15 mins on foot.

As long as you are aware and fine with this guest house is a bit outside of the city, you'll have no worries.

Authentic Japanese house with only 3 to 4 rooms. Yuki was really kind and helpfull for any questions. Washing machine and dryer available. Small kitchen. 2 shared bathrooms and toilets. Good location to go in all directions of Kyoto. Great value for money. A really nice experience to stay here!

A traditional house with single glass means potentially more noise from outside (wind and rain) than you might be used to in (more) modern stays.

I was looking for an accommodation near Miyako Messe, as I had an event to attend — and thankfully I found Guesthouse Kobako. It's not only close to Miyako Messe, but also to a bus stop (both the convention center and the bus stop are just around 5–6 minutes away on foot). Its vicinity is rather quiet, as it's tucked away in an alley. The room that I booked was spacious, quiet, peaceful, and cozy; it also had a nice view overlooking a traditional house and garden next door. It was a lot larger than I expected, considering that accommodation in Japan (especially for solo travelers) tends to be pretty small, so it was really worth my money. The guesthouse is also pretty generous with its amenities for guests; moisturizer, toner, makeup remover were available for guests to use, and there were even bags with shampoo and body wash in case guests wanted to try bathing at a nearby public bath. Also, the owner is really friendly and sweet. The cafe (also named Kobako) next to the guesthouse serves pretty good coffee, too; the barista was also very friendly. I'd love to stay here again the next time I'm in Kyoto!

Not sure what the issue was, but when I arrived to check in, for some reason the front door wouldn't unlock, even with the code that I received. There were several other guests at the front door who'd been waiting there because the front door wasn't working. Luckily, I remembered that the owner also gave me a code for the back door; I tried it, and it worked. It's just a really small thing, though; this minor hiccup doesn't take away the overall pleasantness of my stay at Kobako.

Everything! Beautiful area, beautiful 100+yr old building, the lady Yuki (sorry if I spelled it wrong!) who runs it with her husband is also lovely and very helpful. Initially when I went to book it I wanted two nights and then on the pay section it said only one night was available, so I booked it and another place and messages the owner if a cancellation showed up would she let me book it. Ended up getting a message off her saying there was an opening and she also said to do it via face to face as booking via this website would be more expensive. That was really appreciated. I'm so glad we got to stay two nights! The owners also run a coffee shop right next door which is handy. Our stay was lovely and quiet with only two other rooms booked and our huge room had a lovely view of a neighbour's cherry blossom tree. You can use their bikes for free too which was an absolute godsend because Kyoto is not the easiest to get around as everything is quite far from each other and not the same closeness between train stations as Tokyo, so using the bikes really sped up our sight seeing. WiFi was also good. Shared facility areas was also really lovely with lots of toiletries and soft towels, hairdryers, hair ties, a fridge and freezer for your own food, coffee, tea and good powerful and warm showers. I was a bit nervous about sleeping on the floor on a traditional ryoken mat but actually had one of the comfiest sleeps of my trip! If you're looking for a serene guest house to escape hustle and bustle and experience a beautiful historic house with a more traditional stay than a hotel, this is the one to book!

Nothing! Even the tiny bathtub/shower was really cute! If I had to pick something I'd say it's perhaps a little hard to find on the first day as it's round a little alleyway corner but that's it.

Wonderful experience in a modest guesthouse - a spacious room, comfortable bed, convenient kitchen facilities and fabulous free coffee roasted by the host's husband. And in a fantastic location, near the Kyoto City Museum of Modern Art, easy walking distance to the Philosopher's Path etc

A towel rack in the room for my towel would have been great. I didn't want to just use a new one all the time.

The property was the most beautiful traditional house with modern amenities. Having access to a bike was a total (and I mean TOTAL) game changer, as Kyoto is a bit difficult to travel around, since busses are so crowded sometimes. The room was super clean and quaint, and the kitchen and shower had everything I needed. if I come to Kyoto, I will be staying here again.

a bit far from Kyoto station, but very much worth it.

One of our favorite stays in Japan. So comfortable and homey. The location is phenomenal. Our host Yuki was kind and welcoming. It was the only place we visited where we just loved hanging out, in the room and in the kitchen. Wonderful free coffee too from the cafe at the front!

Nothing.

The host is such a warming and lovely person! The house is big and the amenities offered are top notch. On top of that, you rarely see anybody else, which means you have a lot of privacy, no matter the time. Definitely recommended for location, condition of the place and services offered!

The room I had on the second floor had some interesting little “friends”. Nothing to worry about, but not good for people who are arachnophobic

The perfect guest house (more than 5 stars hotel)! Best guest house I've never experienced. I stayed for two nights and had a peaceful time. Thank you so much! :)

I can't find anything bad! I will go again when I go to Kyoto ♡
