We had a wonderful stay at this charming traditional-style apartment in Kyoto. The space beautifully combines tradition and comfort, offering the option of sleeping on Western-style beds or tatami mats. The interior is thoughtfully decorated with lovely accents, including an adorable and unique sofa downstairs that added so much character. It’s clear that a lot of care and personal touches went into creating a welcoming atmosphere. The apartment was well-equipped for the colder weather, with heating on both floors and even a heated carpet downstairs, making it cozy and comfortable throughout our stay. However, it’s worth noting that the stairs to the upper floor are steep and narrow, which could pose a challenge for guests with mobility concerns or those who may require more spacious access. Overall, staying here was a brilliant experience that truly allowed us to immerse ourselves in the Kyoto lifestyle. We highly recommend it for anyone looking for an authentic and memorable place to stay in this beautiful city!

The apartment was big, and we loved the location. Easy to get to all the sights but in a nice quiet street. The washing machine worked well and there was a lot of hanging space for clothes. The air conditioners worked well.
The communication was difficult, I think the owner needs to hire someone to write up a template English message to send to guests underneath the Japanese, explaining things like check in, if you can leave luggage early etc. I didn't hear back for 1-2 days before our stay and all the messages I received were in Japanese. I Google translated them and all was fine, but a stock standard English message with information would have made things easier. Also, while we appreciated having armchairs in the room unlike other accommodations, they weren't very comfortable. The stairs would be a downside if you have mobility issues, but I made them work even at six months pregnant.

Very cute kyoto town house. Our favourite stay in Japan so far. With all the amenities needed to feel comfortable and homey. Train station nearby and a short walk from lots of nice kyoto resteraunts. Really good home base for exploring kyoto. Thank you to the host. We really enjoyed ourselves.
It was a little hard to find the check in location, which is a short walk up from the house. We figured it out using the map provided. Keep in mind also the stairs are very steep, which leads to the bedroom. We liked them but an older person may have a hard time climbing the stairs.

A modern and fully equipped accommodation in a traditional house in a fantastic location. One block away from a subway station, right on the edge of Gion, and a short walk to many of the historic shrines and temples in the Higashiyama area. A highlight of our travels in Japan.
A normally quiet neighborhood side street, but you will hear the street noise when it happens, such as the occasional loud car or people talking loudly as they pass.

The house is older and very beautiful inside. The neighborhood is quiet and pretty. They were kind enough to let us store our luggage there while they cleaned. To check in/out, it's a short walk around the corner to pick up and drop off keys. Walking to different locations is doable.

The owners are friendly. The house has a mix of old and new vibes. It is a short walk away from the train station and food. Please noted that you need to pickup your keys from the owner which is staying less than 100meters away. Park your car there if you drive and walk over to you unit.

Beautiful traditional Japanese house in the middle of Kyoto, right next to Gion. Comfortable, two floors house. A home away from home. You can choose between a Western style bed and futons. Friendly and communicative hosts. We had a wonderful time here!

Loved this traditional Japanese home! Beautifully decorated and in a lovely quiet location but only minutes from station and shops. Beds super cosy - had a great sleep!
Nothing. Just have to leave luggage downstairs and nowhere really to store it.

It’s a very pretty little townhouse, carefully decorated. The bed was incredibly comfortable - I never slept so good anywhere else in Japan.
The plastic shelves in the bathroom weren’t clean and still had hair and stubbles of previous guests on them.

The host was more than hospitable - he met us at the property right on time, and showed us around the place. The accommodation is small but cosy, considerate, and well-maintained. The fact that we could store our luggage on our final day while we saw more of Kyoto was a bonus.
This has been mentioned before but the stairs are tricky! Definitely not a deal breaker, but something to be aware of if there are movement-challenged guests.
