Awesome Pontocho/Gion location near Keihan and Hankyu train stations. Beautiful new hotel with good-sized rooms and comfortable beds. Great value for the price (we booked early and got a good rate.) Lounge with free drinks available from 2PM to 9:30. The rooftop bar and restaurant looked nice with a great view of Kyoto but we didn’t try it as there are so many other places around. The front desk was unable to secure me a taxi reservation but I easily got a cab at the corner of Shijo across the road from the Hankyu station as there is a taxi pickup location there.

No complaints!

Overall, the hotel is good enough, as a perfect location, not so expensive price, and even better if you are a fan of Cardcaptor Sakura. Personally, the most important reason for me to choose this hotel this time is that it is modified from an elementary school, even though if you walk in the hotel now, you even cannot imagine except the outside look of the hotel. You can feel it used to be a school. More importantly, this elementary school is the model for Tomoe school. The location of the hotel is great, kawaramachi is a great location not only it is close to gion, but also you can feel the quiet atmosphere in the morning but enjoying late night life at night at the same time. However, kawaramachi station is kind of hard for traveller with large suitcase as it is very hard to find an lift or escalator in the subway. You might need to consider how to move your suitcase up and down. The room is large with very interesting room planning, which is kind of hard to see in other hotels. However, at least the room I stayed in did not provide a suitcase stand so I had to put my suitcase on the ground, which was annoying.

For breakfast, there are three choices, with 2 Western and 1 Japanese. However, the Japanese one is in limited order so you have to wake up early to try it. On the other hand, they only have three choices with a few buffets, which means if you stay in the hotel for more than 3 days, you will be lake of choices, which is unbelievable. Personally, if I stay in the hotel next time, I would prefer to go to Family Mart to buy some food for breakfast instead of choosing 1 from the 3 choices, even though they are delicious. Also, when you check out, you will deposit your luggage in the lobby, which is on the 8th floor. However, you will only need to take your luggage at the ground floor. You might have to wait for a while because the hotel staff on the ground floor is a little hard to find.

Great location for tourist spots (shrines, temples etc) and very close to train station and bus stops. Fantastic views from the bar/restaurant and a lovely place to have breakfast. Very good sized room for Japan and spacious bathroom area. Well maintained facilities and very clean. Staff very helpful but some staff understandably had some issues with complex information in english.

Cooked breakfast options could be more varied

Location is absolutely perfect, close to pretty old streets, some large modern ones, shops and restaurants. Also fairly central with many trains and metro lines around it. The hotel is new and modern, larger than most and luxurious despite the reasonable prices. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The staff is (as expected in Japan) polite, courteous and happy to serve you. The restaurant on the 8th floor serves good food at a fair price. I would not look for another accommodation if I were to go back to Kyoto. The Gate Takasegawa would be my choice without hesitation.

We were there just after New Year (Jan 2-5) and it was a little noisy outside of the hotel at night. It's a popular area for the local residents to go out. Nothing to do with the hotel though and I would still go back despite the noise. It also quieted down after Jan 3rd.

The staff were wonderful for check in, check out, room cleaning, breakfast and the bar lounge - they easily booked us a taxi to Kyoto station when we left. The gentleman bartender was delightful when we had a nightcap. The location is AMAZING, easy to walk around and very close to train stations. Easy walk distance to food, bars, the nishiki markets, multiple shops on the main road, and walks along the river. The bar view as well as room views were stunning. The bed was very large, and the room felt more like a suite - very spacious and luxurious. I would stay here again, and recommend to anyone. Absolutely worth every dollar.

location, bed, shower, great coffee in the room

the breakfast is included but to have eggs Benedict you have to pay extra. not clear during the checking in. the room was on the top of the bar, therefore it was noisy until 22:00. in the morning the music starts early 07:00 (not good at all)

The breakfast has three set options as a main course; additionally, one can go to the buffet line. One of the main set courses is the Japanese-style breakfast; the other two include eggs benedict (the only one I remember) and a third option. Theses three options are the standard set menu every day. The buffet line includes choices of bread and butter, fruits, vegetables, yogurt, potato salad, and of course, coffee, tea, and orange juice. The staff was very attentive and they always ask about any allergies one may have. I was informed by the reception desk staff that I could ask for an omelet instead of the set menu, and one day I did. I would still recommend to go with the set menu options. The location of the hotel is exceptional, especially for a first-time visitor to Kyoto. It is within walking distance from the major subway and rail lines, shopping district, and main attractions, including temples and shrines. The building where the hotel is located used to be an elementary school, and it has been remodeled exceptionally well. My room was very spacious and clean with a view of the mountains.

There is nothing that I can say I did not like.

Location location location. Plus it’s pretty glam. Breakfast is good value at 3100 for guests. Comes with various dishes to order . Eggs benny excellent.

Like most of Japan, it’s too hot everywhere in the building. Room temperature cannot be set lower than 20 , which when combined with thick bedding is just way too hot and uncomfortable. Usual terrible pillows for Japan with the rocks/rice? at the bottom. For some reason the Japanese breakfast option is gone by about 7 am and everyone was wanting one but they just didn’t make more.

Everything. Perfect location near subway/train stops, Gion , Pontochō and tons of restaurants and shops. This is definitely the area and place to stay for most sightseeing, restaurants, and tourist experiences. The hotel is located on a quaint street with a canal running along it (and what appeared to be cherry trees ..but it was before the bloom so it must be gorgeous when they bloom). We had a deluxe king room. The room was huge, the bathroom …rooms I should say...was also huge (Shower/bath room, toilet room, area with the closets and a double sink area). Everything was first rate in the room. Desk, plenty of plus, good WIFI, comfy bed, and many amenities. Service was top notch. Front desk was very helpful…had them book me a last minute dinner reservation...which I think I got because of them. The front desk is located on the top floor, but during the 12- or so time period they have a desk on the ground floor where someone is greeting people, storing their luggage if their room is not ready, and sending them upstairs to reception when the time came to check in Also, when we left, I had the front desk call a taxi. They gave me a slip to give to the person on at the ground floor desk...who alerted us when the taxi arrived and helped us with our luggage to the taxi. (btw, Taxi to and from Kyoto station cost us between 1,500 and 2,000 yen depending on traffic. We used the taxi due to all our luggage) I cannot say enough about this hotel , the comfort, class, location and service. There is no where else I would recommend to anyone going to Kyoto.

only small complaint was when i went to the front desk once, the person i was speaking with did not quite follow what i was asking (English so so), but the other person at the front desk, who i assume was a manager, overheard her struggling and jumped in and took care of things for me no problem. While he was doing that, i asked the first person if she could change a 10,000 yen note to smaller bills...she asked what kind of change and i said a 5 and 5 1000 notes...she counted out the 5 and the four 1,000 notes...and then got confused about how many bills she needed to do..i said you need one more...and she was still confused . Took her a bit but she finally got it (kind of scary as you dont need to speak English to count the money)

I loved the excellent location, the great design of the hotel and room. The room was spacious, well equipped, and comfortable. The staff were very hospitatable and professional. They had free performances for hotel guests during the weekend - dance and music etc. The view from the top floor (breakfast and reception) was magnificent.

The breakfast was a bit of a let down for such a hotel. They made it so you choose the main dishe and then the rest is buffet. This makes the service very slow and ineffective. The buffet itself was not very big and didn't have many choices, compared to other hotels in the same price range. The coffee was again not at the buffet but served to the table and was not very good. Also took forever to get it.
