The location was great, walking distance to the city and markets. Loves that the room had a kitchenette with washer and dryer, room was spacious and very clean

There is no room service for food and if you want breakfast it needs to be ordered 4 days ahead in saying that access to food is easy and close by

Breakfast was a continental style + hot soup, that was different every day. Really nice to have it delivered to the room every morning. Staff were amazing and friendly. The hotel is on a side street so there's very little noise at night and the room was immaculate. There were complimentary laundry machines in the building too! Location in Kyoto is great - short walk from Shijo station which gives easy access to Shinkansen/intercity trains from Kyoto station so it's easy to get in or take a day trip to Osaka. Walking distance (30 min) from Kiyomizu temple via Sannenzaka, Gion, etc. Lots of good food nearby - both higher end restaurants as well as walk-in counters. Highly recommend - this was my first time in Japan and this stay was a highlight.

I have spent my working life staying in top quality hotels around the world, and the Machiya Ebisuya in Kyoto would have to be among the best. The rooms are beautifully designed, spacious by Japanese standards and the bed was ultra comfortable. Complimentary tea and coffee facilities were provided in the lovely guest lounge area and there was a complimentary guest laundry. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful giving us some good tips on places to eat. The hotel is well located and within easy walking distance to many attractions as well as train and subway stations and good eateries and craft breweries/bars. The location is also super quiet.

Love love love the space for what I'm paying. Clean and tidy space. The complimentary coffee sachets in the room were really delicious. ;3 However it might be a little far for ppl who cannot walk long/far. Very quiet area. There is a nice Malaysian gentleman who works there that helped us a lot with recommendations and insights to the area. Easy communications so thank you. Also helped us call for a taxi/cab to leave. The staff also accommodated our request to have our luggage delivered to the next hotel very smoothly. As we had to leave before the Yamato Delivery morning timing, we arranged to process the luggage the night before in order to make it work.

There was no breakfast option. But it was due to the pandemic. Hope they have it back soon! The only coffee machine available there ... Can be nicer. Haha.

Modern inside yet traditional looking outside guest house. Quite location yet central within walking distance to main shopping street, Nishiki market, access to public transport, access to restaurants. The property facilities used are laundry, tea lounge, baggage delivery city to city. Staff are friendly, helpful, smiling and polite. My family bedroom is spacious, both modern bathrooms tub with Japanese bathrooms combined, separate toilet. Kitchen facilities are sufficient for takeaway dine in. Family room comes with a washing machine cum dryer.

Beautiful, clean, comfortable room in a great location for restaurants and a short 10-15 minute walk to the busier areas of Kyoto. Staff were friendly and professional and spoke good English. Good laundry/drier machines, free to use. Overall, an excellent stay.

Walls are thin - we could hear the family in the next room quite loudly, even though they were only talking. If you're a light sleeper, bring earplugs.

The room was great, it was cozy, spacious and had a nice section with tatami floor, separated by shoji doors. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Suga-san and Naruse-san for all the tips about Kyoto! The hotel was conveniently located, only a few minutes of walk away from the Nishiki Market and Nintendo Store Kyoto. When we come back to Japan we would love to stay again at The Machiya Ebisuya!

What a pleasant surprise! On a back street 10 mins away from the nearest station but with really good spacious rooms with modern interiors. Only six rooms per floor made it feel like a hostel more than a hotel with regards to the amount of people there. Everything was impeccable.

Nothing really bad about this place. The staff were extremely service minded and spoke very good English. The washers were free to use and room amenities were good. We didn’t try breakfast so not sure what that was like. Only downside was that it was 10 min walk from anywhere.

Fresh reno and great room size for family, bathroom and toilet are as new condition. Have builtin washing machine/dryer not require using shared washing facilities. Location is normal hidden in quiet street however around have 3x 7-11 store you wont worry much about food at night

The website photo of the room is different than actual, thought the setup are more jap trad but its normal modern setup which led me disappointed. Dryer place are too fit when operate causing loud noise. Better have more English translation of each facilities like toilet control. The tea room on ground level staff didnt introduce I think its very nice place to short stay at quiet time feel the Kyoto culture. Seem staff after welcoming guest then hiding in back office.. too shy?? :)

Very cute and well located. Nice room and very nice bathroom with bath and shower. We had space because I booked a room for 3 even if we were only 2. Super nice staff who helped us with reservations and recommendations. I'd recommend this hotel ! Simple but very nice :)

Nothing bad ! Just be aware there is no breakfast area just a common area for coffee.
