Kawamotoya is a beautiful hotel nestled in the heart of Nozawa Onsen. Due to an injury I sustained, I needed to move my trip out by 2 months - the staff happily assisted with this. On that note, that staff were excellent - always happy to help out and provide tips and pointers regarding things to do. Breakfast at Harding's cafe was good - the chef's happily swapped out bacon from the dishes and replaced it with salmon to assist with dietary requirements. Note that Kawamotoya has 2 private onsen's which are open 24 hours. This is what truly makes the stay special. I know that Japanese cultures values public bathing, but as a muslim where modesty is key, a private onsen allows one to still enjoy the experience without having to worry about any values being comprimised. Additional items we enjoyed: - The rooms were spacious and well equipped - The washing machines and dryers were free to use during the green season

Will only list 2 points which can potentially be improved upon: 1. Room service is scheduled every three days which can be a bit tricky if you're coming from a hotel with daily room service 2. Breakfast options are slightly limited - a la carte items are mainly savoury in nature, and guests are limited to one drink valued at 550 yen which can be a bit stifling (a hot chocolate is 600 yen)

Brilliant modern renovation of a traditional ryokan - modern Japanese chic with lots of added facilities that would make a longer stay enjoyable (mini kitchen in the bedroom, communal lounge/cinema room with surround system off the lobby). Breakfast was great value and very, very tasty. Proper barista coffee too. Staff friendly and take an interest in the guests. We were truly impressed.

We could only find one restaurant open in town - if dinner had been available in the hotel, we'd have jumped at the chance.

Very friendly and efficient service. The appartement was newly renovated and well furnished. Location is great to walk in the city and head to various restaurants. It is a 15mn walk to the main gondola though. The hotel provides a shuttle in the morning but none to return. We enjoyed the coffee shop on lobby level. It is a gaijin friendly venue

Black out curtains in the room are needed. The venue has cosy family private sento which we enjoyed yet no onsen.

Very pleasant. Location is in the heart of the city The lift up the hill in the morning made the access to the skiing simple and the walk down the hill in the evening was through the village and all the shops. Dangerous to the pocket. Wonderful cafe in house providing great breakfasts The Blat was extraordinary, had it every day. The family loved all the cakes, unfortunately this meant multiple deserts per night.

One side of the bed has the aircon And cage Not too great if you are tall.

The room is incredibly cozy, modern and clean, elevated with an amazing view. Plenty of space with excellent amenities. Very nice cafe just downstairs as well as very helpful and friendly staff. Location is awesome too, walking distance to literally everywhere

The place is amazing—nothing I can complain about. However it does leans towards the pricier side

Spotless clean, well equipped kitchen, great hot pools on site plus a public onsen two steps away, lovely and helpful English speaking staff, delicious pastries at the cafe, very quiet (although we didn’t have any neighbours during our stay), perfect location to see some stuff in the area within an hour drive, free laundry facility, very comfortable beds. In short, we had an amazing stay and will gladly come back. This is a very well run property.

A stunning apartment. Luxuriously sized bed with awesome bedding. Netflix in both the lounge and the bedroom. Coffee machine and lovely breakfast. It was Heaven. Was at the base of the village so a long walk up to the ski lifts, solved by transferes at any time in the van. In house private Onsen for those who are too shy to bare all in the ones in the village.

The cleanliness could have been better. Quite dusty and some of the knives had been used and just put back into the knife rack dirty. A small gripe.

Separate bedrooms with en-suite bathroom. High-tech stove with a huge countertop. You can watch your favourite film or drama while snuggling in your bed. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was not a buffet but a good hearty breakfast. The coffee was decent.

The fridge is tiny compared to the vast high-tech stove top. The gym looks abandoned. One of the washing machines is not working. Parking space is rather small.

I loved the hospitality from start to the end. Especially loved how Hannah from reception supported my questions prior to arrival, and Chef Harding and wife for the amazing breakfast every morning!

It was slightly difficult to navigate the narrow roads leading to the hotel, but no issue if we went slow. The toilet cubicle was also quite small, but not a major issue.
