The rooms and facilities were very clean and comfortable. The owner and her staff were very nice and helpful. Breakfast exceeded our expectations. My friends really enjoyed the in-house onsen. Location is close enough to everything but far enough from busy area so it was both convenient and peaceful. The owner helped us make a booking at a local vegetarian restaurant which was one of the best meals we had. Daily towel and pyjama changes were great. Traditional decor is beautiful. I would definitely recommend.

My family is not used to bathing with others in the shared bathroom (which is usual practice in Japanese Onsen) so we just check there is no one before we go in and because the hotel is not that big there is usually a time when we can use the bathroom in private. This is just us and not necessary an issue for other hotel guests.

The Staff were amazing, very helpful. My 87 old mother wasn't accustomed to sleeping on a futon on the floor, the staff brought up extra mattresses for her. The staff were most concerned with my mother who stayed in the room while the rest of the family went skiing. asking after her needs during the day. We were given free tickets to the Fire Festival by the hotel. the hotel also provided discounted lift tickets and referred us to a ski rental shop where we were given another discount (due to where we were staying). The room was huge and very nice. Our room had its own toilet and my sons room had a toilet and shower. Not all rooms had these facilities. The hotel had it's own hot baths, very nice after a day skiing. There were also hot baths scatter around the town. The Hotel dinner Was an incredible, dining experience and i would highly recommend anyone staying here to take part in the dinner. We didn't have the breakfast, which were told by another guest was unfortunate, we had missed an experience. That left us disappointed we hadn't taken the opportunity.

I cant think of a thing. maybe the walk up the hill to the ski resort.

Modern, newly refurbished (with a lift!) yet still keeping to the traditional Japanese elements of a Ryokan. We loved that they offered a semi raised bed. Bedding was really comfy and our room was really spacious. Didn't have any issues with the in-room amenities at all! Amazing variety of local breakfasts every morning and great that you could have your own private breakfast area. Loved the samue provided and that it was refreshed daily! Onsen was kept very clean with a lot of amenities (spent a lot of time there!) Discount off ski passes & ski equipment if you're a guest here so you don't need to book your equipment in advance - just get it when you're there using their discount! Thank you to Yukiko-san and her family for opening their home to us and being so helpful.

If you have a lot of/big bags it is a bit of an uphill and downhill walk to get to, so just be prepared! But it didn't bother us.

A traditional Ryokan accomodation with warm Japanese hospitality. Yukiko and her husband are amazing hosts. We return to Nozawa as often as we can for ski season. This was our first stay with Nakajimya, we loved it! A large and spacious room that was beautifully presented and cleaned every day. We enjoyed the Onsen on the first floor everyday with the clean onsen pjs and towel kits. Located at the bottom of the village, it is quiet and peaceful but an easy walk to the centre of town. The ryokan provides a drying room, but never hire skis in town and walk up hill, this is a steep village! Always hire at Hikage and leave your gear on the hill each day. The team here made us feel like family, so welcoming and caring.

If I have to say anything, the beds are hard, but it’s a ryokan so this is to be expected.

This Ryokan was extremely clean & neat. Our bed was very comfortable. The private onsen with lots of toiletries was so convenient and it was a beautiful touch to have freshly washed yukaka (pyjamas) provided in our room every day. I would recommend trying the in-house dinner. It was an array of delicious flavours represented over a variety of dishes of Japanese cuisine (with a great explanation of each dish).

Yukiko was a wonderful host (owner also). The location was great. It was quiet and relaxing. The onsen was lovely and clean. Fresh robes delivered every day to your room. Good restaurants near by. You can also buy discounted lift tickets at reception. Beautiful fluffy doonas but remember its traditional ie futons, so you might need to ask for an extra one if you arent used to this type of mattress

* traditional ryokan with tatami mats and futons * comfortable temperature in winter * onsen within the premises

* no offer from the hotel to arrange dinner or breakfast - Nozawa also doesn’t have many good options for that - especially quick ones since you want to get to the slopes/tours. We made the reservation well in advance - they could have offered, we just got redirected on arrival to other places in the village

Traditional-style ryokan with very elegant look. Fresh tatami floors in our room and everything was well maintained or new. Friendly helpful staff. Good location - in the heart of the village and a short walk to Yu-road travelator to Hikage gondola (you can leave your ski gear overnight at the ski hire places there, so a bit of a walk to the ryokan is fine). Good in-house onsen, and several other public onsens nearby.

No meals (but lots of options nearby). Not much hanging space in the room. Somewhat expensive, but a high-quality property.

A taste of traditional Japanese hospitality. Spacious room and great to have the on-site onsen. We really enjoyed our traditional Japanese dining experience in the dining room. The hostess speaks quite good English and it was interesting to learn about the food of the region, dining etiquette, and sake!

We were on the second floor, and the footsteps of the people above us were quite a disturbance.

Loved most things about this place and would definitely recommend it to others. The owners are great people and helpful.

I didn't check the pricing of other places closer to the ski fields, and if the quality was equally as good, I would consider them. However, if they are far more expensive, I would not hesitate to stay at Nakajimaya Ryokan again.
