3 minutes walk from the ferry peer to get to the art islands. Minh the receptionist is absolutely amazing, eager to help and ready to answer any questions about where to eat, how to get to the islands and just to talk. He and the easy-going cook Momo both speak fluent English. I had a sort of continental breakfast at the cafe in the inn which was a pleasant change from the Japanese style breakfasts I had had over the previous 2 weeks. The salmon bagel was generously laden with smoked fish. The coffee was excellent, too. My personal detached bathroom was clean. The coin laundry was cheap.

The room design is very basic, with signs of wear and tear everywhere and a tiny window. I would say this is the level of an individual room in a hostel, albeit certain nice decor elements. A detached bathroom is not very convenient, as I had to dress every time I had to go there. I had a good sleep on the futon bed. The room was warm. I was probably the only guest when I stayed so no sound disturbed me at night.

The staff were absolutely brilliant they provided lots of information and made us feel really welcome and comfortable. The breakfast was fabulous and the coffee was excellent. The best coffee in all of Japan . They also offer a great breakfast menu with great options for foreigners the bathrooms are really good and clean. Also having washing facilities was a really big bonus the proximity to the ferry is so good. You can relax over brekkie and make the early ferry for the islands still easily . We were so happy with UNO port inn we stayed 3 nights.

Just the futon on the floor was not great but was still pretty good. If I was younger would not be an issue but when you are over 60 years not so easy to get up and down - but good exercise I guess!

We first took note of the exceptional location and pricing for Uno Port Inn. And yes, both are terrific. Having now stayed there, we can enthusiastically add the staff to the unqualified attributes of Uno Port Inn. From our warm greeting upon arrival to our goodbye picture the day of departure, every interaction with the staff members was not only cordial in the way one would hope of a lodging establishment, but in fact much more. The staff took a personal interest in our itinerary, offered meaningful suggestions and feedback, followed up after the fact to ask how our excursions went, provided recommendations, tended to any need we identified for our room, and above all were authentic and genuine in their engagement with us. Further, every inquiry we made of Uno Port Inn in advance, via email, was met with a very prompt, extraordinarily detailed and very meaningful response. We will simply note further that this establishment is clean, safe, comfortable and well-tended. The location is fantastic, impossible to beat for access to the train station, the ferry terminal and the passenger boat departure point. If you are in Uno Port intending to visit the art islands, stay at Uno Port Inn.

The location is perfect 2 minutes’ walk from the train station and 2 minutes’ walk from the ferry All the staff are young very nice and enthusiastic people, willing to help and with perfect English (a rare thing in Japan) The room was beautiful Japanese style and also a big room (also rare in Japan) The breakfast was good

The private bathroom is not in the room so every time we had to get dressed (with the robe and sandals that the hotel provides) walk along an aisle to get to a common bathroom’s area where every room has his own bathroom. This was quite inconvenient and I didn’t understand it when I booked.

Uno Port Inn is pleasant but Minh and Long, who manage it, are wonderful. They both made sure our stay was comfortable and our adventures on the art islands were easy. The breakfast options include bagel sandwiches, yogurt and pastries. The location is right across from the ferry landing. There is a washer dryer in the building and the hotel is close to restaurants and convenience stores.

The hotel, especially the common areas, could use some TLC. My room was the priciest and yet small even by Japan standards -- I couldn't open my 22 inch suit case.

The place feels nice and cozy. Room is well equipped, has coin laundry so very convenient. Also they have English-speaking staffs, so foreigners will have no problem staying here. Staffs are really friendly and helpful. They will hand out a guide for you with ferry time table to the islands and give some brief explanation on what to do around. As a Vietnamese, it was really nice that they also have Vietnamese staff, especially Minh-san who helped me a lot. He introduced me to this place and I must say that it is worth the price, with the strategic location it has.

We had a wonderful stay at Uno Port Inn. From the moment we checked in, the staff were so welcoming and explained thoroughly how to arrange our days best visiting the Art Islands, which has been really helpful. We ordered breakfast and that was served in the morning promptly at the arranged time, and was fresh & tasty with excellent coffee. Our room wasn't big, but was very clean and comfortable- love the quirky decor! There is a washing machine/ tumble dryer/ microwave/ hot and cold water dispenser/ tea and coffee all available for guests to use. The hotel is conveniently located, just across the road from the ferry terminal, and it is the team that made our stay even better. On the whole, the ideal base to explore the Art Islands, highly recommended!

Staff were wonderful, very friendly and helpful at check in. We picked out our breakfast and bagels for the morning. Location was perfect for catching the ferry the next day to Naoshima art island. Room was on the small side, but we put our luggages under the bed. The design was quirky and matched the art sensibilities of our fellow travelers. Breakfast bagel was made fresh for us in the morning. Great restaurant suggestions for Uno town within walking distance.

bed not the most comfortable, kinda lumpy but we were very tired and slept well.

-Really stellar staff that goes out of its way to help you out with moving further on (as most people do); they don't take it personally that you're more interested in the art islands of Naoshima and Teshima and are an invaluable resource! Thanks, Minh! -Good breakfast, just have to order ahead of time. -Individual private bathrooms. -Rooms were normal Japanese size (I think the other reviewers are just complaining and not used to it). -Location was PERFECT. Literally 90 seconds from the train station, next to a 7/11, and across from the port. What more could you ask for?

This is a wonderful place. The owner Max has created something very special here. We thought it would be kind of a back-packer place, but it was more of a travel community hub. There were families, couples, and solo travelers all staying there together. We stayed in Uzo, one of the traditional ryokan rooms upstairs with a patio and view of the port. It has it's own private bathroom down the hall. We didn't see the rooms downstairs but heard that they have traditional western style beds. Our room had A/C and was very comfortable. It's the largest room in the Inn. They have exceptional staff who went out of their way to make sure we could find places to eat for dinner in town, that we had the ferry schedules for Naoshima and Teshima islands, helped with onsen massage appointments, helped us with filling out the luggage forwarding forms for drop-off at 7-11 next door, and even helped us with a call to a restaurant we found in Osaka to book a reservation for the evening we departed. Everyone there was terrific, but we had the most interactions with Long and Pham - two great guys from Vietnam. We had fantastic New York style bagels that they make on premises with house-smoked lox. Max spent years living in Brooklyn and has the bagel and latte thing totally dialed in. We also did laundry while we were there, which was great. If you stay there, make sure to visit Setouchi Onsen Tamanoyu, which is a 5 minute walk away. The massages and body treatments are fantastic and very affordable.

I can't think of anything we didn't like.
