I stayed at this hostel before and came back because I loved it so much. The staff is lovely and very kind, the house where you sleep has a cozy rustic feel to it. The beds are comfortable and the accommodation has everything you need (towels, hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, well equipped kitchen). You can do laundry for a small additional cost as well as rent a bike and store luggage for a few days. The location is nice if you are coming from Narita and is very close to Ueno park. Couldn’t think of a better place to start our vacation in Japan. ありがとうございます!
During autumn/winter it can get a bit cold in all the rooms of the house.

A truly rare find, this guesthouse is absolutely steeped in charm and rustic beauty. I couldn't believe I was still in the heart of Tokyo. Everything was immaculately clean and the staff were wonderfully attentive and helpful. I arrived a bit too early for check-in and they kindly looked after my heavy suitcase so that I could explore the area unencumbered. When the bar opens up, both the staff and the regular locals come to relax and chat together, it's a very warm and welcoming space to wind down at the end of the day. There are a a couple of bakeries close by where you can grab some delicious breakfast. I recommend walking in the direction of Ueno park to enjoy your pastries under the trees and grab a coffee from the Starbucks (most cafes don't seem to open until 10 or 11, so chain coffee places are your best bet for an early caffeine boost that isn't from a vending machine. Of course the guesthouse has a fully equipped kitchen you can use as well. I highly recommend this spot for your Tokyo travels. 2 minutes walk from iriya station, a relatively quiet and calm local area, and speaking as a solo female traveller, a very safe environment. Thank you Toco Guesthouse! I will be visiting again some day.
I totally appreciate that the building is old, and so it is likely to rattle in the wind. That being said, if there is anything that can be done to reduce the rattling noise of the windows in the girls dorm, I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated by the sleepy guests.

Everything about Guesthouse Toco was just as I had hoped. The staff were lovely, attentive people who offered a warm welcome and felt available if needed. The guesthouse itself is really beautiful and well kept. All the facilities were just as I needed them to be and the breakfast was almost too generous - but when I asked for just one onigiri they offered to just make them smaller which was perfect. Really the best way to arrive in Tokyo and also to be sad about leaving.
The second time I stayed some of the guests were a little loud - the walls are made of paper and the first time I stayed everyone was so respectful, but the guesthouse can't help that! But if you want a place where you can be sociable after 11pm/12am maybe choose somewhere else? For me I like that there is peacefulness.

Guesthouse Toco was fabulous, I would absolutely stay again. I stayed two nights in the female-only dorm, which contained six beds arranged as bunkbeds with curtains you can pull around them for privacy. Each bed has a plug with a regular outlet (Japanese-style, which is the same two prongs as many US outlets, although if you have a three-prong, grounded plug, you would need an adapter) and two USB outlets, and a small desk-style lamp, which was very convenient. The bed linens are included in the price and you can borrow towels and do laundry for a fee. One drink per night at the small bar is also included, and I tried the plum liquor which was very nice. The staff were all pleasant and helpful and there were no significant language barriers despite lack of Japanese language proficiency. The female-only dorm has air conditioning from a minisplit, as well as a fan to help circulate the air, which was perfect because it was hot outside. The showers were clean and not cramped and slippers are provided since you are expected to leave your outdoor shoes at the entrance to the sleeping areas. The toilets are the fancy Toto ones with built-in bidets, which, to an American, is luxurious. The location is convenient, a 13 minute walk from the JR Yamanote line, Uguisudani Station, and is in a quiet neighborhood. A nice 30 minute walk to the Senso-ji temple goes by plenty of bakeries and restaurants and I specifically enjoyed Banninriki, 5 minutes away, which specializes in a "dry ramen" style called Aburasoba. The garden is beautiful and you can sit and enjoy but use the bug spray they have, because there are mosquitoes!
If you are tall and a slow learner like me, you will probably smack your head into the top of the door frames repeatedly, but that is the price you pay to enjoy the traditional architecture style!

The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel at home right away. The facilities are absolutely stunning — the guesthouse is a beautifully preserved 100-year-old traditional house full of charm and character. We loved the welcome drink offered every evening, which created a cozy and social atmosphere at the bar. The breakfast was delicious and thoughtfully prepared, even if served a bit later in the morning. Although the location isn’t central, it’s conveniently right next to a metro station, making it easy to get around the city. Overall, a unique and memorable stay!
The garden is charming but could use a bit of maintenance to bring out its full potential. We stayed in the dormitory, which naturally comes with a few downsides. While it’s mostly up to the guests to be considerate, it might help to set a few more clear rules to encourage respectful behavior — for example, asking people not to turn on the main light early in the morning or to avoid snoozing their alarm repeatedly out of respect for others in the room.

Overall experience at toco. was brilliant! I would recommend to anyone who is looking to experience a traditional Japanese guesthouse, also complimented with a super delicious traditional Japanese breakfast. The staff are super friendly and the atmosphere was very vibey. I met other travellers who I had great time hanging out with and we are still in touch. Beds are also very comfortable - I suffer from nerve compression and the beds were comfortable enough not to trigger any pain. The place is also very clean. Location is slightly far out from the centre, but it was not a problem as connections are very good. The metro line is just around the corner and there are loads of sightseeing sites 20 minutes walk away such as Ueno Park or Senso-ji temple.

It was very aesthetic and the staff was super nice. Also the location is very close to a subway station and it is in walking distance to ueno park. There is an Onsen three minutes from the property and a 7-eleven five minutes away. You are able to leave your luggage at the property when arriving early or when you do something before leaving. The showers are also very nice.
The walls to the outside are quite thin so it gets cold sometimes especially at the toilets. And because there is a fire station two houses away you could hear that at night when they drove somewhere (it did not bother me because it was only a few seconds when they started driving)

This is a quaint property in a relatively quiet neighbourhood in Tokyo. It is a traditional Japanese style home that has been remodelled into a hostel style. The staff are excellent and welcoming. The bar is a nice place to relax and meet other guests. The bedroom is generally pretty comfortable and has privacy curtains, vital for this sort of accommodation. The location is a bit far away from some of the main attractions and neighbourhoods (Shinjuku, Shibuya etc) but has good enough access to the subway system. In the end, the value for money is exceptional for Tokyo, so if budget is a consideration, this is an excellent option.
Minor quibble, but if you have a top bunk there are gaps around the side of the bed where you possessions can easily fall down onto the lower bunk.

Looooved Toco!!! Property is so beautiful, just like the photos. The staff was some of the friendliest and most helpful we met in Japan. Really good vibe here, the bar is super cute and we ended up hanging out there every night, met lots of other guests and locals (plus the drinks were delicious). We also really enjoyed the neighborhood, ate at some great spots nearby on recommendation from staff members. It’s a bit quieter and felt like a nice enclave compared to other busy touristy areas in Tokyo. It’s definitely expensive, but well worth it in my opinion.

Again amazing experience, after I book a queen ,stayed another in the dorm room ,very quiet and respectful everyone ,I left my precious scarf under bed (be careful easy to slipper under bed ), I was in a hurry to airport and felt so bad with my attitude talking to the staff with broken English ,sorry for all misunderstanding and apologize for the way I talked )they found it and kept for me . I will definitely book again next time I visit Tokyo ,for those lovely girls and cozy stay . This is the meaning of traveling I cherish. Millions thanks ,well done girls I ma proud of u and very thankful for keeping my marriage anniversary scarf .
