Extensive breakfast including porridge, nasi lemak, western pancakes and croissants, fresh fruit, coffee and tea, and eggs to order. Decent sized pool with multiple small areas, and sundeck with deck chairs. My friend had an amazing upper floor suite - my room was a similar size but did not have the modern wood floor and lighting throughout. The location I found was great because it wasn't directly downtown, and it was easy to find Grab to visit nearby places. They have a local guy kind of hanging out a lot in the parking lot, Star, who does reasonably priced tours and pickups throughout Sandakan. Overall the dinner food was decent as well, though perhaps not always hot. I appreciated the mural art reflecting animals around Sandakan, and the educational displays about animals in the region. Overall, a really good visit. The team seemed to communicate really well because they answered all my questions and helped me book local reservations. One more positive - random wild animals creep around the dining area - including some pretty large lizards, as well as many tropical birds. The price point seems very reasonable, and I would stay at this property again.

There were some occasional bad body odor from people in the building, mostly other guests, so I don't fault the hotel at all for that.

- Window looks out to lush greenery. - Spacious - Polite and easygoing staff

- Structual issues with hotel service. Was given a 10% coupon for a Saturday dinner buffet at Plantation Café. Went the same night I checked in only to be told full house and need to reserve. As buffet only available for every Saturday, and I only staying for 3 nights, the coupon was redundant; the lack of coordination between counter service and cafe was a bit bizarre. Second issue, there was no pen/pencil for writing; this posed a problem when I need to indicate my laundry list. - By and large, the above two were not big issues, were in fact very small thing, but it shows the lack of well-rounded planning and an inadequacy in professionalism.

The location was central, only 13km from airport. Room was spacious, facilities were clean. Reception staff were friendly. Big pool kids would enjoy.

Quality and variety for buffet breakfast could be improved. Pastries didn't taste fresh. Breakfast trays were not replenished timely. Had to request a refill even though it was still early. Decor was a bit dated, could do with a renovation to bring up the standard.

Nice property that is close to the city with easy access to suburban areas of Sandakan. The hotel has a very nice pool and have a relaxing feel. The size of the junior suite is amazing with great view from our balcony.

During our stay, due to the Sultan and Sultana visit to Sabah, there were times when we are unsure of the impact on access to/from the hotel. As we were staying for 6 nights, some communication with hotel guests should have been issued to ensure we know what to expect.

We arrived late and were heading out early the next day to undertake a 4 day tour. The staff were used to this and able to help us with storing our luggage until our return. Cannot fault the room which was large and had everything we required. We had food at the bar area on our late arrival which was excellent and when we returned we visited the Chinese restaurant which again was excellent and great value. Pool area was enjoyable and vast.

The breakfast was not great which was surprising as everything else was excellent. We had an early flight when we were leaving the 2nd time and could not rouse the reception staff. Eventually found someone who woke them up. A bell at the desk would be helpful or a phone/number to ring.

The hotel was bigger and fancier than we thought. Great facilities overall, lots of options for breakfast (including some vegan), the staff is very friendly and helpful, there's a beautiful pool and great room service. The room has an outdated style that doesn't match the overall style of the hotel, which was a bit surprising, but it is spacious and the beds are super comfortable, the shower is great. We stayed at Sabah Hotel before going to Kinabatangan and we were gonna stay in a different hotel on our return. That second hotel was terrible, so we happily re-booked Sabah and went back to their cozzy rooms. Would 100% recommend it and stay there again.

It's far from city center or any tourist attraction, so you can't really walk anywhere. You must grab a taxi or stay at the hotel.

This is definitely a four-star hotel based on hotel appearance, pool & gym, and breakfast (as well as the professionalism of the hotel manager to correct any issues !!) - Junior Suite was spacious and clean with a comfortable bed / however the shower was weak and the cable television was intermittent - also the spacious balcony had no shade and broken deck furniture - overall a relaxing stop-over hotel

the location is out-of-town (you can only eat and drink at the hotel) - the main restaurant food is good (drinks are expensive) - but the on-site chinese restaurant was awful ..

the staffs are helpful and friendly. The room is spacious and comfortable, we got the forest above the roof but it’s really nice cos it’s at the 7th floor. i love that u can communicate with them via whatsapp and requested for a simple birthday surprise. They quickly responded and the bed was decorated when we came in.

the bathroom was not so clean, especially the bath tub. Had to clean it myself before using, grimes and soap suds. The shower gel and the shampoo was not refilled cos we got it almost empty, my friends in the other room had theirs empty.

Huge, well maintained pool. Breakfast buffet pretty standard for higher end hotels in Asia. Room very spacious and looked like it was recently updated. The staff was unfailingly smiling, engaged and helpful. Really liked that. All good.

We noticed that if you wanted to exchange cash (ie.US$), it was highway robbery on the part of the hotel. Almost 25% less than going to an ATM or an authorized money exchange. Very bad!

Nice relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff. The pool area and tropical flora surroundings was a great welcome to Sabah on our arrival in Sandakan ahead of our trip deeper into the rainforest, we even met a large monitor lizard wandering around the pool area. Rooms were large and comfortable. Only a very short Grab ride down into Sandakan, but necessary given the heat and limited pavements.

Nothing really, only downside is that you can't have an alcoholic drink by the lovely poolside, only in the restaurant.
