I plan to elaborate on our experience, but in two words - it was great. The apartment - we had unit 3, with 2 bedrooms - was quite beautiful in its living room. OK, let's add something specific: Location - it is for sure somewhat off the beaten path: most tourists concentrate along 5th or 10th streets, while this one is as far as 45th! My comment is that there is nothing about the location to worry about: it is still a walking distance from the beach and ADO bus station, it is safe, and it is close to local restaurants and a big grocery store. The property itself: It definitely has a European-style touch - beautiful, functional, and convenient. Additional note for remote workers: it has a huge 6-person table sufficient to accommodate 2 working professionals with 2 laptops and 4 extra portable monitors; the internet was fast to handle both of us. Communication: Well, all in-writing gets translated into English, but all in-personal communication is in Spanish. I know very basic Spanish, I like to practice it, so for me it was not a problem. Also, the gatekeeper, Angel (and his associates) is a very nice person, who tries his best to address any issue.

They do have a few annoying quirks: you have to buy your trash bags (bolsas de basura?), and toilet paper. You have to provide a pretty big deposit in cash (which was a big inconvenience for me).

I had a super late check in due to problems at my previous hotel, and the hosts were right on top of it, meeting me at 11:30pm with keys in hand. The apartment at La Ceiba that I had booked wasn't ready, so they put me in the big 3 bedroom house with the pool instead for the night. One look at it and I asked if I could stay there the entire time instead, so they worked it out and met me the next day to sort out the details. I had the BEST stay at this place and was very sad to leave! The location is a little off the beaten path, which I actually preferred, having been to Playa many times staying in the midst of the hustle and bustle. Having this villa to retreat to every day was such a blessing. Having the private pool to myself was just amazing, and being that I had a dog with me, the walled courtyard couldn't be beat. I loved the privacy and felt SO at home here. The kitchen was nice, fully stocked with all the utensils you'd need. The AC worked well if you need it (I just turned the bedroom unit on at night). There is a security guard right on the corner of the building (outside) which added a nice sense of security. My dog even escaped one night (my fault) and the security guard caught her and kept her inside his booth until I got home, which I am forever grateful for. From now on, I'm only coming to Playa if this house is available. Everything was smooth from start to finish.

We really loved our stay at Villas La Ceiba that we extended our booking twice so instead of 2 nights we stayed for about 6 weeks! The location is great. It's easy to walk to 5th Avenue where we were attending the language school daily in August. It's also a great base for popping to Las Americas/Central Maya shopping malls or just popping down to Tulum/up to Cancun. We felt really safe and secure with the large gates and security cameras. The staff were pleasant and accommodating. The communication with the property was always excellent. We used google translate when talking or making arrangements in person which worked fine. The wifi speed was great and as we had our pug puppy she loved roaming around the garden and burning off energy. We will be recommending this accommodation to all our friends and family who may want to visit us now we have decided to relocate to Playa del Carmen on a long term basis.

Good value for money as the place is much cheaper than other places. It was nice that we could find a place where we could all stay together but still have our seperate bed rooms. It is a little far away from 5th but still walking distance. Angel the property manager doesn’t speak English but we did our best to communicate with him and he was so friendly and helpful with everything!

Floors were not clean and it smelled moldy around the house. After booking had gone through and payment had been made we received long messages alongside the booking confirmation about costs of things around the house is we broke it. In general a lot of rules and guidelines that wasn’t mentioned in the description when booking. Made us feel uncomfortable before arriving as we were fearing we were gonna be ripped off. Everything went fine though with Angel who takes care of things. The messages were just unnecessary - better to put it in the upfront description.

Location. 15 mins walk to the beach. Enough space for 6 people Private parking

Internet connection is available ONLY on one floor. The second floor is cut off. Not suitable for digital nomad. Property manager responsiveness could be improved. First - there was no reply. Then we were told they would come to check our problem and we never heard from them again.

The house is spacious and has all of the needed amenities.

The first night, I found the house filled with cockroaches. The security came to spray the house the next day, but this only stopped the cockroaches for a few days. After a bit, I saw them again. This is because the doors to outside have gaps at the bottom that are sufficient for cockroaches or other smaller creatures to come in. The house also had geckos. The water pressure is not great, and the showers were not always hot. Also, most properties in Playa del Carmen charge for the accommodation the same price whether one person stays or 2. I had a friend stay over in the house for 1 night (the house has 2 bedrooms) and even though this is not written anywhere in the booking, I was charged $350 extra for this.
