The place itself is fairy-talish and very romantic so if you want to escape from your busy routine to the place where time stands still, Edam is the one. Hotel De Fortuna is very authentic and is situated in the centre. The room was not that big but cosy with everything you need (even the mint tea which you barely find anywhere among the limited selections of teas in the rooms). We had the room on the ground floor overlooking the canal with our own very private and very cosy terrace. There is a parking place near the hotel where you can park your car (knowing how - a tip from the owner 😉) for free. The staff was very sweet and friendly. My husband had a birthday the next day and I asked if I could decorate a table for him. They were willing to help and stay longer in order to satisfy my wish. They even provided all the necessary decorations 🎉💕 The owner congratulated my husband personally and brought us two glasses of bubbles. One of the waitresses after our checkout (we returned to have a cappuccino and a smoothie to the terrace) sang a happy birthday song 💗

There isn't anything I disliked. But if you are accustomed to a double bed with one mattress, the bed can be a bit too soft due to the two mattresses joined together. And the breakfast can be a bit more varied)

The location is quite central. The surrounding is very beautiful with all the channels, houses, and nature. The hotel room was actually a small house which stands directly next to the restaurant area. The staff was friendly and the breakfast (which is served inside the restaurant) included all basics.

The room had a portable AC which was not very effective. We did not figure out how to open the windows, so we needed to open the door to let some air in. The toilet and shower is one small room, where the shower is in a dark corner. The toilet and shower room did not have a window.

Beautiful location, amazing restaurant, plus the hotel and restaurant staff were wonderful. The restaurant food and wine pairings were excellent. I highly recommend the Chef’s Menu with the additional wine selection. The proprietor came by while we were sitting outside each evening eating dinner to check on us and to make sure everything was perfect. It truly was!

The bathroom in our room (#18) had an odd configuration where the sink was outside of the toilet and shower area, but the door slammed into the sink located in the bedroom area whenever it was opened. The door would not open to its full capacity because the sink location prevented full door usage.

Breakfast was good and our host was always there in the morning to ensure we were happy. Dinner was surprisingly good, a delicious meal, well served. Our bedroom was small but had everything we needed and our dog was made very welcome. Edam is a charming town which we enjoyed exploring and we always found a free parking space on the street near to the hotel, to our surprise. Maybe not in high season but we were happy.

The bedding was a little small but when we mentioned it, our host immediately exchanged it for a better fit. We really did not find anything to dislike in this charmingly old fashioned hotel.

Lovely location by the canal. Room had fridge and tea making facilities. Able to leave bikes around the back of the property (outside) and there was e-bike charging facilities. Nice breakfast in the morning. Manager and staff very polite and helpful.

Unfortunately were given the wrong room and the attic room we had was very hot; there was a clunky a/c system that was too noisy to use and the window needed to be propped open; consequently I didn’t sleep very well. Also it would have been nice to have been able to eat there but it was fully booked - a message suggesting the necessity to book would have been good.

I loved the authentic appearance of the historic property. Loved the location having the boat repair and maintenance across the canal from our room. The staff were happy to be of help with anything at all. The food is gourmet 5* on the dinner menu. No hot items for breakfast but everything for continental is covered, fresh and appealing. We appreciated ground floor easy access room. The shower was good pressure and hot. Location in the town was excellent and just a short walk to the main square.

the sounds from other rooms were intrusive. Soundproofing would add immense value to this hotel.

Our 2nd stay here and we love it. Food is excellent. We need the accessibility of a garden room, but (in room 28) the hot weather meant the room was very stuffy, and cramped, and as there seemed no ventilation in the bathroom, leaving the door open added to the overall humidity. We were both exhausted, but very content to spend hours in the hotel's lovely private garden overlooking the canal. Everyone most friendly and attentive.

The ventilation in the room (28). The dash windows are hard to open, and there's no through draft.

Excellent location with wonderful outdoor patio area along the canal. Picture perfect Holland houses and near to everything. The restaurant was so quaint and comfortable. Breakfast was outstanding and we enjoyed both drinks and meals on the patio. All the hotel staff were friendly and helpful.

The rooms are quite small but cozy. If you need a ground floor room, be sure to specify because the stairs are steep! Also we had rooms right beside the outdoor dining area and the noise lasted until 10:00 or later at night. I am sure rooms not in the main building would be much quieter.

Beautiful location in the centre of Old Edam, lovely old buildings. Room was clean and comfortable. We had a room with a pretty outlook over the canal. Very very quiet at night. Breakfast was delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful. Wonderful stay, we would definitely stay again. If you are bringing a car, there is public parking very close by which is limited to 4 hours between 9am and 6pm but unlimited overnight. You will need a blue parking disc for this but the hotel was able to provide one for us to use. There is no parking at the hotel itself.

We absolutely loved everything about this gorgeous little place to stay and the entire town. It was a quiet quaint and pretty hotel where we watched ships sail by from a flowered terrace while we had breakfast or lunch. Our evening meal was delicious and had a good menu to choose from. The property's location is a short drive to many tourist sites and the staff was friendly and helpful. Next time in the Netherlands we certainly stay at De Fortuna again!

The weather? LOL! Everything else was wonderful!
