Beautiful building Amazing views and location, easily accessible Nice breakfast A stay to remember

- Old rooms, renovation, repairs and refurbishment needed - Don't look too close at things or under because you don't want to see the actual state of cleanliness - Slowest elevators I have ever seen in my entire life (really annoying with children especially) - when we were walking down the corridor to our room, we once passed a hotel manager lady talking to the cleaning staff in a really condescending, stressful way. That doesn't make a good, professional impression and maybe also explains the lack of motivation of cleaning staff.

We were pleasantly surprised by The Kurhaus. We already knew the hotel was around 125 years old, a Grand Dame of the late 1800's. With its ocean beachfront LOCATION, convenient to all Scheveningen offers, we expected it to be a very well-used hotel. We always wanted to check it out, so we did, and it EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS. Other than some carpeted areas that weren't perfectly clean due to heavy foot traffic, The Kurhaus was VERY CLEAN. Our ROOM was compact, smaller than expected, but so well-designed, it didn't feel as small as it was. BED and bed linens were GREAT, COMFORTABLE, room very SOUND-PROOF, BATHROOM was PERFECT though a little slippery getting in and out of the deep TUB and it took a few moments to figure out how to turn on the SHOWER. I appreciated the TUB! Our DELUXE ROOM, #465 I think, surprised us with a LOVELY VIEW of the ocean and pier! :-) PUBLIC AREAS of the hotel are very nice, gorgeous BALLROOM, we could "see" the men in their top hats, women in their gowns, beautiful ART everywhere. Tho we didn't have time to use the SPA or POOL (bummer), it was very high quality. In order to eat dinner outside, we chose the Argentinian Steakhouse just outside the hotel, a great choice, but peaked into the hotel's BRASSERIE. It was bustling and high quality. BREAKFAST was GREAT with FRIENDLY, ATTENTIVE service. We PARKED in The Kurhaus lot though a little pricey. The convenience to park just outside the door made it worthwhile. We are fortunate to travel A LOT and this was a very positive stay.

Two comments for Management. We stopped in THE TIDES RESTAURANT the afternoon we arrived for a drink, but service wasn't good. We thought that might be an indicator for how our stay would be. Thankfully, it wasn't. Especially since the terrace is under construction, perhaps THE TIDES shouldn't be open after Breakfast. Also, we never found the WIFI info for the hotel. It would have been nice to have THE FRONT DESK point out where to find this info.

Location: Right in the middle of the boulevard, almost directly on the beach. The rooms were quite spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The staff were mostly very helpful.

The coffee machine in the room wasn‘t very good and we were only provided with decaffeinated coffee. Parking is very pricy and tricky due to high demand. Breakfast is incredibly expensive! We dined out as it was much cheaper. The decor of the rooms is a bit outdated. It was very noisy in the spa/pool area.

The location of the hotel was amazing. Staff albeit a little short handed was so friendly and efficient. Spa is beautiful. The bathrooms were very nice. We had a corner room that was very large. Nice tub! I’ll be honest I read some bad reviews that almost made me cancel. But I’m glad I didn’t. We didn’t have any issues. Would stay again definitely.

Room decor needs to be updated! The carpet design isn’t very appealing. It definitely doesn’t match the rest of the pretty design of the hotel, which is very lovely and grand. There are some other things like the elevators and some repairs to the interior that would really bring up the level of the hotel.

Right on the beach, piers access with plenty of choices for a nice evening out, food, drinks and snacks are very good around the hotel.

Beds are comfy but too squeaky. No mosquito nets on windows and balcony doors. A lot of mosquitos in June! Coffee maker was crap, didn't work. No tea/coffee mugs/cups in the room, only glass cups, one of which shattered inside the cupboard after opening the small door, because it was placed incorrectly.

The building is pretty impressive dating back to XIX century. I highly recommend browsing their visitors' book, very educational. Breakfast was very tasty with a great deal of choice, although they did not seem to have grasped the concept of veganism. The beach in front of the hotel is lovely, particularly, early in the morning when it is not as crowded. There is plenty of choice of restaurants and bars nearby. The SPA is gorgeous.

No vegan options at breakfast. The swimming pool and SPA closed at 8 pm, which was quite early. There was quite a bit of attempted upsale, which was a bit irritating.

Rooms were spacious, well lit and clean. Breakfast was more than adequate and the location was great with easy access to the beach,

The massage at the Spa. My Mother got herself a massage which she rated zero. She felt someone gently rubbing her body than giving her a massage. Perhaps the Massagist was a Trainee , Needs serious improvement.

Very ideal location. Having the beach so close by was a great plus point.

Well we did not had internet services in our room. For such a big 5-star hotel they should have fixed the internet services at least. Another point was about the balcony. I booked the Executive suite on the top floor and the balcony was really dirty. Seemed like it wasn’t cleaned in a long time.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The room were amazing and actually all had some view of the sea. The toiletries seemed of a high quality and the beds exceedingly comfortable. The location, of course, is unparallelled and for that the hotel is good value for money. We all loved the ballroom with the piano and the beach side entrance

The onsite parking was very expensive, given that it was only for hotel guests. We had also requested two twin rooms which we were initially not given but staff were very helpful when we asked to be switched

Location is perfect! Rooms are spacious and comfortable and the staff is friendly and accommodating! Relaxing outside pool terrace was great after the saunas and pools! Saunas are great too!

Breakfast is a bit overpriced and kids’ rates for breakfast would be good. Pool is smaller than advertised, but it was still fun for the children!
