The room is quite big, Surprisingly furniture and environment are old and very vintage, however it is cleaner than I expected. The surrounding outside and common area are very relax. Parking is easy.

The mattress probably a bit out of shape and room to improve. The environment is quiet, but when people chatting at the corridor, sounds can be hear clearly. when wind blowing at the trees outside also can be heard. Room could be a bit warmer for some people, shower as well, but personally I am OK with it.

Beautiful residence once owned and lived in by the mayor of Wanganui. (many years ago) Then it became a rest-home 1951 - 2012. Now for travelers and locals alike who need lodging. Rooms large and airy , Comfortable with a large bathrooms.

I don't know about better, a lodge is just a different style of accommodation, so may be harder to rate.??

Friendly, helpful host who gave us a little tour of this lovely historic house ( of which she is rightfully proud). Beautiful grounds & surroundings, so peaceful yet close to city centre. Good woollen blankets, electric blankets, fan heater soon warmed us up on a rather chilly night. Will stay here again!

No bathmat or small hand towels, face flannels. And with permanent residents here, we weren't sure what mugs etc we could use in kitchen.

Love the warm welcome from Sue and hubby. 4th visit to Hikurangi and i enjoy the mix of having a large, quiet, self contained room with very comfortable bed and ensuite. Sharing the kitchen and 2 lounges is also ok as you can connect in with others staying there. Great location just opposite Kowhai Park and a few minutes drive to either bridge.

Some of the cooking equipment could be renewed and a dishwasher would ensure all plates and cutlery were sparkling clean.

it was very clean, although being a ‘backpacker’ style, many rooms are with ensuite. The community kitchen was great, we could cook our meals, big assortment of pans. Love that ild building with many aisles

There are lots if little outdoor spaces and even a bbq, sadly it was raining so we could not use it. spotless clean, even with a dated building

Shared kitchen facilities are a bit tired. Could do with some local news in the rooms (attractions, restaurants etc)

I stayed here 12 months ago and liked it. Your gear is safe and you get a room rather than a dorm which is a real bonus. It's not a place for trendies but has good facilities and great outdoor spaces.

Nothing. This was just want I needed in terms of a working night away, easy to check in, good shared kitchen to heat some food and have breakfast in the morning.

Lots of space, accessible bathrooms, awesome old woodwork in a lounge area,( though we did nit use it). The hist are very kind and helpful.

The communal kitchen is a bitvyired and the fridges could be improved with newer ones, but they worked.

Good communication for the self check-in. Very friendly hosts with great advice on places to visit or where to eat. Beautiful and comfortable room. Well stocked shared kitchen.
