This second stay was as wonderful as the first one last year, even if we switched from their most expensive to the most affordable room. Same service, same overall experience. Kind ready-to-help staff, able to reserve a table in their restaurants, amazing view from the terrace, tasty breakfast (remember to ask for the espresso). The room was bigger than expected (perk of having a pet with us?) and, even if it's facing the busy streets during the Festa da Castanha, we barely heard anything with the windows closed.

The stairs can be hard to climb for lower mobility guests (it's part of the charm of older buildings though). Tiny outdoor tables made breakfast a bit challenging.

Lovely views from our room's and adjoining communal terrace. Nice 4 poster bed and vibe to room.

Minor but when cycling group eats together for breakfast, there are insufficient chairs so you have to come back later. Plenty of parking by hotel but access road within walls is narrow. Only one of the three restaurants within walls was taking non residents on night we were there as tour groups book ahead

The location was incredible with a short walk to the nearby hill top castle (which is open also at night) and garden. Parking available very close to hotel. Restaurants and a bar were close by. Staff were friendly and so helpful with information. Check in process was smooth with no issues. Room was very clean, nice size with a great bathroom, hot water and good pressure. Our room had a balcony overlooking the town and streets. Hotel has a terrace with an amazing view of the valley. The breakfast was one of the best we had in Portugal with the array and quality of the food. Fantastic value for money.

We honestly cannot find any fault with this location, it was amazing!

Location great so close to the castle but very quiet at night. The staff were very helpful in booking evening meals at a local restaurant and making our stay enjoyable. A good breakfast set us up for the day. Parking was very easy in parking 3 which was immediately outside and always had plenty of room to park. Great views from the terrace.

We were concerned about driving through the walled town to Dom Dinis at the top but it really wasn't too bad as long as you kept the walls on your left. The rooms are rather small but you must expect that in a historic building inside the fortified walls of the town.

Perfect, charming old small hotel perched at the top of this UNESCO walled hilltop village next to the castle. Our room: superior with terrace was simple but stylish with a 4 poster bed, lards tv, fabulous views from the windows and terrace, attractive bathroom with a large stand alone comfortable bath. Very effective heating too! Very welcome as it was rather rainy and cold for the first couple of days. The service from all the women staff was friendly and helpful, towards our dog and advising us on restaurants, and just greeting us as we came and went. As it’s Christmas the whole hotel was decorated attractively making the whole ambience very cosy. The breakfast was good, and tasty and again with helpful staff. It really was the perfect stay. There’s good free public parking right next to the hotel too.

Nothing. We struggled a little to find the hotel the first day following Google maps, because of the very narrow winding streets.

amazing location and view

the hotel should send more specific directions about arriving and parking inside the walls of the old town. we had to stop and phone… it would be easy for them to provide this detail upon booking or a few days prior to your arrival.

If I could give this place 11 out of 10, I would. The check in lady, Anna I believe, was absolutely lovely, and continued to be so as bartender across the street in one of the only cafe/pubs in the hilltop town. We opted for the nicer room with its own terrace, and wow -- what a view. Exactly as the picture show, but more impressive. The room itself had a too-comfy bed and even a bathtub, but what wins is that view. It was too cold to stay out too long (even in July), but we bundled up and sat on the terrace anyway. Literally right around the corner (as in, a 2 minute walk) is the castle, and right outside our terrace was part of the old city wall overlooking Portugal; from the opposite side (the aforementioned cafe), you overlook Spain! If you want to stay in a castle, this is the place to do it! There are only a few restaurants around, so if you're staying longer term make sure to bring a few supplies. There is free parking literally right next door, keeping in mind you do actually drive into the narrow-street castle complex, so having a smaller car is useful. Of our two week road trip in Portugal, this was our favourite stop. You basically have to have a car to get to it, but if you're brave enough to drive up to it (it isn't that bad, but be alert) and don't mind going a bit out of the way, it's well worth it.

Nothing!

Amazing views, fab bed and nice outdoor area in the upgraded room. Also lovely cafe/bar opposite with a very chatty parrot!

Lots of giant flying ants about, which put me off using hot tub and noise from air con unit outside which was on all night, was a shame when you in such a peaceful location . Would have been useful to have clear instructions of how to find property, once inside walled village as cobbles very dodgy on a motorbike

A comfortable inn run by friendly people inside a well-preserved medieval castle situated on top of a mountain with commanding views of the surrounding countryside. Very hard to beat. Across the street is a nice restaurant with a limited but tasty menu, good wine, and excellent service. Breakfast at the inn is also very good. My wife and I loved this place. The only negative, which is completely beyond their control, is the very narrow streets that you have to drive inside the castle to get to the inn. I found the streets to be a little nerve-racking to navigate. But worth the experience!

Best location in town with amazing views. It's right next to the castle and the church, which looked great at night when they're lit up. Very friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. We had the room with the large patio, which we really enjoyed. Very clean hotel. Breakfast was fresh and delicious (great drip coffee, too, which is rare in Europe). Had dinner at their family owned restaurant, which we highly recommend...try their black pig pork.

Not a thing we didn't like. (For those who may need help with luggage, they don't have an elevator, but the staff will help you carry the luggage up.)
