Lovely clean and views over river were stunning. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful.

The only thing that let it down but would not stop me staying again was the breakfast was cold and the toaster needs replacing.

The staff was amazing, everyone who works there was super nice and kind. I love the location of the Hotel, the view of the river was gorgeous, quiet place, very clean, loved the theme of the Hotel. The breakfast area was very nice and comfy. We will come back to this Hotel for sure in our next trip to Porto!

The mattress, for our taste, was a little firm. Please take this like a positive criticism :): The breakfast was nice with different options, but the scrambled eggs (both days), sadly not was tasty at all, had a weird taste and texture, and is my fav thing in a breakfast :(, next day I get the sunny side eggs and since they leave it in a warm place covered, they overcooked. I think that for a 5-star hotel, they can have a person doing the eggs for the clients, is a nice option and guarantee that always is made perfectly :) For the bacon, they can have the options of better done or less done (that all was) some people (like me hehe) like them more crispy :D

Beautiful position overlooking the Douro with great views. The rooms and bathrooms were excellent and well fitted, though storage was limited if staying more than a couple of nights. Lovely to have balconies looking over the river. Staff were very well trained and helpful, and all spoke good English. Julia Borges in the evening restaurant was particularly helpful and friendly, as were the reception team, including Jorges. It was noticed by staff that we were celebrating a big birthday, and gifts were left in the room for us - a great touch, much appreciated. Buffet breakfast was superb, and extra items could be ordered at no charge. Good car parking at no cost.

Evening restaurant was overpriced, and geared to expense account dining - €5 charge for tap water, €3.50 each for bread roll, and all accompaniments to main courses are charged extra. The clientele were a somewhat captive market, as there is no local alternative restaurant.

Value for money, the pool and bar area. Cost of food and drink was reasonable.

Breakfast was the biggest let down. Hot choices not advertised to us just word of mouth. Coffee was horrible and there was only one coffee machine for us to use with a line all the time. Staff were unavailable, plates only cleared if asked. Reception has limited seating and when air crew are awaiting pick up they dominate the seating areas and the breakfast area as well. As paying holiday guests we should not play second place to these corporate guests.

The first thing to say is that the staff were super helpful! We genuinely couldn't fault them. Highly professional, superb proficiency in languages, but also - on the shuttle bus to take us into the city - the driver gave us loads of really great advice about what to see and do, what to avoid, places to go to, places not to go to... He was brilliant. The staff at the desk were equally friendly, and helpful - and had a great sense of fun/humour, which was lovely. The rooms were beautifully clean, the view of the Douro fabulous. Everyone adored the breakfast buffet and the additional attention provided by staff - for example, making fresh coffees, making hot chocolate for the children etc. The location was stunning and the hotel felt really spacious and roomy, with sensational views of the river and the city in the near distance. For travellers wanting to spend all their time roaming the streets and seeing the sights of Porto, they might prefer a hotel within easy reach - but the summer crowds were intense and we were so grateful to be able to escape to our hotel at the end of the afternoon for a lovely swim and relax! The presence of a huge pool was another big advantage that the city hotels don't have; and was a real draw for my children (aged 14 and 11). The kids got quite overwhelmed by the intensity of Porto, so loved having the opportunity to play in the pool or read in the sun as a counter to the madness! There were plenty of sunbeds available at all times, the pool bar was lovely, the barman super friendly and you could order drinks/snacks/lunch poolside each day.

Absolutely beautiful place by the river. We stayed in a room facing the river, so it was a lovely view to wake up to. I must point out we might have been lucky it was not a busy week, so it was very relaxing. Staff were friendly and helpful, with one exception which is not worth menitoning. All in all it is a property veyr worth staying. Very well kept. The hotel itsefl was built from a former Perfume Factory. The decor follows the history on its theme. Amazing breakfast. Loved the restaurant, great food. Lovely staff.

The couple of things that we did not like did not orvershadow how good this hotel and staff are. I rarely praise this much unless it is well deserved and Pestana Douro did live up to its stars. The property is a welcome retreat after walking the city of Porto. We loved the beautiful breakfast and it was a excellent start to our day. We would then walk the riverside path into Porto. This would take about a hour. We would book a ride back to the hotel or walk after exploring the sights. Every afternoon we would sit by the pool and watch the sunset. Then get a Uber back into the city to enjoy a dinner in Porto.

My only recommendation is to have transportation to the hotel if you are arriving at the train station. We arrived after traveling by train from Lisbon and we tried over 4 times to book a Uber to go the short distance to the hotel. There seemed to be a problem with the Taxi drivers and the Uber drivers with no one arriving to help. Taxi at the station would not quote us a rate and Ubers said they were on their way and never showed up. Eventually we just walked with our bags to the hotel. We arrived hot and exhausted. The first beautiful words we heard when arriving at the hotel was do not worry we will take great care of you and you will love your room. A wonderful stay followed. Our stay here was overall very nice! The room had a view towards the river and was light and spacious, with a comfortable bed. The breakfast was tasty, and the hotel restaurant offered good food for reasonable prices. We would definitely come back in the off-peak season.

Some things that could have been better: - The shower water temperature kept changing from cold to hot randomly. - The gym room was directly next to the heated pool area. This resulted in it being really warm and humid, making working out there feel like being in a sauna. Perhaps adding some dehumidifiers and having an AC would be good.
