A Perfect Sunday Roast Getaway! Our recent stay at The Red Lion in Matlock exceeded our expectations in every way. From the moment we arrived, the staff was warm, welcoming, and incredibly helpful. We enjoyed co-owner Lee’s dry scene of humour. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing escape on our anniversary. Our room was clean and comfortable. The Sunday roast carvery, wow! The restaurant was fully booked so an advance booking is recommended. The selection of meats was cooked to perfection, tender and succulent, with a fantastic selection of roasted vegetables and light, fluffy Yorkshire puddings. It was, without a doubt, one of the best carvery lunches we’ve had for a long time. The location of The Red Lion is also a huge plus. Matlock itself is a beautiful town with plenty to explore, and the pub's central location makes it an ideal base for discovering the surrounding area. We had a day out at nearby Bakewell, and another day we enjoyed a walk to Lumsdale Falls. Overall, our stay at The Red Lion was exceptional. The combination of friendly staff, comfortable accommodation, and a truly outstanding Sunday roast carvery, the on-site micro brewery (my favourite was the Giddy Edge IPA), makes this a must-visit. I wholeheartedly recommend The Red Lion to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable getaway in Matlock. We can't wait to return!

Breakfast (Full English) was excellent and served by friendly staff in comfortable space. Room was clean and comfortable. Excellent bar with seven real ales (three guests and four from Moot, the pubs own brew which were top class). About half a mile from railway station and main part of town, however the proximity of the bus stops to the pub (50 yards) meant with a little planning the walk from town could be avoided. All in all 10 out of 10 and highly recommended.
Can't in all honesty find anyththing I didn't like about the Red Lion. One consideation if you are using public transport, (like I did), is that The Red Lion is a good half mile from the railway station and main part of town, however the proximity of the bus stops to the pub (50 yards) meant with a little planning the half mile walk from town could be avoided.

Superb value for money. We stayed in Room 6 which was spacious, comfortable and well furnished. Slept really well and was quiet once the pub had closed. Large bathroom and walk in shower. Breakfast was excellent value. Hosts very friendly and welcoming. Thank you for a great stay.
Tiny details- we didn’t need all the chairs and more lighting would be good.

Very welcoming, all the staff were friendly and very helpful. Room was clean had everything you need including kettle tea & coffee for that all important first or last drink of the day, beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful would recommend if your not a big eater first thing in the morning you ask for a smaller full English which I did on our second morning as I had to leave half of my breakfast the first morning as delicious as it was leaving good food is just a waste. We had our evening meal twice in the restaurant and all I can say is the food quality and quantity was excellent, first evening we ordered the steak deal x2 8oz Rump streaks with all the trimmings including a bottle of wine £38 what a bargain and the streak was one of the best we had eaten for a long time, would recommend you book your table as it gets very busy and seemed to be very popular with the locals.

This was our second stay and again we had a great time. The room was really comfortable & the food is excellent here with a really good breakfast. The pub is situated just off the town centre but is only a 5 minute walk away.from all the shops, pubs & restaurants. There are lots of walks from the town and there is no need to take the car out if you fancy a day off driving. The staff are friendly and welcoming which adds to the experience. We will definitely return.
The only small thing for me is that it would be nice to have bigger bath towels as the ones in the rooms are quite small. Nothing else.

The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. Luckily the window opened to allow a breeze in as we came on the hottest day of the year so far. The breakfast was excellent. One of us had a cooked meal, one had cereal and toast and both were generous portions, nicely presented. The bar area is lovely, lots of places to sit, a large tv at one end of the room but quieter seats at the other. There are 2 large outdoor areas with plenty of seating. The pub is very popular so there is a nice buzz - can be a little noisy if you go early to bed as the window was over the courtyard. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Overall we were pleasantly surprised about just how good this B&B is.
The building is locked at night and when we tried to get out in the morning it was as we hadn't realised the room keys also unlocked the outer door - I do worry what would happen in the event of a fire.

It was a lovely, friendly pub with a microbrewery, real fire and the most amazing food! Parking onsite, lovely beer garden and the room was clean and very comfortable. Staff were really friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed our stay. We visited Chatsworth House and after a long rainy day exploring it was lovely to sit bedside the fire, drinking ale and relaxing with a lovely supper! Thank you to all the staff xxx
Nothing it was perfect! I just wish children could stay in the hotel rooms as I be booking again sooner!

Bar was lively and friendly, a beer lover's dream (there's an on site brewery). Parking was easy. Location is great - just a short walk into the centre of Matlock (and very convenient if you're going to Matlock Town FC). Room was excellent, large and comfortable with a large shower room. Staff were universally friendly and efficient.
Breakfast was a bit of a disappointment, with a restricted menu. Unsurprising I guess, as I stayed Saturday and Sunday nights and the hotel was quiet.

This is purely my opinion but for me the bed was just a little too firm. I didn’t sleep too well. Having said this, this is the only fault I can give the place. The location was ideal for anyone visiting the area and the staff were lovely and friendly. Breakfast was great too. Unfortunately we only had a short stay and so we never got to try the restaurant for an evening meal but the place was busy so they must be doing something right.

The Red Lion is lovely. A real locals pub which we like. Breakfast was excellent, freshly cooked and staff were friendly and accommodating. We also had an evening meal in the restaurant, it was excellent, a really high standard of food and good value. The room is traditional, oldy worldy, we had a four poster bed!
It was great although I was hoping for a bath and we only had a shower, but I didn't check beforehand so my fault. Maybe some rooms have a bath? The bathroom was huge though and looked freshly renovated.
