Lovely, sympathetically restored early Victorian building, with welcoming hosts. Located right in the centre of Matlock Bath, which meant that a small amount of traffic noise was inevitable, even in a quiet location at the rear of the property, but really nothing too obtrusive (it was quiet at night) and a general air of calm relaxation. The car park, with a space for every room, and outdoor tables were a bonus. We enjoyed sitting at the front, under the Monkey Puzzle Tree and watching the world go by. Our room was clean and comfortable. An appetising breakfast, in a tastefully decorated dining room with plenty of options, prepared in an immaculate kitchen. We would definitely go back again!

The only question we raised turned out to be something that the hosts were aware of and trying to sort out. The window in our room was cracked, but due to the Grade Two listing of the building, replacing the glass with approved 'like for like' panes is not a straightforward process. It did not detract from our stay, in any way, and our room was warm and dry. Only mentioning this, to point out that it is not due to negligence. The beautiful condition of the rest of the property speaks for itself.

Great location near to shops:pubs etc but still peaceful Beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. Nice little touches that make your stay special like a night light in the toilet so that you are not disturbed by extractor fan noise in the night when turning the bathroom light on, and top quality tea and biscuits. Scrumptious breakfast with all tastes catered for, friendly hosts - would definitely recommend

Sink outside the bathroom in room 3 make things a bit awkward could do with a towel rail/holder next to the sink but this would not stop us from staying here again though

The hosts.who were very welcoming and helpful. Excellent organisation and splendid breakfast The room was spacious, including bathroom Hosts very helpful regarding parking arrangements and where to go for food Provided discount for entry to Haddon Hall Even though it was July, the heating came on a bit as the weather was very chilly The room was very well lit with a range of lights .

Nothing significant Just the room was a bit cold on arrival and a little chilly sometimes although I was pleased the heating came on and then it was fine

Very helpful owners. Room was enormous and generally comfortable - the secondary glazing meant that there was no noise from the road. Breakfast was good.

Secondary glazing meant that there was no ventilation into the room - which was OK while we were there in a cool late-Spring. The handbasin was outside the toilet/shower ensuite, and sited next to the window and with no ability to hang towels and very limited space for bathroom paraphernalia. Nearby options for eating locally in the evening were limited, although we liked The Fishpond pub.

Paula & Shaun were fantastic hosts with lots of knowledge and it felt more like being at home while there. The breakfast was excellent with great choices and good quality ingredients. Location was excellent and lots of choice for places to eat and the train station was a short distance to walk to. The room had all we needed and a wonderful book with the history on the place and lots of info on places to eat etc. The bed was comfy and the room nice and clean. Can’t wait to visit again! Don’t pass this wonderful place and hosts by!

Had a lovely 2 day stay. Perfect central location for everything. First night we were in the small double room which was comfortable and nicely decorated. Unfortunately we had a minor issue of noise disturbance from the people in the room below us but this was no fault of our hosts who kindly let us change rooms on our second night. Our second night was spent in the absolutely stunning family room which is decorated beautifully. Breakfast was delicious and cooked perfectly and nothing was too much trouble. Our hosts were friendly, accommodating and provided good knowledge of the local area.

Only slightly negative thing i could say is the small double room could do with some extra plug sockets.

Paula and Shaun were fantastic hosts, I had made a mistake when booking but this was sorted for us on our arrival without any fuss. I had messaged Paula so many times before our stay with queries I had and she was always so helpful even when they were away on holiday themselves. In each room there was a tray with tea, coffee and biscuits on it that was refilled the following day. Rooms were very comfortable and lovely and clean. Plenty of hangers to hang clothes though I didn't realise this till after I had folded our clothes away in a cupboard and drawers, that is so me. Breakfast was so yummy, my poached eggs were made to perfection. There was such a variety of cereals and juices, something for everyone. Ashdale Guesthouse is in prime position , on the main street right opposite the river. There are restaurants, pubs , gift shops and arcades practically on the doorstep but it was really quiet. I wished we could have stayed longer. We loved our stay so much we are looking to book again next year, if Paula and Shaun will have us. Book to stay at Ashdale Guesthouse , you won't be disappointed.

We had booked to visit the Illuminations, fireworks and fair along the river, we had looked forward to it for months it being our first time going. Typical the weekend we chose to go it was cancelled because of bad weather and the river was at risk of flooding. This obviously had nothing to do with Ashdale Guesthouse we had a brilliant stay despite this. Fingers crossed next year we'll choose a week where the weather is a little kinder to us. The only negative thing I could say and it was tiny in comparison to our lovely stay were that our pilows were slightly hard, that is probably just our preference and might not bother other visitors. We always tend to take our own pillows wherever we go so as I said I think it is just preference.

Everything about it!!! The Ashdale Guesthouse is cosy, welcoming and very homely. Me and my little boy loved staying here, and we were quite sad to leave! It was clean and such a beautiful place to go back to after a long day out, we loved the option to make a cup of tea and have a biscuit in a beautiful room and kick back and relax in! Perfect for a family stay or with a friend..the food was also exceptional at breakfast with quite a few options to choose from. Paula and Shaun are lovely and are always there to help in any way they can!! We will be back and I will always remember staying there with a smile 😃

Lovely stay in the Ashdale Guesthouse, totally recommended! The house is beautiful and the staff were really friendly and always open to give you nice recommendations of things to do around the area. Our room was comfortable and perfectly clean and we even had fresh milk, ready for a nice cup of tea after a long day of exploring the area. Breakfast was delicious, perfect to start the day. The area where the house is located is really lovely too and quite calm, you can't find many shops but at 5 minutes' driving you are in the town where you can find all you need.

The guesthouse was in a very good location. As soon as you walk out of the front door you are right in the heart of Matlock Bath. The breakfast was cooked beautifully, with a good choice. Our room was very spacious and comfortable.

The parking is a bit tight. It is located on the front of the property, but in fairness the host was more than happy to assist or even park the car for us.
