This was the first stop in our Sri Lankan trip and We weren’t quite ready to brave the hustle bustle of Colombo, Athma house was perfect for that. A small escape where you could admire the city lights over the lake while nestled behind a jungle shield. However central enough for you get out there if you want to. The owner of the property was our highlight. A fabulous well traveled woman with a warm welcoming energy. Her mission to make us feel at home. The interior was a feast for the eyes. Authentic and eccentric. The property was originally built as her home and it still feels that way, lived in and full of soul. Our only regret is we didn’t stay longer. We stayed for one night and would recommend a minimum of two nights.

Nothing not to like

Completely blown away by this amazing place. The house is overlooking the lake with beautiful gardens and a long swimming pool. The architecture and interiors are unlike anything i've seen before. Incredible attention to detail. They have just reopened after some renovations and the rooms were artfully decorated, spacious and had everything i needed. Breakfast was top notch, homemade granola and the house special curries were delicious. Staff and owners were all really helpful and attentive. Will definitely be back. Thank you

The pool could have used some cleaning

Aathma is a feast for the eyes and the heart. The setting is so lovely with lake views and peaceful gardens. As others have said there is always something new, beautiful or quirky to catch your eye. The hotel feels like a treasured family home in which you are an honoured guest. The staff are excellent, so professional and competent but friendly and fun as well. Bohoma stoothi Imran and Geeth for your outstanding care of us. The food was also some of the best we have had in Sri Lanka.

I would change nothing other than staying longer!

I loved staying at this beautiful, proud, authentic and uncompromising Sri Lankan family home come hotel, finished as it was to the highest of standards and so very tastefully decorated, all risen up from the once lakeside bank. I was greeted by my courteous hosts on arrival, respectful of my long journey from the UK, and made to feel welcomed and comfortable right away. My accommodation was as described and expected; it was immaculate (cleaned twice during my stay of three nights) and more than adequate for my needs. The food was delicious; although breakfast was lovely, my evening meals have been the best I have had here so far, being especially well cooked and prepared, further enhancing my first-time-in-Sri Lanka experience. The hosts arranged local tuc tucs and drivers for me, usually at short notice, and we're always keen to help out, particularly with timings on my leaving day. I said that if I came to Sri Lanka again I would stay here again and I meant it. Thank you all for the quality of all of your services and your thoughtfulness throughout my stay.

Amazing hotel! A piece of the jungle in the city center! Monkeys, squirrels, parrots and many more) Everything is so beautiful and authentic. Very welcoming and friendly staff❤️‍🔥 They met and served a welcome drink. We took a room with a jacuzzi, a fabulous room. The room includes slippers, bathrobes, hairdryer, beach towels in a basket and an umbrella. Great pool. Breakfast and dinner were requested in the room. Amazingly delicious breakfast, the hotel cooks delicious food. I’m just in love with this hotel 💔 I will definitely stay there again. Thank you very much to the entire team of this hotel!

Nothing, everything is great

Aathma Colombo House is one of the most unique properties I've stayed in, The atmosphere and decor of the house, done in a maximalist style with influences from around the world, makes you feel like you have stepped out of the city and into a wonderland. Each room is completely different. We stayed in the Rajkumari room, which was perfect for our family with 2 bathrooms. The pool is a nice bonus. The service was excellent and the food was fabulous. We would stay again in a heartbeat.

With young kids, be aware that there are some ledges that take some extra care, and there seems to be a lot of breakable stuff around. This is part of the charm of the house! But we did have to monitor our kids around some areas.

My husband and I spent four nights at Aathma House and absolutely loved it. The entire property is a feast for the eyes. It was our first stop in Sri Lanka and a great place to get over jet lag. My only initial hesitation in booking it was that’s it’s outside the city center. But transportation - tuk-tuks and cars - into town are readily available and very inexpensive. So you can see all the sites and come back to this oasis. Everything about the place is special, including the gracious, kind and very helpful staff.

From the minute we walked in at one in the morning, after a long flight, we were welcomed with open arms. We were greeted with a wet towel and delicious cool fruit juice. We weren't a bother. This set the scene for our whole visit. The room was beautiful and clean, and the bed was so comfortable. The hotel is a work of art. Something beautiful around every corner. The garden so serene. A peaceful haven away from the hustle and bustle of Colombo. Lovely to sit outside to enjoy the lake and pool. The wrap around pool is amazing and clean, so refreshing after long days of exploring. And then the beautiful staff. First class service and care, from Siva, Manujaya, Geeth, Imran, all of the staff, from domestic, kitchen, gardeners and everyone. Dushi, the creator and owner of this home, so delightful and generous. And the food.....so delicious. All of it. And we ate a lot... Only a short and interesting tuktuk ride from central Colombo. One of the best places we have stayed in. Thanks for having us.

Where do I even start, everything about this place was amazing, from the decor to the staff, the secluded yet central location, the super attentive staff and top quality food, everything was faultless. The rooms were huge and decorated to a top standard, we felt like royalty! On arrival we were told to ‘treat this like your home, not like a hotel’ which sums up nicely how the place made us feel.

There is nothing to say here, it was a genuine 10/10
